I had a 2017 F250 King Ranch and I started having Def codes sporadically. The dealership replaced every component in the def system and reflashed the computer. It seemed to work for a while but then started losing cylinders and having other issues with the emissions system. The dealership said I must have been struck by lightning or had some sort of electrical shock but the more I read on forums regarding my trucks symptoms, it has come to my attention that 2017 to 2020 Powerstrokes are having a rise in emissions problems. This was strengthened by having 3 different certified Ford techs in our area all state that emissions problems are on the rise and Ford is deflecting as much as possible to prevent having to issue a recall after having to issue at least 5 recalls already on each of the F-series trucks. Some are easily fixed and others like mine seem to be a bottomless pit of shop time. I decided to trade in on a 2020 Ram 2500 and as a die hard Ford owner, I have to admit that I dont know if I would every go back at this time. Yes the Ford is faster, but I feel more in control of heavy loads with the Ram, the torque and exhaust brake hauling a 20k load is noticeably better regardless of numbers, and the interior is night and day. I have been so impressed, we traded my wifes 2018 F150 ecoboost on another Ram 2500 for her as well. Now we get 21-22 MPG on the highway on 35x12.50R20 Firestone MT2s stock compared to 17 in her half ton and 13 in my King Ranch, and have more luxury from a Laramie than we had in her Platinum or my King Ranch. I still love Ford, and hopefully they will up their overall game, but as of today, there is no comparison in my mind based on the pros and cons of each as to why I would have chosen differently. I was really reluctant to even sit in a Ram, but when I decided after my 3rd Powerstroke to give each of the big 3 a test, there was no looking back.

It is getting really tough to delete these newer trucks anymore these days with EPA that monitors everything now. My cousin lives in Minnesota, has a 2021 Ford 6.7 powerstroke Tremor, just got it (what an amazing truck!!!) He is getting a full delete kit from Canada with egr delete, dpf delete, scr/catalytic delete. A shop in Minnesota can build him a custom 5" straight pipe exhaust. Brother in law just brought a 2020 gmc danali 2500hd duramax down in Florida...he is big gm fan. He wants to fully delete. Minnesota nor Florida has any diesel emissions . But FL has DOT cops and FHP are known to give citations for deleted trucks. MN state patrol can issue big fines too but is not known to do so.. I know deleting these newer trucks gets rid of emissions issues. But it could come at a big cost with EPA. Im just not sure if its worth it these days. The good ol days are long gone with this new micromanage society will live in. And I'm not sure how either of them are going to be able to secure tuning...there is no one making delete tunes any longer for these newer trucks that I am aware of. My cousin has Canada connections for tuning the ford 6.7 but Canada is not allowing usa citizens in right now with this bs covid crap going on

@@resharddurdley6987 You are correct. Now that the election is over...and it appears Biden will be the new president, the EPA will start ramping up to investigate and punish any violators of the emission laws. Moderate to Heavy Towing Frequency and or medium to heavy loads.....purchase an older diesel pickup...2003 - early 2007 Dodge with 5.9L Cummins diesel engine ( IF such truck can be found!!!)......OR purchase a an older Ford Super Duty......1999 through 2007...yes, even a Super Duty with the 6.0L diesel engine.....either equip it with full array of Bullet Proof Diesel products...or ------> A. swap in a 5.9L Cummins diesel engine backed by an Allison 6 speed 1000 automatic transmission ----> contact GEO performance in Livingston Montana.....or -------> B. swap in a 5.9L Cummins diesel engine backed by a 4R100 or 5R110 ----> contact Fummins in Kalispell Montana. @workplaytv I bought a 2020 F-350 RCLB 7.3 this fall and cant be happier. I was so so tempted to buy the diesel, but theres something to be said about the simplicity of a gasser. My trucks rated to Gooseneck pull a max of 20,600lbs. A SRW 350 4 door platinum with a 6 3/4 box like you have is only rated for 21,900 (unless you get a 11,400gvrw package then you get an extra 100 lbs lol) Thats a diffrerence of only 1300lbs...If youre already towing 20k, 1300lbs isnt going to make a hell of a difference. With our new CAT 420D weighing in at 15700lbs, im going to be hard pressed to find a trailer that weights only 5k to tow it. But just about any other peice of equipment we own can be pulled around no problem by the 7.3.

You said it best - they ALL have problems! All you can do is choose a good dealer who can diagnose quickly, and a brand who stands behind their warranty without quibbling. My 2020 F350 PSD king ranch adaptive steering module started having issues after the first 700miles which progressively got worse with miles while on a cross country RV trip. It would throw an adaptive steering fault code then be extremely difficult to steer at low speed, but would only be present at cold start in the am. After warmup and restart, the fault would disappear. By 4000 miles, the fault stayed active full time. At 4500 miles they had to change out the whole steering assembly because it is not serviceable - guessing for safety reasons. But it only took them about 3 hours total to diagnose and replace one they had the replacement part avalable. That won't be cheap to fix if it happens again outside the waranty period! We all have different experiences, but in my view and region I can't find a RAM product and dealer who would stand behind their product even in warranty without some kind of run around. Tried once - never again... As class leading looks and interiors that those things have, its a shame how they treat their customers. That's why it will be a while before you might find one of those in my stable again. Totally different story if you have time and facility to work on those things yourself. Curious to know where the corroded connector was.... External to the DEF tank, or internal adjacent to the DEF pump. If its external, I would like more details on where to look for the corrosion.

I completely agree.....the DRW trucks are more stable towing large loads at 70 mph + on curves down interstate highways. HOWEVER......the DRW trucks are virtually worthless off-road.....especially in mud and snow. That is why many people in several areas of the country...primarily in the Rocky Mountain states.....purchase SRW trucks and add air bags...from Air Lift, Firestone or Hellwig to the rear suspension. I would much rather have slightly less stability but much greater ability and performance in mud and snow off-road.

Also, as to buying a RAM Cummins, my 2015 RAM 2500 has over 575,000 miles on it, and it is still running full emissions, and the major breakdowns on it have all been associated with the engine. Broken valve spring at 270K, water pump at 350K, had to replace all 6 injectors and high pressure pump at 400K, only emissions repair was a recalled SCR Cat and one NOx sensor. If it weren't for the bucks up mopar extended warranty, all those repairs would have been a total disaster. So, they all can have failures.

One thing I don't get is emission like we make the air cleaner to add all this stuff on. But then it adds weight to the truck that makes the engine works a little harder to move it so it uses a little more fuel and also how much unclean stuff do they create to make and deliver these things to places? To me it seems to be pointless other than to make you pay more in fuel and maintenance. They wonder why people do deletes.
@workplaytv3 жыл бұрын
You nailed it buddy
@albertpintor35223 жыл бұрын
Since the 7.3 gas came out now I wouldn't consider the diesel because the emissions is stupid and the 7.3 has a good old cat that most people don't even delete anymore like in the 70s, while I would have to delete the diesel to make it good.
@zilla7.3243 жыл бұрын
@@albertpintor3522 that's why I got the 7.3 its really compact plenty of room to work on it and much less parts compared to a desiel. I'm not disappointed with it. Some people use high flow cats. People still do deletes and I don't blame them even though epa would come knocking on their doors.

I honestly think Ford has had and changed that power stroke how many times in ten years? Iv several HD trucks as I’m in landscape contracting. I’d say run a DuraMax with Allison or a new Ram...... I’m back in a Ram HD and it’s soo much improved! I hope things get better for ya! Love your channel FC

Ford's used 1, in house made, diesel power stroke in the last ten years. Wake up bud, it's 2022. 6.7 came out in 2011.

Unfortunately giving the dealer or service department the code does not help anything because they have to actually have the code on their ids system in order especially to process a warranty claim so it’s best just to not clear the codes take it in and let them deal with it specially if it’s under warranty

It's not an emissions issue, it was a component failure, it happens. It could just as easily been a fuel pump that failed or a water pump, power steering pump, etc. Had you taken the truck to the dealer when the fault first happened, then you wouldn't have had to screw with it so many times. Component failures happen, and not just to the emissions system components. If you don't want a truck with emissions, when they start building full electric trucks get one of them, no emissions on them.

Sorry to hear that I’m not a ford guy but I have a 2000 dodge diesel and an 05 dodge diesel. EPA is making these things as bad to own as gas cars and trucks. It’s all the epa and CARB which is the pusher for the epa

It's all the idiots who make their trucks blow more smoke than a 7.3 Powerstroke or 12v Cummins. Don't get me wrong: I do enjoy the smell of a warm Deere or Cummins engine, but I wish the people modding their trucks would be more mindful of how they effect others.
@wheelinndealin3 жыл бұрын
JohnDeereCat98 I agree, it is fun every once in a while to step on it and see the little smoke but some people go over board and give everyone a bad name
@jackdaniels52053 жыл бұрын
From a ford engine Dyno tech. When there is a code that has to do with your after treatment system you need to get it fixed ASAP. These systems are very clever. It’s not just telling you to go 80 clicks for no reason. It’s most likely not delivering the correct amount of DEF and the speed and load you are running. Which if you keep doing basically a PCM reset you are causing damage to the DPF and SCR. Just have the entire system removed,and the egr cooler as well . Down pipe muffler egr block off plates,and run a Mexico calibration it will run great
@workplaytv3 жыл бұрын
Lol might be in the works.
@jackdaniels52053 жыл бұрын
Honestly its the way to go. At work we literally rip off thoes parts change the injection timing so it does not make black smoke,and from the factory is how they sell it to mexico customers. Fuel millage will improve as well.
