Most underrated piece of equipment are those earbuds! Saw so many people in your 24 hours at Daytona video with no ear protection while you were using yours. Hearing those engines is great but rattling ear drums sucks.

You’re 100% correct. I went a long time not taking it serious, and my hearing isn’t what it was 5 years ago. I’m taking it serious now for sure.

Awesome video, like to hear just a clear, simple real world workflow. Nothing fancy like the other KZfaqrs usually show with almost never used 'setups'.

If you don’t know, SmallRig makes a mechanical adapter for their cage that allows you to use the actual full FX3 top handle audio unit versus the more clunky handle less version on the A7S3.

I did know that, but to fit this in the compartment under the my scooter seat (what I use at the track), I have to remove it. The hot shoe piece is super quick to take off - so I chose that this go around.

I'm of the same mind. FX30 (crop sensor for conferences) + A7s3. I thought about the FX6 but couldn't justify the extra $ just for internal NDs. Plus carry less with mirrorless, I get it all on a Mbike, inc lights

Did you notice any difference in focus speeds when you switched away from the sony 24-70? Im debating between the A7IV or FX3/A7siii. Just trying to figure out which direction to go for cars, sports, car sports haha and youtube. Your intro edit was great btw.
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 4 ай бұрын
The sigma might be barely slower, but you can adjust settings on the newer cameras to change quicker. So it’s a wash for me versus the Sony 24-70. If you’re video focused, the a7s3 is a great place to start. If you need a hybrid, the a74 👍🏻

Loved this video. When recording with the safety track through your top handle, do you lose stereo audio? If so, would you ever prefer to have stereo instead of the safety track?
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 5 ай бұрын
You lose true stereo sound, yes. But I’m also only using one mic, so having the same track in both ears isn’t super noticeable for what I’m making - 99% of which is played on a phone.

What model Peli do you have here? Recently gone full time shooting motorsport and I need to consolidate bags! 2 Camera bodies and 3-4 lenses (including a large 150-600 sigma lens), as well as all the accessories is feeling like a tall order in one case!

do you find those two nd/pl filters cover you in most cases or do you have stronger filters for bright daylight?
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 4 ай бұрын
They are, mostly because I’m shooting a lot of 60fps. Sometimes at 24fps I have to crank it, so I would probably go up one more ND if that’s what you plan to shoot.

Hey Greg, are you shooting everything cars related with CPL filters on?

Unless it’s night time, I always have a CPL on.
@CeLeRitAs3
@CeLeRitAs3 3 ай бұрын
@@gregsvideogarage are you constantly adjusting it during the shot or just leave it on? I’ve used it primarily for photo and understand how difficult might be to set it up if proximity from an object keeps changing. So I wondered how do you go around this as clearly you are shooting very fast moving objects 😀
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 3 ай бұрын
My proximity to the cars doesn’t really change the cpl, more the relation of my camera angle to the sun. But I usually set it for a stretch that I plan to use in the clip (apex, exit, etc) and leave it alone while panning.

Just curious why you chose a 100-400 over a 70-200mm 2.8?
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 5 ай бұрын
Good question. At some of the tracks we shoot, we are pretty far from the action, so the 400mm is a must. There are times I wish I had a 70-200, but I also don’t want to bring anymore gear than I’m already brining.
@michaelmlyn
@michaelmlyn 5 ай бұрын
@@gregsvideogarage fair Ig it’s all preference for the night portions I could see the benefit of f/2.8 and then getting a tele converter for day time use
@gregsvideogarage
@gregsvideogarage 5 ай бұрын
@@michaelmlyn 2.8 would be a big help at night, for sure. I’m not a fan of the teleconverters personally, so I’d rather have a 4.5 lens at night than a teleconveter during the day.
@michaelmlyn
@michaelmlyn 5 ай бұрын
@@gregsvideogarage that’s a fair point definitely sharper images with the 100-400 then the tele-converted 70-200
