Sad to see that Vette was abandoned like that. My first Vette was a new '72, white, saddle leather, 4 speed. Wish I still had it.

My best friend lost his life to AIDS. He purchased a brand new"72 Vette when he was discharged from the Navy. His car was auctioned off with his estate, I wish I had bought it. I miss you Gary.

GM buried the solenoid. Doing it from the key has a double purpose of starting the car and getting the glitches out of the wires for the same investment of time.

Ben, that black knob stops the windshield wipers electronically during their excursion so you can replace w/w blades and such.

And on that bracket on each side of the switch is the headlight and wiper door vacuum override push/pull switches.

Ben the motor sounds good. When you take the carburetor off check the bottom surface and see if its flat. Some people over tighten carbs and it bows the carb base between the bolt holes. This creates unstable idle from air leaks around the base and them they try to tighten it down a bit more to close up the leaks making it worse.

I’m so proud you saved this vette if you didn’t then I would. I can promise you that the body mounts are rusted into and the frame where number 3 mounts are rusted into.,at the very least . Fuel line are rotted and the wiring insulation is severally rotted . Pull this body and do this right…. It’s not that hard to do. Hit me up if you need help. I’m in the process of restoring a 1968

I was trying to help you . But you do what you want I’ve restored enough of these older corvettes to know the risk is not worth it. Corvettes and corvette frames are different than any sport/muscle car . Any way do what you want it’s your car. Since you are smarter than me I will unsubscribe now to save you any trouble. Good luck

You can do what you like. I’ve owned over 100 of these cars and have restored many as well. I just think it’s hilarious you can assume this over one video without even any footage of the areas. Just for YOU I plan on making a video showing all these areas just so you can see they are not all rotten like you say. Have a wonderful day

I would replace all the wiring harnesses on this beast. Replaced all of mine in my 79, and it was the best thing I could have done. Was fighting a lot of gremlins in the 40+ year old electrical system.

Doing all the wiring harnesses on my 81 I found under a tree, still gotta gut the interior. It had the hood on it tho, only 68000 on it, but I did get it running. Threw out a bunch of black carbon smoke, still working on it.

That long white wire may be to the map light on the rear view mirror. On my 74 it is gray but in the same location.

If not already mentioned, the white wire you referred to as not knowing where it went could be a courtesy lamp wire

There is a quadrajet shop that can fix almost anything and when you get it back it acts like fuel injection. The only thing is you have to run a fuel regulator between the pump and carb and set ut at 4 psi . Look into it because I sent a 1970 350 carb out and it worked better than any carb I have ever seen.

Hey Ben. Wonderful video's. I have a 1979 corvette t top that I am looking for a set of 4 rally rims to fit. I believe the specs are 15 x 8 with a 3.5 back spacing. Ben, that's the 'Vette that sat in the field with the hood off, right? And that's the engine that was full of water? Or did you swap it out with another salvage engine? I remember you saying the water engine was likely toast but some if us had encouraged you to free the rusted pistons and see if the cylinder walls might be cleaned enough to allow a start attempt since the rest of the engine looked clean. Is that what you did?

This might be a dumb question, but would it be feasible to completely rewire a car like this? ….I mean the wires in this looks almost petrified, I wonder how safe those are in the long run. Plus you had the car apart anyway.

I have a question not a criticism. Why didn't you clean and paint the engine before installing it. A few hours of cosmetic work is rewarding to look at for years. When using a junk yard or used engine I replace the timing set, oil pump and regasket the engine. Keep up the good work and if you have time reply.

If someone dropped off that vehicle in my driveway and said nothing, or didn’t leave a note, I would assume it was there for me to dig a hole in the yard, and bury it. You gave it CPR, heart transplant, and soon to be driven.
