These all look so good. Unfortunately I can't handle even a little heat. I do make things sometimes without the hot, which you might find tasteless and lacking, but it's still yum worthy to me. I admit, I'm a little jealous of heat eaters, sort of like someone who has an allergy and still wants to try it, but the consequences aren't worth it. I can still enjoy it my way though, Marian, and I do! Thanks for sharing all of your culinary delights! 💕💕💕

The trick with eating spicy food is to slowly build up a tolerance! I used to not be able to eat anything spicy, either, but I very gradually started adding more heat to things and now I can handle quite a bit. I still can't eat things quite as spicy as Marian, though!
@kitkyattt
@kitkyattt Жыл бұрын
Seconded, you have to build up your tolerance! I also couldn’t eat spicy food back then but slowly incorporated spice into the foods I make. The key is to make the food so yummy you can’t help but keep eating. 😊 Additionally, there’s different types of spice… for example, I don’t like the taste of sriracha but I do prefer a mala spicy for things like hot pot and mapo tofu! One thing that helps is eating with someone who has a good spice tolerance bc you can have some of their spicy food and still have your own non-spicy food to retreat to if it gets to be too much!

I started eating spicy food at an early age, too long ago for me to remember stages of building tolerance. I have 100% pale pink English heritage. My father was in the British army and we lived in a few exotic places off and on. When I was seven, we lived in Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan, and were provided with a Pakistani cook who cooked toned-down meals for us. I made a mistake when I stole into the kitchen one night and took a teaspoon of what I thought was coco powder from a tin. It was the cooks hottest, pure chilli powder.That was a very painful lesson. But we also had delicious, mild meals that were full of flavour. It's the flavour that matters, not the heat. In my opinion, Thai food can be the hottest on the planet. It's possible that the people in Louisiana who add "hot sauce" to everything could get close. Mild Thai food may not be "authentic", whatever that might mean, but it can still be delicious.

I cook for people who are spice intolerant. I have found a substitute that seems to really work well for providing the flavor without the heat. See if you can't find Thai holy basil. It's really strong stuff, so go easy, but add a pinch. Trust me, it isn't spicy but it adds this "spice-like" taste that I think you might like. It's sort of sharp, like good chili, but it has an actually cooling, minty like touch to it.

We made Hot and Sour Soup for years in our house, and we always used “golden needles” (dried Lilly blossoms, they’re orange)- what happened to those? I never see recipes that call for them. I wonder why is that? Anyone? Your recipe looks delicious Marion!

For the first recipe- instead of peanut butter, can we sub it for tahini? Would that be a better alternative for the original sesame paste? Thanks for another great video!

tahini uses raw, not toasted, sesame seeds. i use peanut butter for creaminess and top with toasted sesame oil at the end (which is easier to find, at least in the US)... combining tahini and toasted sesame oil might get you even more intense flavor. hope that helps.

If you have a lot of time to kill, and are wiling to do the work, you should consider making seitan. It's a classic Chinese dish made with concentrated wheat gluten. Its sort of like vegetarian chicken. It takes some work because you have to wash the starch out of the flour again and again and again. But its amazing. You could of course do tofu, but to shake things up, you know.

First: I love your videos - I'm a total fan. Allow me some constructive-critical feedback: I don't like the 10-minute challenges. Your other videos aren't much longer either, but you're too stressed out for my taste with these time trials and it's not really fun to watch. Everything so hectic and no longer so professional. I miss the rest and harmony. I see no added value in artificial haste.
