Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this video!! It was breaking my heart to cut back my 2 stem Jade plant to the bark but after seeing your video it encouraged me so much that I cut mine back! It was so encouraging that if you where willing to risk a 20 year old tree I could take a risk with my tiny little plant!☺️

@Utotoshka
@Utotoshka Жыл бұрын
@@EatwellFarm you should prune that one new branch so the plant will not continue to grow it and switch to the other one (it always have two "buds"-sometimes a plant just needs to be "told" what to grow. Wait until new pair of leaves show up and then just pinch it with nails or smth. The plant will grow a new branch. And then, when you will decide its time for an old branch to grow again (better if it will be already little lignified-cut it, leaving 4-5 pair of leaves (depends on where you want new branches to grow). And give the tree some good lighting.

Amazing how different growth gets in different environment. I got a 30 year old Jade plant and it about as thick as this but healthy (partly due to that i was not repotted for a good 15 years or so lol) but also our long dark winters in Sweden. Has to be indoors most of time too. Umm by the way, maybe you should invest in a better knife with longer blade, looks dangerous too 😉😊

In the Video, I cut the root because I want to make it small to fit in the pot and also to remove some dead roots out. But you can cut the root again when the roots bound (run out of space for the roots to go).

@superbonsai7537
@superbonsai7537 Жыл бұрын
You will cut the roots only 2 reasons. first, when you want to keep them small as Bonsai Tree then you trim the roots to make it fit in the small pot. second, when the root bound (run out of space for the roots to go) then you trim them to keep the plant survive and continue to grow. Don't worry about cutting Jade plant roots because they are hard to kill, just keep in mind that after you cut the roots, please wait a couple days or a week before give it watering. Hope this help!

It's always so funny to me how many specialized tools/equipment people use for bonsai. Special soil, special scoops, special mesh for the bottom of pots.....POTS, a special poker to help settle the special rocks/soil. Special knives, clippers, concave cutters...the list goes on! Don't be a sucker! There are so many alternatives to not waste your money. 🤑

Maybe overwatering? Check the soil. Put your finger in the soil to the first knuckle, if you can't because it's too compact, it needs repotting. If your finger comes out feeling damp, don't water it. If it comes out feeling dry, water it

I don't think 🤔 you should have cut that Crassula - Jade Plant so severely perhaps a little less of the large cane's length could have been left intact. The Crassula aka the Jade Plant grows so slowly to have one as large and as old as that one deserves a bit of respect and reverence.
