Skip Venice and add Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Paestum.

Venice is amazing! I would substitute it for Rome, every day of the week. You should go on your next visit. Pompeii was amazing and is a must, but I still preferred the ruins in Turkey.

Today is my last day in Italy before I go home. Such a beautiful place. The large tourist crowds everywhere did get to me a little but I get it. What a wonderful country.

Naples is worth mentioning too. The vibe there is totally different from the other mentioned cities. The atmosphere is a bit more raw but it is a great city to explore with a volcano nextdoor and Pompeii and Herculaneum. Siena is highly recommended to visit ad well.

Have been to all mentioned except Ravenna. Just spent 2 glorious weeks in Puglia region. And while I loved every location I visited and the people were all fabulous, Matera was my absolute favourite. (Basilicata region)

Love your work mate! I’m a long time viewer, but first time commenter😂 I agree with your list, except I’d swap Ravenna for Sorrento as a base to see Napoli, Pompeii, Capri/blue grotto, Amalfi. But I’ve never been to Ravenna so there’s that🤦‍♂️😅

...nice to see you included Ravenna (and Puglia/Matera) too....cos too many foreigners only know Rome, Venice and Florence when referring to Italy....ah and a nice tour of the Dolomiti would be worth a mention.... 😉

I visited Italy in Oct/Nov 2022. What a beautiful country. Started in Rome for a few days. Took a train up to Florence for another few days. From there, took a train to Milan. Then took a train to Venice for a couple of days. Rome offers a trove of historical sites and artifacts. Florence is just a beautiful city. Milan? Meh, I’d skip Milan in the future. Venice? I don’t see why people hate on Venice. It’s a fascinating city. Lots of tourists, sure, but I’d go back to Venice in a heartbeat. Also, during the time I visited, the prices were very reasonable, especially compared to where I live in Southern California. I often ate twelve-inch pizzas for about 8 euros, which, at the time, was equivalent to about $8. Can’t find pizza anywhere in So Cal for that price, even in the suburbs. All of the food I ate was reasonably priced and far less expensive that eating out in So Cal. I hope to have the pleasure of visiting again soon. Beautiful people. Beautiful country. Beautiful culture.

I'll add a sixth place, based on a Washington Post story today: Autogrill service stations. Never been to one but it could be the Buccees of 🇮🇹 for those of us into retail tourism.

I must say, aside from some pretty decent sandwiches and a lot of assorted sweets and travel-related products, there isn't a whole lot to see at Autogrills. I can't really recommend taking the highway specifically to see one. It's a fun stop when you're travelling from one city to another but I don't think they're worth dedicating an entire afternoon or morning.

Great channel, but there is an error in this video - when you mention Florence, a clip of Vatican City is shown. Some of my Italian favourites include Assisi, Bologna, Genoa, Milan, Bay of Naples, and San Gimignano. I would love to visit Sicily and Sardinia.

Venice is over rated. Yeah, if you have never been, it is worth a visit, but not in the height of tourist season. Your suggestion of Bari is a gem. I have not been, but want to go. Bury me in Rome.

Tuscany is indeed a wonderful destination. Might I recommend San Miniato for an afternoon stop next time you visit? It's a lovely little town on top of a hill, and the watchtower's top was open to visit last time I was there. The sight was rather breathtaking.
