Welcome back folks! The past few weeks I've been tinkering away on this 1971 Volvo 142. It's a 4 speed manual, air conditioned car with 200,000 miles on it! Come along as we dig through it and try to get it functional.

140 are great cars... I owned a 1972, 142E which was the ''hot'' version of the 140 series... It had the B20E engine (high compression Bosch Jetronic fuel injected engine) coupled to the m41 manual short shifter 4 speed overdrive transmission, the grand luxe all leather interior and the british Smith''s gauges in the instrument panel... A beautifull car !!!

Way back in the 1972 I was able to buy a 142E from a small Volvo dealer in Ontario, Canada. We took the time to search Volvo parts numbers and found the Volvo factory rally springs were quite affordable. Best $200.00 I ever spent on options. Forget lowering, go up!

Growing up in the 70s, we had a Volvo 4-door sedan. I cannot remember whether we had a 144 or 244. The grill and headlights looked like this 144, however, the interior looked like a 244. It was the greatest car, until several of the engine mounts failed. Still miss that car!

Happy to see that someone is fixing up these old Volvos .... I have a bit of a project car myself I bought 7 years ago , sigh.... It's a 2000 S80 T6 . I really like the car but sometimes ... I wish I would've picked a different Volvo . I paid $750 for it 7 years ago it sat mostly for about 8 years before I bought it . All it needed at the time to get it moving was a fresh battery and gas it's been driving ever since but the dang thing has so many Gremlins in it and I also know it's not the most popular Volvo makes ... but it's mine and paid . Thank you for sharing these videos because if you can get these old Volvo cars running I can probably keep mine going too.

Enjoyed it, though watching you kept me out of my garage and working on my Amazon. I got new front calipers from Classic Volvo Restoration, which I think is the same as VP Autoparts. That access hole is, I believe, for access to the bottom of the pickup. At least it was on mine. Do yourself a favour and tear the bottom disc off of the screen off of the pickup. It crushes with age and causes fuel starvation issues. A modern fuel filter up front will do more than it can anyhow.
