In this video, I show my DIY-made home solar power system. 10,000w in backyard solar panels to charge up my 42 kWh lithium battery banks and power my 3,500/7,000w pure sine wave inverter. I utilized that power to offset home electrical loads using a transfer panel. I have doing this for 11+ years. And it all works as designed

Very nice setup. I am at near 2000 watts of panels supplying 90% of my power needs so far. I am expanding my system little by little, but I don't need nearly as much power as you do. Greetings from Jamaica.

Thanks. Been at it for years. Some guys do cars, guns, boating, etc as hobbies -- the solar hobby pays you back when the sun is shining.

It really is a good goal. Or size the solar panel wattage for 2x the max inverter power. This way, can hold max loads + charge at the same time

How much wattage are you using? I have 1k amp hours of 24v, 2200 watts of solar running 2 refrigerators, well pump (split phase) and half of my house on two 2400w inverters for split phase, what I’m getting at is you have tons of solar and battery’s how much power are you using? Just curious, your setup is very nice.

3.5 kw with lots of headroom (surge capability). Split phase 7kw would be better, can't disagree.

Your system is complicated and even though I’ve wired a few houses and garages I wouldn’t know where to start on something like yours. Right now I have a small 3.6kWh 8 panel grid tied system with Enphase micros but in a few years I’m sure I’ll upgrade it for my EV consumption I just got into in late March. I don’t think I’d ever do an off grid system since it’s cheap to be on the grid where I live.

What’s the max PV you cans do on the classics solar charge controller
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma 2 ай бұрын
You can install 1,000,000w of PV and connect it to the Midnite Solar Classic. The max amperage they will put out is around 90 amps for the Classic 150 model. The Classic 250 model is 55 amps max.

I have a question just a curious one... Why not just go with a Delta Pro Ultra with three batteries? It offers everything you mentioned however the form factor is much smaller just may be a corner in your garage.

Not a fan of "all in one" type equipment. The space savings is nice, but not needed. I got my 30 kWh battery bank for free -- won some money one night at the casino and used it to buy it. Tax write off too.

I only have 1 solar panel and a battery, but electricity is cheap for me I only have it as emergency back up. What do you use all that juice for if I may ask? Nice video
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma 2 ай бұрын
I run a window AC unit 24/7 in the summertime, pool pump, etc. Around 30-35 kWh daily. That is "loads"...still need to "charge" batteries at the same time -- so big arrays to do double duty and have reserve. And sunshine isn't always consistent -- bigger arrays provide a cushion for partly cloudy days.

@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma ac and pool pump más use alot , I see why you need that juice. I Barley use on avg 3kw a day 😆. Nice setups will check out some more of your videos, good ideas there . 👍

Roi timeline? With/without battery bank. I think I could build 30kwh bank for about $2,500. How much grid power are u offsetting per year? Thanks for uploading
@ChrisDIYerOklahoma

ROI is important to some people. To me, not so much. Some guys throw $15,000 into a new Harley or $50,000 into their project car/truck, etc. Some guys collect guns, stock ammo. Like fishing? Some guys have sweet fishing boats and gear. My point is this -- home solar power is a hobby like any other guy's hobby. I think all hobbies are great if you enjoy them. If someone thinks dollars and investment strategy...kinda takes the enjoyment and purpose out of it. Solar power is a "payable" hobby...with panels lasting decades (if they don't get damaged or destroyed). Lithium batteries can last 10+ years. If one can offset 30 kWh a day at $0.16 a kWh (avg grid price)...the ROI math works out to 10+ years. But, having lights on at night with the AC running when I need to take a shit is more important achievement

@@ChrisDIYerOklahoma ya this is all gospel, good wisdom, and a valuable perspective most people go their entire life without thinking this way. for me when i do the math, (since i have a lot of student debt getting BA->BS->pharmd->MD) i have to make the dollars add up. i think all DIY i could size a system that gives me an ROI of around 3-5 years, something like 20kw of solar using used/blemished 2nd hand panels, and building my own batteries and hopefully getting lucky on no name inverters lasting. My 2013 chevy volt has 130k miles on it and gets more range on its electric battery than it did brand new. if you take care of ur batteries, they will legit last 30-40 years of +80% state of charge. mind you the volt has 4.2v NMC old school LG pouch cells with a crazy amount of cooling and compression. no doubt LiFePO4 can do double the durability of these old cells. lot of people with volts who took care of them are getting into the 500k+ mile range now with zero degradation. side note, I added 200w of solar to my chevy volts roof and it paid for itself in gas savings in 3 months lol.
