I love 3D at home. It’s better than in theaters. I have about 225 or so...many in steelbook. I think it may make a comeback after they perfect the type without glasses. After Avatar 2 comes out, it may have a chance again. I hope so.

Rather have 3D over 4K any day. As far I understand, new 4K Blu-ray players play backwards compatible on 3D Blu-ray discs.

Vr might help 3d bluray. You can watch 3d movies in a vr theater.

Nice collection! I've gotten into 3D in the last couple years since getting a Playstaion VR, they look great in the headset and it makes it feel like you're sitting in a movie theater in front of a giant screen.

I LOVE 3D at home. I have about 150 3D movies. Favorites: Upside Down, Tron Legacy, Passengers, Mad Max Fury Road. Super great. Men in Black 3, The Great Wall, Toy Stories, Titanic, too.

Very little 3D is released here but most people into the format just buy region free US compatible versions. The big releases still get the 3D treatment overseas. I'm surprised TV mfgrs don't include at least 1 model at the high end for the fans..

3d players are usually online only . I use a Sony 4k/3d region player from Amazon. Own 5 spare 3d players as well.

My 3D tv is now 10 years old (LG 1080p 120 hz). I basically stopped watching 3D movies after a couple years. Recently, with Avatar 2 coming out, I was talking to my grandson about having a 3D TV - he was like "WHAT!?" So we fired up Avatar in 3D, and he was blown away! It really looked good. So I started looking into 3D again and the sad truth is it's pretty much dead. The last 3D tv was made in 2017. I have just started getting into 4K movies, so I have a standard 4K tv now. I have stopped using the 3D tv for daily use, hoping to extend it's life just for the 3D functionality. Some movies look amazing, but some of the 2D to 3D conversions are pretty bad. Maybe I can get Avatar 2 in 3D :)

Just bought a used Sony 3d tv. I always wanted to have one at home.. My 4k tv will have some rest in the coming months...

Unfortunately, people thought it would be 3D on TV shows just because they had bought a 3D TV. sales started to fall sharply even before 4K Bluray arrived. and it seems that the film industry did not want 3D I 4k because they decided that the 4K standard for blu-ray would not support 3D. We have to have something at the cinema that the people can't have at home for them to go and see the movie at the cinema

I love 3d movies in my theater room the only thing 3d dvds lack is dtsx and dolby atmos sound track/surround like the 4k dvd movies have. But if i had to pick 3d vs 4k to view , i would pick 3d. For atmos and dtsx i would go with 4k

The remake of My Bloody Valentine looks freakin awesome on Blu Ray 3D...not the version that comes with the paper glasses!! Being a 3D fan, depending on how the film was originally shot, titles like Avatar takes advantage of being in 3D...where as ones that just had it thrown on top to make a buck don't!! I've known this was a dying format for a while now but I'm still holding on to my collection, my 4K TV is 3D compatible, but is only an 8 bit so I know I'm losing out on quality when watching my 4K titles, but I just can't bring myself to let it go yet!!! I collect 3D BluRays - I buy EVERY movie that comes out in 3D bluray - over 300 so far. One of the most valuable things my parents taught me is to never rent something you can own for less money. I apply this to cars, real-estate, and MOVIES. I only go to movies for social reasons when invited -- over 95% of my movie watching is in my home theater watching a bluray or 4k version of the movie. I do not 'reward' producers of 3D movies by renting the movie -- only by owning the 3D movie. If a 3D movie is produced for theaters only, i will never see it, the producers will never see any of my money if they do not release it in 3D bluray.

The answer to the question it depends where you live if (like me) you live in the UK not so much unless it’s a Sony pictures movie at the moment. The format is also not dead in most European countries. However if you live in the US and Canada absolutely it’s a dead format because I find the North American market personally very anal retentive, as soon as the new and shiny format comes out (4K) the not so successful format (in this case 3D Blu-ray) gets dropped like a bad habit. Evidence for 3D not dying in the UK specifically all Marvel movies from Thor (2011) to Avengers Endgame (2019) all have a 3D release, spider-Man far from home will be confirmed by July 2 (this is when the movie gets its theatrical release in the UK) The last MCU movie that had a 3D release in North America but released under Disney was Dr Strange, you did however receive Spider-Man homecoming but that was released under Sony pictures. Star Wars is another franchise both the last Jedi and solo: a Star Wars story got 3D releases. The last Star Wars released to get a 3D release in North America was Rogue one: a Star Wars story, I’m pretty sure that was a Walmart (or as I know it as US (Sp)Asda) or target exclusive, I can’t remember which. However in the UK we got this is a wide release no store exclusive for us with the 3D release at least Mortal engines got a 3D release and fairly recently pre-orders went back up on Zavvi for the 4K/3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack of Alita: Battle Angel (This gets released on July 22 in the UK). This goes into a much larger conversation, which gets in to bring 3D TVs back I know James Cameron got asked this question at an Australian convention where he spoke about glasses free 3D and how most peoples problem with 3D is lack of native content as The majority is all post conversion and glasses (look at Stereo D’s project list, They do post conversions for Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios amongst others). In terms of TV manufacturers I think they’ve made a mishap in trying to go for the 8K market where they should’ve just bought 3D panels back even if it was just in higher end TVs for example for Sony the X and Z series, In addition to whatever the equivalent for both Samsung and LG are. I mean ultimately the only way you can watch 3D movies right now is if you have PSVR or a projector so TV manufacturers (Sony specially) must see some value in 3D (in terms of the technology) otherwise why do the R&D? i’ve speculated however that at CES 2022 we MIGHT see 3D TVs come back due to the Avatar sequel being released on home video in 2022 (Specifically sometime in March and April respectively for the North American and UK markets if it still comes out on its target release date in theatres). So based on the home video release I will speculate that if we do get new 3D TVs announced at CES we will see them in the summer of 2022 (Best guess based on previous CES’s and product releases). I also know for definite that the movie itself is being filmed in native 3D just like the first one so no post conversion here. All blu-ray players can play 3D movies (including Xbox One/S/X). The last 3D release I bought was Ralph Breaks the internet from Japan as a 4K/3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray combo pack.

I've only ever bought one 3D title in my life. Star Wars episode 7 the force awakens. And only because of the cool blue lightsaber lenticular cover.

3D is not dying! Thanks to 4 AVATAR sequels the 3D format will have another XXL comeback at theaters and home cinemas 110% + no problem to get any 3D BLU-RAY in Germany/Europe unlike USA/Canada market

Surprised you didn’t get any of the Star Wars movies. They look good in 3D...Rogue One, Force Awakens, etc.

3D is not dying, it won't go away completely, but we won't see as much of it. Maybe when Glassesless 3D is available it'll become more popular.

I didn't know Comin' at Ya! (1981) was released in bluray 3D. I think of the 1980s revival that it started only Jaws 3D, Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn, and Amityville 3-D (all 1983) got bluray 3D releases. I believe Friday the 13th Part III: 3D is only available as an anaglyph (red/blue glasses) DVD and bluray, while the other 1982 3D movie Parasite is only 2D DVD. And sadly the only version of Treasure of the Four Crowns (1983) is only out in a pan&scan 2D DVD. Wish they all got a bluray 3D release, I might invest in a setup just to revisit that time period again.

All 3d and 4k fans best buy and others have preorders up for Alita battle angel. It has 4k, 3d and blu ray in a 5 disc (I believe) set. Hdr and dolby vision and atmos on discs. Just a heads up.

3D is way better through VR goggles than a TV. I use SkyBox to watch the movies from my computer. The main problem is getting the movies onto your computer in the first place.

If they can make a good glasses free 3D TV then 3D will probably make a comeback. I see it as an objective improvement.

What's going to happen when all the 3d tvs wear out? I cannot find a replacement for my Playstation 3DTV. My suggestion for a device to save the ability to play 3d by making a universal shutter 3d adapter, sort of like the Sega Master System Segascope 3d. It worked with any TV back in the day. Nowadays, the reason why no device works is because to fail to compensate for the various ping times from 1 ms to 100 ms. The answer is sending an inaudible code signal through the audio in, and reading it back through a TV's audio out/HDMI ARC port. That way you'll always be in sync. And that's all you have to do to make shutter glasses work...get the timing right .

It's not dead just yet Warner brothers still believes in 3d they just recently released Wonder Woman 84 3d DreamWorks still believes in 3d James Cameron still believes in he's the reason why the 3d version of Alita Battle Angel was included with the 4k version worst case scenario there's always imports 3d is still very popular in other countries

I love 3D on my projector but it seems like to get any good 3D movies. I am having to buy them from overseas and importing them. Recently I bought a 4K and 3D combo steel book from Amazon France and I’m about to order Mortal Engines in a similar combo pack.

Isn't the problem also that people no longer buy physical discs but they watch the movie on Netflix Amazon and so on. There was a time when you could stream 3D movie I don't think anyone offers it anymore

I hope it doesn’t die totally, I love 3D movies. Plus you can get them dirt cheap (in the uk at least) at the moment.. HMV has a few and the guy in the store wasn’t sure if they were getting any more after the remaining ones had sold out. Not sure why they don’t make TVs that can play 3d & 4K, surely that would then satisfy both markets….? 👍

The “gimmicky 3d” is the only really cool part of the 3d in my opinion.I think 3d is kind of bleh since there isn’t enough “Comin at ya”.

One will notice Battle Angel Alita does have a USA 3D Blu-ray release ,, Recently many Disney films only have Blu-ray 3D releases in the UK and overseas (Aka Frozen 2 which has very good artistic 3D presentation) , requiring one to import the film if they want the 3D release here.. was very dissapointed when I heard 4k blu-ray which supports HDR was to have no 3D support ..

Adding to my 3D collection lately purchasing used off of Ebay. I have lots of 4k blurays and was surprised to hear you say that the 3d version is on some Lionsgate 4k releases. I have looked and looked and can't find a way to find out what 4k releases have the 3D version and am shocked that it's not documented on the 4k package. Anyone know any way of finding out what 4k releases have the 3d without me going in and loading each and every one of my discs??

I know two reasons why 3d failed:. 1. 2D unfriendly 3d broadcast standards (why Super Bowl 2012 cancelled its 3d presentation) 2. They force you to throw out your perfectly good 2d tv to buy a new 3d tv. When Sega had a technology to add 3d to a 2d TVs (read about Sega Master System Sega Scope 3d, spoiler currently only works on CRT TVs due to modern tvs delaying the picture with processing and the glasses not compensating for that. I think using HDMI ARC and or Toslink to calculate the delay and alter the 3d shutter timing. I think 3d is a more "obvious" improvement than raising the resolution from 1080p to 2160p, or from 24 bit color to 30 bit color. The resolution and color is only noticable in "back to back" comparisons. Unless you're Leela from Futurama, 3d movies do not need a "back to back" to know it's different. Just wondering what streaming options are 3d, especially for a 5 Mb/s inbound connection. Heck it can be 720p x 2 eyes a d br good enough for me. Also how do I add 3d to a CRT TV for Xbox and other modern consoled? I need low ping to perform in the game well. I use a CRT for modern gaming because the input delay is zero

Hi how do you watch imported Blu-ray’s ? I want to get a couple of French released movies and I’m movies. The uk releases of the Star Trek tv shows complete sets are quite cheaper than the us.

I just want to watch the movie in HD quality. I don't need the characters jumping at me. It always seemed to be a temporary gimmick that would lose it's appeal.
