Nice video. You are absolutely right, thank you for reminding me to focus on the basics. I often shoot my best photos spontaneously on my "officially planned shoots".... No overthinking, no pressure, just shoot.... I'll try to remember your approach on my next shooting. 👍

Yes - the definition of success is NOT what the societal masses deems it to be (e.g. money, sports cars, houses, fancy job titles, etc) but instead it is simply having the ability and FREEDOM to do what ever you want to do with your very limited time on the planet. I was lucky enough to work this little tidbit out A LONG TIME AGO. Phew.

You're definitely smarter than most, Tim. I'm now working (for money) four days a week. By the end of next year, I'll probably make it three.

I agree Peter , Getting there is a challenge but the journey is the best part , I was feeling crap i was ran over by a drunk driver 2 1/2 years ago I just couldn't get into the bush i sold my 4x4 and just gave up ! anyhow one day i charged the batteries in the trusty 5Dm2 clipped on a lens and walked around my garden ,, the Spark came back , I brought another 4x4 and hit the tracks once or twice a week , have some great shots (And some crap ) but i don't care , Its peaceful and i love it , Im no pro by any degree but i now enjoy my time, not looking back at what i lost ,, Respect to you and SUBBED ! As someone who is just getting started in doing something creative what you spoke about really resonated with me. I'm always catching myself chasing 'the very best' and getting stressed out about not getting the best photo there is, instead of focusing on the creative process itself. It's easy to forget about the fun part when chasing the impossible :)

great episode--and really makes a lot of sense---and lately (funnily enough since covid and whats important) I HAVE REALLY CHANGED ABOUT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK,I am also a musician--i wish i had had this attitude, and dare i say more self confidence 20 years ago, and told my younger self--to stop worrying about others opinion--and create for me first! great stuff...🙏🙏

Great introspection about discovering what can bring us a better quality of happiness and lasting satisfaction in our work and goals. Good reminder that the need to please others doesn't need to be the main focus and that the goal can just be the journey! You are evolving well Peter and thanks for helping us all think about ways to decrease our stress, particularly about our photography!

More wise words peter and they certainly resonate with me and I suspect many others. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “It’s the not the Destination, It’s the journey.” in the book Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman the central character says “The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination.” I think this is an important point. The destination is like a dot at end of the line where as journey is the line itself. As a 'reformed workaholic' and retired and self proclaimed grumpy old man I have long stopped chasing likes and other social media affirmations. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, or perhaps it was Master Oogway on Kung Fu Panda, Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it 'The Present'. Enjoy the moment and be happy. Cheers mate.

You're always at the ready with some valuable profundity, John. "The destination is like a dot at end of the line where as journey is the line itself." This is the one of the best explanations I've ever seen! It illustrates beautifully the fleeting nature of 'arriving'. Thanks, as always, for your insights, mate.

Hi Peter, many points there that resonate with me 😀. Not worrying what others think becomes easier as you age I think. On the point of knowing more or less than others couldn’t agree more and sometimes realising that you know a lot more can come as a shock, I mean doesn’t everyone know this ?

I probably watch more photography videos than I should but I will never not watch yours. Principally because they are much more than gear and technique. Much more. Along with two other favourites, Sean Tucker and “The photographic eye”, they offer a nuanced philosophy of life through the lens of a camera.
