Ngl it was pretty reassuring hearing you talk about your productivity struggles. I’m going through something similar with my own project right now, but knowing that I’m not the only one who does that helps a lot. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

I really loved that 100 hour video you made and it was super inspiring and helped put together some pieces in my understanding that I didn't have before to where I actually felt capable of getting started. Seeing you do another video like that but more updated would be very high on my wish list 🙏

Honestly I just miss the old style dani content without barley a lot of jokes in it as well as showing more of the code. Now it feels like he’s trying to market towards younger audiences .

Very few KZfaqrs (and just creators in general) talk about these sort of struggles so honestly, so I feel very lucky to have found your channel (which yes, I found from your 100 hour Godot video that you are now embarresed about lmao). I have actually had a pretty similar experience, cause an old video of mine (about The Beatles) kinda blew up, which made me feel like I had to make Beatles/music ranking content, which, like, yeah... I enjoy that SOMETIMES, but not ALL the time. So then I try to work on it even when I'm not passionate about it, which just makes me work very slow, and makes me feel like "a waste of human breath," as you said (ESPECIALLY when trying to get better/learn other things like music and game making). Anyway, I'm excited to see where your channel goes (cause to be honest, I am emotionally invested in you as a game maker). One thing I am going to try this year (for myself) is splitting up my projects into smaller goals and smaller videos, and seeing if I can pull people in with the TOPIC rather than the SCOPE, if that makes sense. That way, I can learn and make the type of stuff I want to make without worrying about making HUGE clickable videos. Anyway, I know you probably won't see this or have the time to read it (cause I know I'm bad with responding to comments, and my channel is like half your size), but just know I am rooting for you. :)

Came from your 100 Godot and the game u made in a week. As starting to actually be able to pursue my passion your an amazing motivation. Don’t let the insecurities and anxiety of the internet get to you. Remeber people like me that are uneducated and learning take your perspective as a completely different helpful and insightful view. Just like a game it’s about your and a universal passion not trying to please every audience.

The burnt out feeling is very relatable to me. Even though I work full time I still blame myself because I often have plenty of time to at least make progress, and when I can’t even bear to load up Godot I go to bed feeling like I wasted all my time. Glad to hear it’s a normal experience. Looking forward to this new year for myself and for you.

I feel so similar to you about getting attention and comments changes how confident I feel about game dev. For me it’s that feeling like you shouldn’t listen to me or that you (the viewer) are most likely a way better developer. It honestly gives me anxiety some times.

I just came from your 100 hours Godot video, looking to see if I want to give it a try as someone whose never made a game before: the individual statements you made (which may or may not be accurate now) didn't stick so much as your overall positivity towards Godot, your assertion that things can be done even if it's not always straightforward, and above all your glowing praise of the community. Still a good video even with its inaccuracies and outdatedness. It deserves its spot at 1M views!

I know how you feel sometimes I wanna work on my game but just have no energy to do so, and I hate that , I gotta get back in the groove. Also your giraffe game inspired me to make a game about a small giraffe who chucks bombs at people….theres a lot of gore

You shouldn't take advice from strangers on the internet, but a lot of this sounds like stuff I've been through, so I want to mention some things. First of all, game devs absolutely don't crunch for a year plus without burning out. They work through the burnout because they're obligated to by firstly social and partially economic pressures and it destroys their relationships, mental health, sense of self worth / identity, etc. You should not aspire to that. As a lifelong workaholic, there's a difference between going the extra mile because you love what you do and grinding yourself to nothing because you think you're worth less or letting people down if you don't. The game development industry has a ludicrously high turnover and mental health crisis rate for that exact reason. You mentioned your current bout of burnout and how it's hard not to blame yourself when you've got nothing but free time. Take it with a grain of salt, but in my own experience it's way harder to pursue passion projects and way easier to burn out when I'm not employed or in classes, it's a momentum thing. You need the stuff you have to do in order to give value to the time spent on stuff you want to do, or it becomes impossible to get out of bed. In videos where you've talked about your schedule while you were still enrolled you described an absolutely untenable workload that you'd given yourself. Nobody works that hard forever without burning out and anyone who tells you they can/have is full of shit. My two cents, maybe try enrolling in a single class for a semester or something like that. Regardless, love yourself and understand that what you're going through is not unique, every creative feels it at some point, and the image of people who can do it all without sweating is a myth people create to boost their egos. I love what you do and wish you the best. Keep up the good work.
