I never really thought of it like that ..but I do sell plants here and there..and it probably does Just cover the cost of owning them. Even though in my brain it's money for new plants😂

I personally think Monstera Adansonii (or Monkey Leaf) is a good investment, because they are super easy to propagate, are beautiful and grow fast with propper care!

Have you tried selling it locally? I haven’t made much with those cuttings. It just ends up sitting around in the house unless I offer it free

I also find them selling quite fast and well. I think especially people who "casually" enjoy plants, love Monstera Adansonii. Of course I do sell them for cheap and they don't bring in the most money/space.

i m building up on the plant sale front but i dont really aim to make it a main business. I think there is a real sweetspot, where just selling a few plants here and there is a no brainer because everyone can do it, its easy to do and not too much hassle. If i can finance plant purchases and electricity for growlights, its allready a big win for me. also im not sure about it but i think if you re really into selling formost, going for usable plants as food might even be a better idea overall because the demand is allways there and you dont really have to gamble so much on market prices dropping and such. if you have a garden or something and you can build yourself a simple little greenhouse...

Absolutely, i think if you're going even smaller than me it's a very very casual and low effort way to support you hobby. I got a few people suggesting crops instead of houseplants now, it also seems to be a good way to make some money on the side. I wish I had garden 😪, not only for selling plants but just to do some gardening on my own 😊.

What do you mean eBay doesn’t take any cuts from your profits? If I sell something it takes about 13%-15% from the total amount of the sale, plus tax and shipping charges, which makes it close to 20%, depending on how much you charge for shipping. Is it different in Germany? How would eBay make a profit if they don’t take a cut?

Hi Marlen, danke erstmal für die lieben Worte, freut mich das dich das Video inspiriert hat 💚 Ja, Ich bin tatsächlich das erste Mal in Hamm mit dabei. Bisher habe ich es noch nie hin geschafft, freu mich aber schon total. In einer Woche ist es schon so weit 😱. Hast du dort einen Stand oder gehst du auch als Besucher hin? Wäre cool wenn wir dort quatschen könnten :)

When do you need to register your business? And how long does it take approximately? Several days, weeks? I have no idea about it, so sorry if it is a stupid question

Hi, I can only tell you how it is in Germany. You have to register a business as soon as you "intend" to make money with your sales. And if you want to do it regularly. It does not matter if the business is profitable or not, just the intent is enough per definition. It is not tied to any monetary value you earn per month. It's basically a big grey area... I hate this wishi washi definitions! -.- The registration itself you can do at your local municipality office. For me it was one paper I had to fill out with info about me and what kind of business I want to open. i.e. Sole Proprietor. Next you have to state what your business offers, i.e. Influencer services and plant sales. I paid 40 € and then it was done. Since I didn't even register a trademark it was really easy. Because of corona I had to wait a few weeks for my approved form but usually you get it the same day if you go in in person. SHORT ANSWER: It take 1 day to register a business. Soon after you'll get mail from the tax office and there you have to also fill out a few things. All in all it's done very fast.

A sole proprietorship there is no need to register, the moment you sell something it’s considered a business.

I have a syngonium albo that has lots of little light brown dots. would you recommend treating it and nearby plants with fungal treatment?

Hi Claire, depends on the size of the dots, if they are tiny like little needle punctures, I think it might be from pests sucking on the leaves. Ooooor recently a friend of mine had it on a plant and it was due to her misting the plants and then where ever the droplets landed she'd get such a small brown spot. Stopped misting and the plant was fine again. If the spots are bigger and also keep spreading in size you might want to spray with fungicide. Hard to tell without pictures though. 😬

@@LeafyLuster thank you! They’re tiny light brown spots. I don’t think it’s from misting, because it was only on one of the plants in the pot (there are four total). I ended up losing one leaf, and then got some fungicide and treated it for about a week. There’s no new spots on any other leaves, and the affected leave it doing better now. There’s also four new growth points! Im watching it closely, but whatever it was I think it’s gone! :)

what do you think about selling (and buying also XD) plants in winter? isn't it a bit stressful for the plant to change the environment and to adapt to the new conditions in winter? I want to buy a new plant now but I am a bit scared that it can not survive in my flat (i do not have growing light and other special conditions) after the transport...

Hi Valentina, I would not risk shipping plants in winter, even if the seller offers heatpacks the chance of frost damage ist very high (especially if the temperature is below zero) . If you pick up new plants locally, it's fine in my opinion. Hope this helps 😅

id love to sell plants but i just dont see how clones of plants that you can get at the grocery down the street are going to interest anyone. and if im going to buy some rare plant online i feel like potential customers would just also go and buy that plant online. i just made about 10 wandering jew clones but i cant see why anyone woild want them when you can get a much bigger plant at any store for like 5 bucks.

I only sell cutting from plants that I keep in my private collection. You could search for wholesale plants of course, unfortunately I don't have any experience with that.

Can you deduct the cost of electricity from your taxes? Since it's to cost of doing business ;) What is the tax rate that you pay? Will you even pay any taxes at all if you subtract all the costs? That's actually the most interesting part for me :D

Yeah you just proved this is to pay off your hobby and not really counting your labour time because it takes time to communicate, list, ship and pot plants. So it’s not exactly free hrs you would’ve used caring for your plants like you said. I am like you occasionally sell as a private seller and except no intention to go commercial since I feel like as soon as I scale up it’s going to be more admin work and less fun. i do it because I’m passionate I don’t sell it for too much just sharing cuttings for a good price so plant lovers can have some and I also offset my cost for the hobby. I don’t even pot it up I put it in zip locks or plastic bags at least people know what they are getting into. I value my time more than marking it as free for potting cuttings up and wouldn’t let it sit around my house and clog up space. Even though my place is much bigger I just don’t like the look of plant work station of stock plants lying around.
