Ready to get natural long hair? Your IRL Rapunzel is here to help you on your journey to long hair with some long hair care and hair growth tips. Here's what I do to keep my hair growing and prevent it from breaking. So many of you kept asking me for hair tips -- probably because of my long blonde hair -- so I hope this is helpful for you!
Products I used or mentioned in this video:

How long is your hair? 😁 Hope these long hair tips help you! These are just what work for me and my hair. Some of these will be different for people with very different types of hair - like extremely curly hair you may not ever even use a brush, but hopefully you can find something in here that you can use in your long hair journey no matter what type of hair you have. 💜

Na Makeup, I did that too, and the reason I did it was because I wanted to express how I was feeling on the inside through my outside looks. At that time in my life I couldnt talk to anyone about the way I was being treated and controlled by another person..I finally left this person that made me hate my life and am doing and looking 100% better. Wishing you the same!

My top tips for long hair (mine is tail-bone length, and natural grey): 1. Always dry-detangle your hair, with your fingers. Even a wide comb can cause breakage. Your fingers can feel the smallest tangle and tease it apart without breaking. Keeping your hair braided etc. (see below) will also prevent excess tangling. 2. Boar bristle brushing. This is the best dry-shampoo ever! These gentle natural bristles distribute the natural oils from root to tip, and remove dirt and lint. I brush 100 times every night, and 50-75 times in the morning. It feels absolutely fabulous - very relaxing and soothing. I clean any fallen hair out the brush with a comb (no breakage these days) and run the tail of the comb through the roots of the bristles to remove any lint. I wash the brush gently in warm water with washing soda crystals dissolved in it, and then rinse with clean cold water, keeping the back and handle of the brush dry if possible. The brush is a beautiful antique one which belonged to my great-grandmother, but you can buy boar bristle brushes on Amazon. Do not get one with plastic bristles mixed in. 3. Do not wear your hair loose, unless for a special occasion. It is much more vulnerable to damage. If possible use protective styles such as loose twisted buns secured with hairpins, avoiding hair elastics unless they are soft and removing these by untwisting them and not just pulling them off, and milkmaid braids. I wear my hair mostly in a single braid which isn't 100 percent protective but I don't always want to put it up. 4. Sleep caps. I have made several from old soft white cotton T-shirts. I found a pattern online. I pin my braid in a circle on the back of my head and put the cap on. This stops any rubbing and protects my hair at night. Very comfortable too. Some people use silk caps or a silk scarf. I have tried a silk scarf but it always comes off during the night. I would never sleep with my hair loose. 5. I agree about less frequent washing. I wash my hair once a month. Before I started a specific long hair care regimen I was washing once a week. I have tried rassoul clay washes but this didn't work too well for me so I now make a DIY very gentle shampoo from filtered water, pure Castille soap and a little jojoba oil, and a few drops of rosemary and clove essential oils (these herbs are very beneficial for hair health and growth). I do not use a conditioner. A final gentle diluted apple cider vinegar rinse with cold water can also remove any remaining excess oil from the hair. Then wrap in an absorbent towel to remove excess moisture, and let dry absolutely naturally. Do not attempt to detangle until completely dry. 6. I use a hair growth oil once a week - recipe from Curly Proverbz whom you can find on KZfaq. My hair is straight and fine and if I use as much oil as some people recommend, I find my hair is too oily. I oil the ends once or twice a week, which are always vulnerable to dryness, splitting and damage, with jojoba oil with a few drops of rosemary oil mixed in. The boar bristle brushing distributes these oils through the hair. They also smell wonderful! 7. I make an infusion with boiling water, cloves and rosemary which I steep for 24 hours and then strain and bottle. I massage this into my scalp using a soft scalp massager made from silicone, a couple of times a week. This is giving me the herbal benefit without the excess oil. It smells lovely! The scalp massager can be used every day. It stimulates the scalp and encourages growth, and it feels fabulous too. I got mine very cheaply on Ebay. 8. Keep exposure to the sun to a minimum. Protect your hair outside from the elements, both sun and wind. 9. Diet. Indian women eat a lot of fenugreek which is brilliant for hair health and growth. It is one of the ingredients of the hair growth oil mentioned above. I have ground fenugreek in my diet every day, and Vitamin C. Eating as healthy a diet as possible is good, too, of course. I have been whole-food plant-based for several years and have lost exess weight and maintain a healthy weight now, and my chronic health condition is now much improved. I don't go swimming now, but if you do, and swim in a pool with chlorine, I would recommend pinning your hair right up and wearing a cap! That chemical is extremely harsh and I wouldn't let it anywhere near my own hair!! I coloured my hair for many years, and in 2015 I underwent 6 months of chemotherapy following colon cancer, which didn't cause me to lose my hair but it did cause some thinning. I am nearly 70 years of age and my hair is now much thinner than when I was young, but since I started this more gentle and historic long hair care method about 5 months ago, I have noticed a lot of new baby hair growth, and the thin, almost bald patches on my scalp have disappeared. I recommend also visiting the KZfaq channel of Katherine Sewings. She has studied and makes historical clothing and also historic hair care methods. Her long hair is extremely thick and curly so not all her methods suit hair like mine, but I have learnt a huge amount from her. I now no longer use ANY commercial hair care products. They are full of harsh chemicals which are detrimental to your hair and scalp and cause excess drying and damage. Using the boar bristle brush and the products I have mentioned above, monthly washing does not make my hair excessively dirty. It is glossy and much easier to manage than in the past. I trim the ends myself every few months with a good pair of sharp dedicated hair scissors. In previous centuries, women used to grow their hair down to floor length. They had no access to indoor plumbing, and had no specific commercial hair care products. They used very different methods from today. It is a myth that people in the past were all smelly and dirty. There's plenty of research that's been done about this and it's a fasinating trail to follow. I have had very long hair most of my life. I doubt if it will ever again be as thick and luxuriant as it was when I was in my 30s, but at least I am doing my best to care for it now, and to try and improve its quality and thickness. I get a lot of very positive comments from people about my hair so I must be doing something right!!

for people with fine, straight hair: - get a hair cut when you start seeing split ends - try massaging castor oil/coconut oil onto roots and ends every 2-3 days - no heat - natural hair color (no hair dye) - only wash when feels oily/dirty (for me, every 3-4 days) - use Nexxus shampoo & conditioner - brush from ends to roots, not roots to ends (unnecessary stress on roots) - gentle hair ties & hairbrush (scrunchies & Wet brush) - stay hydrated & eat healthy - take biotin supplement daily *so glad everyone likes the tips! thank you for the support! happy hair journey everyone🌈❤️*

Abby Bloomfield thank you! I just chopped off about 5 inches of straight up DEAD ENDS with tons of heat damage and bleach damage from when I put my hair up when re doing my roots I mistakingly didn’t realize each time the long part would be touching the bleach for that whole time and would break off. And I have like cheerleader hair, which basically means I have a good amount of hair not a ton but it’s just really fine and STICK STRAIGHT. I’m going all natural (or box dye black not Snow White anymore even though I really love the Snow White color). And I’m giving two years to a strict castor oil and coconut oil mask not brushing, no heat, no bleach!!! Can’t wait

@@keraleasimpson Do you have a recommendation for a heat protector? I used to have straight hair, but it has gotten wavy/curly more recently. I have no idea what to do with it. I wash my hair every 1/2 days, (if i don't it gets nasty looking). I try keeping the brushing to a minimum, and when i do brush, i use a soft wet brush exclusively. I dont tease it, i don't really tie it up too much, but I'd still like it longer. Right now it's around mid/low back, but I'd like it around waist length. It's very thin and fine, but I've still been able to keep it decently long. Do you have any tips for someone who has a changing hair type, and wants to keep it long?

I really like this list of tips. It's very well compiled. Well done Sarah. And because I loooove writing about hair I'm gonna go a bit more in depth on her tips ^^ (btw I have knee length hair, new milestone for me, wohoo ) 1. brushing from your tips up can be faster, and its definitely less painful and less frustrating. When your brush from the top down you're dragging the knots into oneanother and end up with one large knot. If you work your way from the bottom up you brush out multiple smaller knots which is a lot gentler. Using a good hairbrush is also important. I like using a tangle teezer. Wet brushes are also supposed to be good. Some people opt for a seamless combs instead. It really depends on your hair texture. But brushing from the tips up is something everyone's hair benefits from regardless of hair texture. 2. I don't go to a hairdresser, I have a good pair of scissors and trim my ends myself. That's probably the reason behind my strange fascination with hair dressers and everything they do. I haven't been to one since I was like 6 years old. 3. I sometimes blow dry my bangs if I need them to dry quickly. Whenever my bangs look greasy but I don't want to wash the rest of my hair (or my scalp) I wash literally only the bangs in the sink. In the summer they dry withing 5 minutes or so on their own but In the winter they need a little help. For heartless curls I tried rag-curls a few times. It really liked the result and the process wasn't to bad. 4. Any hairstyle that contains your hair is usually better than leaving it down. The hair rubbing against your clothes and being moved around by the wind or simply because you are moving around is causing damage to the cuticle layer. A ponytail is not the beast for that though. A braid is better and a bun is best. But you always gotta make sure not to pull to tightly. Not pulling your hair straight back, moving around the position of your bun/ponytail and making a low bun/ponytail helps with that. You want to use a hair tie without metal that is made of soft material and has a larger surface area. That way your hair is less likely to wrap itself around the hair tie and there is less pressure on any individual spot of your hair. The hair ties that are made of panty hose material are great. For updos I recommend trying out hairsticks and forks. They are super fun. A great fashion statement and they are generally agreed upon to be gentler than using hair tires. 5. There are loads of things you can do to protect you hair when you go swimming. Braiding it is a very good start that goes a long way. And soaking your hair in regular water is in my experience the second most important thing. When you hair is already full of water it won't want to let go of it which means that it won't exchange the tap water with chlorinated water or salt water. Honestly swimming is my worst hair sin because I literally only wear a braid and soak it in regular water. I go swimming once a week and I just use regular shampoo and a strong conditioner afterwards. Other things one can do are: oiling and / or conditioning your hair before you go swimming, wearing a swim cap (or two). But don't wear latex on your hair directly because it will grab your hair (and oil destroys latex). I've personally just ordered a silicone cap and I hope it will be nice to my hair and head. I get headaches super easily but I only swim for an hour so It will hopefully be fine. 6. You can totally do a scalp only or bangs only hairwash. That way the length and ends of your hair won't get wet as often. That means less drying time and less time in which your hair is in its most fragile state. I like to wash the length of my hair once a week (when I go swimming). I can go 2 weeks but I don't like to go any longer because I get lint in my hair and my hair starts begging me for some moisture. (And as we all know moisture =/= oil. Oil just seals moisture in. Water is moisture) Oh and dry shampoo isn't as effective as doing a scalp wash. I've heard that too much dry shampoo can be damaging for you hair as well. 7. Yes to brushing your hair before you shower. Also make sure you don't cause tangles while your showering. Things like piling your hair on top of you head are a big no. And totally unnecessary too. In fact you don't need to put shampoo on the length and ends of your hair. Shampoo strips moisture from your hair. That is the opposite of what your ends need. On the flip side your scalp doesn't need conditioner because it will get conditioned by your sebum anyway. Some people actually experience hair loss from putting conditioner directly onto their scalp. I don't know why but it sounds scary. When you have wave or curly hair you don't want to brush when your hair is dry. It's easier and less damaging for curly girls to brush their hair only when its wet. 8. Again, doesn't apply to curly girls. But for people with reasonably straight hair it's a good idea to not brush when your hair is wet. If you took care to brush before washing and no not create tangles while washing you won't need to brush your hair while wet anyway. 9. This one depends on the person. Sometimes its a good idea to use a more clarifying shampoo to get rid of product or mineral build up. Conditioners with cones in it, hard water and chlorinated water can be quite hard to get rid of. Usually a shampoo with sulfates is needed. Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to be very good as clarifying build up as well. 10. Teasing hair is so scary to me. I don't think I've ever done that to my hair. An alternative for some hairstyles can be to use a hair rat instead. Either made of some cloth or your own shed hairs it can be shaped how you want and add some volume where you need it. 11. I agree, let conditioner soak. It doesn't have to be overly long. If your conditioner sais to let it soak for 5 minutes you probably won't get any additional benefits if you let is soak longer than 10 minutes. 12. I've decided for my hair that split ends need to go. Additional trims are only important if you want you hair to look a certain way. The individual strands of your hair grow at slightly different speeds so if you don't trim your hemline you end up with "fairy tale ends". Which looks very pretty and is easier to handle when your making an updo. The method she is describing for getting rid of split ends is called Search & Destroy. It's very effective. It takes a while and you need very sharp scissors but it's totally worth it. Some people are of the opinion that split ends clean themselves out of the hair (they will break off) and that is why they don't do anything to get rid of them. 13. I love my silk pillowcase. Some people don't like the slippery feeling of them thought. Satin is a good alternative. Braiding your hair for the night and throwing it up over your pillowcase are really important as well. That way you don't end up lying on top of it even if you move around a lot (like me ^^). 14. Oh my god, driving with the window down is horrible but so easy to avoid. Honestly anything with your hair down is horrible when you're below lets say, tailbone length. It gets in the way all the time. And it sort of reaches out and grabs stuff. My hair likes to catch doorknobs. It's a lot more convenient to just wear a braid. 15. Hair treatments again, depend on the individuals hair. Some peoples hair loves protein for example and some peoples hair can't take it. Some people really like silicone and some people don't. You can also combine stuff. For example using a hair mask as a conditioner and then using oil afterwards to seal in the moisture. 16. Some people use natural dies like henna and indigo to dye their hair for the benefit of making their hair feel healthier. Apparently there are some conditioning properties to them. And it actually makes the individual hair strands thicker because it sort of clings to the cuticle layer. 17. hair vitamins. These only really help if your body is actually deficient in something. A better diet is pretty much the same thing. Your body only uses its resources on your hair if it doesn't have anything better to do with it. So if you are deficient in something it can definitely impact you hair and its not only vitamins that you can be deficient in. If you are lacking in iron for example you body can't produce enough blood and that can cause hair loss as well as a bunch of other things. (A slight anemia of this kind is apparently quite common in women because we loose blood each month) Damn, this comment got long ... oh well I had fun writing it ^^

Tips which helped me when I had long hair: Aloe Vera shampoo speeds hair growth a lot Use conditioner, it helps split ends Air dry your hair I think REALLY hot water when you wash your hair damages it so probably avoid that (I'm not a professional, sorry) Don't use the twisty plastic hair ties, fabric scrunchies are probably the best. Use shampoo which could get out dandruff if you have it, apparently dandruff is bad for your hair 🐰Hope this helped🧸

Hairstylist here!!: wanted to make a comment about the olaplex, its a strictly professional product therefore nearly impossible to get your hands on if you're not licensed! If you are able to get it though as a regular person it is definitely going to be hundreds of dollars and may or may not actually be olaplex! this is also i feel a good time to mention that any professional brand that you buy anywhere other than a salon (for instance target or amazon) is not real, it's a knock off or expired version of said product. That means don't buy your kenra or big sexy hair products from target! but anyways, olaplex is a bond rebuilder. When all the steps are used properly on the hair, olaplex can protect from damage and most importantly help rebuild some of the bonds in the hair that have been broken from damage. This is not to say it will heal split ends, it is impossible to heal split ends or damage of any kind regardless of what any product says, but it will help to rebuild some of the bonds in the hair to bring back some strength. hope this helps!!

@@volkiii1450 I'm a hair dresser. I have never heard of products being sold at stores like target to be expired or fake ... Read the ingredients on the back. Compare products when you're shopping by the ingredients. IF something says "WITH ARGAN OIL" and it's the LAST ingredient on the list? Its the LEAST ingredient and is false advertising. You want a product with natural oils high up on the list. A lot of products will be sulfate or alcohol first thing. Avoid these. Don't overly use protein products, such as pure protein or keratin. It builds up on your hair and can also cause breakage. I think every woman should have two shampoos , two conditioners and one hair mask. Alternate your products.

Love it! I was nodding along with nearly all of these. Only one I had an addendum to was brushing: for those of us with wavy to curly hair, brushing is bad, bad, bad. I only brush my hair right before I wash it to help get out loose hairs. Also, leave in conditioner. I use it right after I wash, then air dry. Then I reapply as needed until the next wash day. Hair, skin, nail vitamins are pretty great. I don't know how much they're helping my hair but my cuticles have improved tremendously. It's amazing!

Tip #14 is so true. I didn’t realize how knotted long hair could get as I am growing mine out and adjusting to the changes. I never put oil in my hair previously and now I absolutely have to as my natural oils do not reach the ends of my hair. But yes, jamming to music while driving with the windows down feels great, but my hair is nearly impossible to untangle afterwards.

After committing to my decision of growing long hair, using macadamia oil on my ends, stop using hair straightener, brushing gently, conditioning, oil masks every 2 weeks etc etc I finally had it! My husband grows super long hair and this is his rules 1. Do not shampoo your own hair unless you have no choice and only use the stuff YOUR stylist say to, basically have the stylist shampoo and condition hair 2. Avoid washing hair as long as possible 3. Comb hair slowly with a detangler comb slowly every single day and keep gently rolled up and don't play it in at all. 4. Again, avoid getting hair wet with water long as possible.

Guys I'm 11 and my hair is as long as under my bottom and I don't use conditioner. It is because my hair is already silky which is the point of the conditioner anyway. I advice that you need to know your hair and do what is best for it because people can not tell you for you as you know it best!

I already have long hair (can sit on it and accidentally shut the car door on it long), however, I was reaching a new goal at my thighs. I really appreciate this video as there is a lot of bull shit out there. All my college classmates want me to shave my head. Not going to happen. So during quarantine I want to boost my growth a bit. I’ve never cut my hair in the 20 years I’ve been alive. So I’m excited. Just freshly trimmed my hair too.

I have very long hair up to my bum when down , I can agree so much with number 14 .my mom always puts all of the car windows down but I tell her that she shouldn't . I usually just put it in a braid buy when I dont have a hair tie I can't, then when we get home and she helps me brush it she complains that it's to knotted

Great video! Very informative. I've been growing my hair out for a few months now and my bangs go down almost to my chin and the back is shoulder length. I tried to update my profile pic but it wouldn't let me. Not sure why. Thanks for all the tips have a great day.

Thick hair seems like it’s so difficult to deal with. Thick and/or curly can take hair challenges to new levels. Hopefully these are still helpful for people with more complicated hair types ☺️💜

I'm a 42 year old Caucasian woman who has had grey hair since I was about 18 or 19. I did a lot of coloring throughout my 20s and 30s, but sometime between age 41 and 42, I decided to stop coloring my hair. I don't follow fashion/hair trends, but apparently grey is "in," so yay me, I'm now fashionable. I also switched to a shampoo/conditioner without parabens, sulfates, etc., and I wash it maybe every 2-3 days. I have stopped using a blow dryer except on really cold mornings in the winter, and I've never been much of a curling/flat iron user. My hair is now the longest it has ever been (between shoulder blades) and I am hoping to grow it even longer.

I used to have VERY long hair and I’m only 12, but that’s only because my family is known for their long hair. But I wanted to be “cool” and get highlights when I was like 10 and so my hair did grow but it looked disgusting so I finally got the big chop and now it is up to my shoulders my dad is still very sad about it but now it can grow long and natural :))
