Thanks for your efforts in putting together such a good video. I am considering something like this (same colour) but with a tub and canopy. So just wondering why you opted for this tray instead of a tub? It might be that your set-up (as I don't know what your canopy looks like), affords more access all around the vehicle. Could that be it? Cheers for now & I look forward to following you on KZfaq.
@JCYT
@JCYT 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and the sub! Hope you enjoy the stay. I previously had the "style-side" tub with an ARB canopy in my hilux and i found that access and storage options were quite limited. Your main access is from the rear tail gate and with a lifted 4WD, it's quite difficult to access through the side windows unless you're 6ft+. Maybe check out the video when i picked up my 79 and i explain it a bit more there. The tray alone has 3 compartments for storage (a huge trundle and two undertray boxes). You are totally right about the access - that is my primary reason for choosing a tray and canopy setup. Come back in maybe 6 months for the video "Taking delivery of my Norweld canopy" haha!
@francisamiller7493
@francisamiller7493 2 жыл бұрын
@@JCYT Thanks matey. I am wondering how waterproof your canopy will be. So that'll be interesting for me. If it's waterproof, gives easier access and is relatively secure, then I am onboard with it. I live in the bush on the Coffs Coast, so there's much about the 79 that suits this neck of the woods. Cheers & take care - Blinky

Cool vid mate, May i ask why you opted OME suspension? My 79 is due soon and I'm stuck trying to decide on which brand to go with. Did you look into Lovells or TJM or just preferred ARB? Thanks mate
@JCYT
@JCYT 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You're gonna love it It was between Lovells 4.2 or OME 3.95 for me. I did not consider TJM due to two local TJM dealerships around me closing. I have always been a fan of ARB products and their customer service. My local ARB Thornleigh were great to deal with when i had my Hilux and are very professional. If your 79 is due soon i'd suggest sorting the suspension out ASAP as the BP51s were a 7 month wait last July. All the best with it!

@JCYT
@JCYT Жыл бұрын
Maxxis offered to rebalance them at their branch on the other side of Sydney. It is really far for me to travel so i had to put it off. The balancing issue remains the same (just the rears) and the tyres look good - they are not wearing unevenly. Given i've put on 15k on them im not sure if Maxxis will still honour their offer. It is my fault for not going back.

Hey cool vid. Nice rig. I’m contemplating getting one and have 1 question. With that setup, what is the height of the 79 with the roof rack ? Many thanks and keep up the good work 👍
@JCYT
@JCYT 2 жыл бұрын
They are an amazing vehicle! Definitely an important question for us living in city areas. With the 110mm + spacer Rhino platform, OME 2" lift and 34s i can fit JUST under a 2.2m carpark. The highest part of the car is 2.15m - the solar panel which adds 35mm on top of the rack. Yes those are extremely tight and uncomfortable clearances and I have a photo of the 79 literally centimetres from the carpark ceiling. Not a good feeling but you get used to it haha. Worse case i destroy the solar panel but that's better than damaging the headboard of the tray.

Hi Colin thanks for watching. There were only 2 options at the time of purchase: Hilux or 79 but it was clear with my GVM needs the 79 was the only option. I had also looked into the new dmax prior but definitely dodged a bullet with that one. I am at the moment really appreciating having the cabin and tray completely separate especially as when going away, things can get muddy real quick. LC300 was therefore never a consideration but i would love a chopped 200/300 if the budget allowed one day! Maybe if KZfaq kicks off for me haha!

Morning mate No i haven't swapped out yet. Still the offset correction wheels. My plan is the dwizz track correction next year. I carry only one spare -12 offset as it will work best as a spare all round. Yes it will technically put more stress on the rear drivetrain due to mismatched offset but as a spare it will get you out of trouble.

I'm pretty sure that colour is called "Taliban tan". Your high fuel consumption is most likely due to your tire size. I was running 235/75R16 on my 2014 VDJ79R & usually getting 11.2L/100Km measured on the petrol cost calculator website tool. Then I went to 285/75R16 (4% larger) & it went up to 12.2L/100Km. Your tires are bigger again. Toyota reckons your VDJ should get about 10.4L per 100K's in the standard configuration.

Taliban Tan is definitely the official name haha Yes i'm aware regarding the tyres. I don't believe the DPF helps either! Interesting to note in my Hilux, i gained about 3L/100 when going back to the stock wheels before i sold the vehicle. 10.4?! That's heresy.

Regarding the woeful brakes. I got good results with DBA XP brake pads & I went with the T3 slotted rotors & braided stainless steel brake lines. Even just the XP pads will give better braking results. That dual diaphram brake booster upgrade needs to be engineered approved on your vehicle to be legal otherwise you will void your insurance & roadworthy. Be sure to tell your insurer if you do you own brake repairs/replacements.

Toyota can't supply Australia demand on production on the V8 turbo diesel LC70 & Australia is the only country to receive this 1VD-FTV engine type in the Landcruiser 70 range. It's a four year wait time now with no further orders being taken so potential buyers U.S.A have no hope and as for $35K U.S.D.... As they say in Australia.........You're dreaming.
@Aikynbreusov
@Aikynbreusov 2 жыл бұрын
@@dustyfarmer not dreaming at all..... Toyota can keep the production in Mexico to reduce cost.... $35k to $40k is possible.....Toyota just need to reduce production in Australia since the country has a very small car market......In fact, the car market in Australia is smaller than that of CALIFORNIA'S, which makes Australia NOT a very significant market..... the Australian car market is very small and comparable to markets of 3rd world developing countries. It is so small and unprofitable that many car manufacturers have abandoned the country..... Toyota needs to cease production in Australia and channel its resource to Latin America..... offloading is a new outdoor recreation for so many Americans....and so this simple Toyota Landcruiser 79 series or all 70 series will be a big hit here in the USA market where the market is huge and profitability is very high compared to a miniscule market like that off Australia......it's ok to dream because sometimes dreams do come true..... We dreamed about the return of the Ford Bronco, and now it is here....same thing for the Range Rover Discovery, Toyota Supra, etc...... Businesses go where the money is, and here in CALIFORNIA, there's plenty to be made, and so is the rest of the USA.......until then, it's ok to dream....

@@Aikynbreusov Australian's buy more Toyota Landcruisers than other place in the world, have been for decades, it's Toyota's biggest market for that marque, so there's that. Toyota manufactures Landcruisers in Japan, no-where else, so there's that. I'm sure if Toyota thought there was a market in the U.S.A for a V8 turbo diesel Landcruiser they would service that market, there isn't, so there's that. California with it's C.A.R.B laws, smog testing & strict emissions standards would ban the Landcruiser, especially a V8 tubo diesel like We get in Australia, & one like mine with a straight through 3" stainless exhaust & other secret "mods" so there's that. No-one wants a Mexican built Landcruiser, so there's that. Keep on dreaming.

OMG, you give Toyota a pat on the back for this car and after listening to all the faults in your 79 and the money Toyota charge for these things, it's getting close to a scam. But anyone to there own I guess, it doesn't matter what I think, you love it and that's all that matters. The amount of things you need to change to make these a good 4WD is just crazy. Just one question on your rear wheel off set, most don't recommend going this way, rather spending another 3 or 4k on whole axle replacement, I think this wheel offset idea is by far the cheapest and easiest way to fix this silly design fault, how do you find it.
@JCYT
@JCYT 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I respect your views and I genuinely believe Toyota have done a great job. The way i see it - you spec up ANY australian utility to perform in harsh conditions the cost will be close to the same. But there simply is no rival to the longevity and reliability of the 70 series platform. The cheapest axle replacement i find acceptable to my standard is the DWIZ diff which is probably closer to 10k fitted (axle replacement). To me, that's 10k i don't need to spend and whilst i agree the offset wheels will cause greater stress on the bearings, i'm ok with servicing these bearings earlier than compared to the bearings in an axle replacement. Cheap, and easy to do. The offset correction via wheel offsets for me is purely aesthetic. I don't spend much time in sand. That said i know and have felt the benefit to offset correction especially in sand driving. We were at Moreton Island earlier this year. The 79 went extremely well loaded right up. The sand can get incredibly soft there and i can only imagine what it would have been like for both wheels to create their own tracks given they do not track the same width. Sorry that's as far as i can say regarding this - i haven't driven a stock 79 without offset correction.
@Renegade040
@Renegade040 2 жыл бұрын
@@JCYT thanks for the reply and I agree with doing the wheel offset compared to installing a whole corrected rear axle assembly, the cost is way silly. Others have done the offset route and never had bearing problems, maybe just a furphy to get customers to buy a new rear axle. This is my main gripe with Toyota, in the manufacturing process it wouldn't cost them much at all to correct it then. Also agree, 70 series is very unique and when they are fully modified are a great touring/off road vehicle, but just way out off my price range. The other item I wish Toyota would do, is give there customers an option of a auto transmission and a coil suspension, but I think that's asking for to much.
