My 6 Day Old Baby is Potty TRAINED with Elimination Communication

I know, it's a little hard to believe that my 6 day old baby uses the TOILET to go to the bathroom, not his diaper. It's a lil somethin called elimination communication, or EC for short, and all babies are capable of this instinct-based practice. This infant potty training example is of a "wake-up pee" - he just woke up and was in the car seat. Did you know? The ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) wears off in all mammals when they way wake up. It's what keeps us clean and dry in the night (or our species would never have made it this far - we would have died out long ago from disease!!). So, when your baby wakes up, offer the potty like this, and see what happens! **I do "handle" my baby - this is my 4th - if that freaks you out, I am sorry! But after spending some time in Africa, I have a very careful but very primal way of handling my babies that actually increases their neck and trunk strength just like the babies I observed there. Only handle your own baby at your own risk ;) ** Oh, and I definitely potty my exclusively breastfed (EBF) babies over my sink. First, it's my sink, and second, it washes down nicely, is easy on my back, has a handy mirror over it so he and I can connect, and I can rinse his bottom with lukewarm water when we're finished (and dab him on the towel instead of using a harsh wipe - super-gentle! ;)
Learn how to do elimination communication with your newborn baby at godiaperfree.com/start. Enjoy!

It's healthy to express doubt about all these unconfirmed ways of training newborns to do things before the time nature has allotted for such developments. So you have babies crawling out of their mothers, month old babies 'walking", and now you have a week old child who can go to the bathroom on his own. beware of such miracles. picking up signals to avoid diaper disaster is not the same as having a potty trained child.

It amazes me that this is controversial. To the old folks in diapers- lucky them right!? We adapt/ train ourselves for dogs, should we let a puppy be a puppy? And sure this newborn cannot take themselves to pee or say potty, but she did say he knew to wait to pee after waking- that is wild! Tiny humans are so much more aware and capable than we give them credit. He is wearing a diaper- why not just pee? Why did he chose to wait? I also thought the positioning was weird or that the baby shouldnt be crying, but seeing that light in him at the end.. A stinkin wave and a smile?!! Also, amazing :) good work, mama!

Omg to all the haters. The people who are saying “just let them be a baby” … well my babies would cry for hours in very uncomfortable gas pain regardless of all the gas drops and gripe water and yadda yadda. until I started doing this. I wish I had known before my 3rd baby. Holding them in that specific position releases SO much gas and backed up poop. We do this before a feeding and right before I swaddle him back up, and any other time in between that he fusses. He poops and passes gas EVERY single time. He is 7 days old. EC has been a Godsend for our sleep.

This is how it was done before diapers came into pictures. Countries that don’t have access to diapers still use ec People, marketing has normalized diapers. Yet how long ago were they invented? For evolution of humans diapers are new thing. Babies understand a lot more, and certainly not build to sit in own pee and poop. I started both my babies close to 4 months and results were amazing they both picked up fast to my surprise. I also use potty for newborns and held my babies. My first born is already 4 years old, so no spinal issues or nothing. How to do EC, observe baby how to they act before they eliminate. Do their eye brows get red, do they look away and freeze (like they are in deep thought). Babies pee often in the mornings (15-30 minute intervals) and longer stretches in the evening (40 or so min) Offer EC after every nap Even if diaper is wet after they woken up, still offer EC. Babies can still pee the remainder simply because it is hard to go potty while laying horizontally.

The words "potty training" can really bring on strong feelings of what that constitutes and at what age its possible. For me, it means being in communication with my baby about potty time. I "train" them using sound association which is a cue sound that helps them release into the potty 👍

I did it over plastic hat with my first child. With my second one i was more confident so i did it directly over the toilet. Chinese people have been doing it forever!

Vietnamese too. I saw my Moms and my sisters potty train the kids as soon as they got home after the delivery. They would make the 'sssssss' sound to signal the kid to pee. Also, they would check their eyebrows (turn red) or the boy's winnie). So when they were at home, we didn't use diapers but the cloth wrappers. They only use diapers when they need to go outside. When they turned 1 yrs old they would be able to "tell" us if they wanted to pee (with body language or some kinds of actions or moving to the bathroom). No problems with the bladder at all if you pay attention to the signs when they need to pee and not ask them to pee more than they need.

At what age is it okay to start naked observation? I might be over looking it but I don’t see a agar anywhere in the book.Do I start at day 1? Day 2? How do I account for them being cold?
@AndreaOlson
@AndreaOlson 2 жыл бұрын
You really don't need to start it on the first day, but skin to skin with a newborn is wonderful, so if you feel like it, go for it! Anytime you want to start is great (and it should be repeated every few months too as babies grow and change😄 For warmth, dress baby in a shirt (not longer than waist height, and baby leggings or tall socks, or you can order baby chaps from my website, Tiny Undies!!

Why the sink????????
@AndreaOlson
@AndreaOlson Жыл бұрын
The sink is a super-convenient place to do EC because you can stand with baby well supported on your chest/belly. Plus you and baby can see eachother in the mirror generally which is engaging for baby, and helps you see what is going on 🙌 Plus, EBF poop is completely water-soluble so it can just be washed down the sink with no issues👍

@AndreaOlson
@AndreaOlson 2 жыл бұрын
It can be awkward when they are so young, especially with finding the right angle for little boys! Don't despair mama, EC signals, timing, and everything changes as they grow and develop, its natural💕 I would definitely give it another shot and focus on the other "4-roads to potty time"!😊

It's just it's a lie. It's her trying to guess his signals. Potty training is helping your child recognize the feeling they have to go and actually learning to control it. It's little more than a parlour truck
@JenX_1973
@JenX_1973 Жыл бұрын
Being potty trained is the child going to the bathroom and sitting on the potty. And they tell you when they have to go. Randomly holding them over a sink doesn't make them potty trained. He's 6 days old. They have no clue how to hold it in, and wait till you take them to the sink. Babies this young go to the bathroom whenever it hits them, they can't hold it and wait to get to a sink. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Mothers like this think their babies are potty trained. Babies this young pee a lot during the day and night, so holding them over a sink until they pee doesnt make them potty trained. If he can't poop in the toilet or the sink or wherever, then they are not potty trained. When babies have to go, they go. They're not going to holler at you and say 'Hey mom, I have to pee/poop, take me to the sink!" 🤣🤣🤣
@AndreaOlson
@AndreaOlson Жыл бұрын
You may be surprised to learn that if you're paying attention, even a 6 day old baby does signal to you before they pee!😮 And yes, I realize that a week old baby isn't "potty trained" in the traditional sense of the word. Its just a catchy video title 😀

Im sory its not something i will do. I prefer diaper with quick changes. I know when he is pooping and let him finish and quickly change diaper Reason 1. They pee and poo so many times that i feel holding like that is not good for back as it hurts them at this age. Reason 2 Im from a cold place with no running hot water .So I can quickly get hotwater from flask to clean him while he poops in diaper. He never got diaper rash even once. If i have to let him go in basin thn i have to do it quickly giving me no quick time to fix hot water. Also he pees over 20 times a day....so i wont know all the time that he wants to pee. Thn wetting his pants even 4 to 5 times and cleaning him with water will make him sick and too many clothes to wash too. So I rather continue my diaper method . Which i change every two hours whether soiled or not. Cleaner for us and baby never gets rash
