There is now officially and most definitely a Sunmi-genre of music.

(Hi i'm a native korean so please at least read the previous comments before coming at me with 'i'm a native korean but') A bit of korean trivia here: the song is called '날라리 (nallari),' which means something along the lines of a delinquent, but a bit softer(?), like a punk. It's basically one of the words that adults call teens who don't study and instead, want to become an idol/dance/sing (I know it refers to any child that plays more than studies, usually in a negative way, but this explanation is just the most fitting- stop coming at me if you haven't read my explanation in the comments). Sunmi using this word is ironic, as she's a singer, but also really cool because she uses it in a dual way. She first still uses the original meaning of nalalay, but also when she says 'higher' in the chorus it's also because if you get rid of the 'lay' at the end of nalalay, it becomes 'nala,' which means to fly/take flight. Also the flute-thing in the intro + chorus is called the taepyungso mainly, but may also be called nalalay. Something else that was added through the comments was the fact that the title in english (lalalay) does not match how the korean title is pronounced (lallari). It's apparently to be similar to lala, which just means it's easier and more fun to sing along with :) I just realized it, so I thought it would be cool to share owo

there is a message behind this music video; its the toxicity of people having this stereotypical views of what a woman should be and how they should act. as show in the mannequin there are many "face" with similar haircuts, Sunmi (I'm assuming another woman) confidently struts her own image, which she individualises her self apart from the "similar" looking woman (mannequins). This then cuts to the scene at the "beauty salon" where Sunmi changes her hair look and dress, where the group of girls who are looking at from the window are admiring her bravery to be different. This is concluded where Sunmi is rises higher where she is shown as a new inspiration to girls/women out there and also cuts to a scene where Sunmi removes the wig (which symbolises that she doesn't need to be same as the stereotypical woman look and that she can just strut her own individuality).
