I have been asked about how i fitted a larger blade to my WA6. These machines are supplied with 350mm riving knife and spec is 350mm in the EU , so I wondered what was different on the UK . looks like it just a small rivet ..

I recommend against fitting incorrect blades. Besides being probably illegal, the overhead guard may be too small and the motor drive speed may be incorrect. And sawshafts are designed for certain blade sizes. The shaft on the WA6 is much lighter than on the big F45.

I only check mine because the EU spec with different , not idea why that make UK spec lower , :) good luck with yours can be very handy from time to time have 400mm.. !

if i even go bigger , I would like digital fence and blade hight , without that the WA6 does it all!

Hi, how do you have your saw blade aligned to the sliding table..is it perfectly parallel or toeing in slightly? My slider needs a service and the engineer is pushing me to have the blade toe in to the slider side, but I'm worried this will mean ripping against the fence will be dangerous..

set set mine up my self ,as per W6 set up guide , Check: free cut, rip fence Set the saw blade to maximum cutting height, and cut off a test piece of about 300 x 450 mm (if possible MDF) at the crosscut fence. The sound of the rising teeth must be the same as when cutting free on the left, with the sliding table correctly set. Check: free cut, sliding table Set the saw blade to maximum cutting height, and cut off a short test piece (if possible MDF) at the crosscut fence. The noise difference between the cutting and non-cutting teeth lets you identify whether the sliding table is correctly set. When the rising teeth pass, only a slight fluttering should be heard compared to the noise of the cutting teeth (cutting upward).

Hi All, The restriction on the WA6 to 315mm is because of the riving knife mounted guard, If you would like to upgrade to the larger frame mounted hood you would be able to legally use a 350mm saw blade on this machine . Give us a call if you would like more details on the upgrade.

I would love to have the frame mount blade hood but at £1000 when my saw cost less than 5k. With 3m slider It’s just to expensive

hi mate i had the same thought for my wa6 , i have just got an itech over head saw guard from scot and sargents its the same one as on the itech ps 400 saw i paid 550 with postage for it just need to drill holes and good to go , have a look )

Hello, how are you liking the saw? Looks like a good value except its made in China any issues,quarks, improvements needed? I was a professional woodworker for many years but now just do it in spare time, have been looking at Hammer and really feel i need to be at the Felder 700 but the cost is too high. Did you look at the Felder, how do they compared? Thanks in advanced!!!

No problems at all , I think its a better build that a Felder 700!! better slider as well. and that not just me I have been told my some German dealers ( that didn't sell me the saw) its better than the best felder well at lest the sliding system is when I or if I ever upgrade to CNC saw it will be Altendorf. F45 WA8 or 80 .. but this thing is so well build now sure I even will

Eric the wa6 and wa8 are made in altendorfs own factory in China. The w80 and f45 are made in minden Germany.

Is there any difference in motor or speed between Europe and the UK that means that restriction was to allow for a smaller motor? I assume you are not gonna see increased wear on the motor or bearings with a blade that size?

All the same only difference i can see is the "CE"sticker on the UK version :)

There are several reasons why you should not contravene max blade sizes in a panel saw. You only have to look at the shaft on the WA6 and compare to the F45 that takes bigger blades to see the first issue. Then you have blade speeds, guard protection, riving knife diameters and worse riving knife thicknesses (possibly dangerous) . Not a bright idea.

I’d be carful going over the spec of the European machines, the bearings etc are spec’d for that and you may be adding quite a lot of load as the blade acts as a lever.

Do you have any opinions on the SCM sliding table saws? I’m looking at the SI 315 ES model or the SE 4 E. They are now offering CNC rip fences on these models. Half the cost of what Felder is offering on the K700S. Thank you.

I haven’t looked at SCM maybe some one else will join in I know other have them . I really like the Alterndorf sliders maybe a used Wa8 or F45 in a couple years :)
