A FAMILY of wildlife enthusiasts have taken animal conservation into their own hands - by caring for more than 13 lions and cheetahs. Barry Kerr runs the Wildlife Animal Rescue programme in Gauteng, South Africa, assisted by his wife Gretel and daughter, Kristen. The three of them spend their days interacting with animals that have previously been mistreated or injured, including the likes of cheetahs, caracals, hyenas, wildebeest and meerkats. Barry, as the ‘leader of the pride’, is the only person on site who works with the lions due to their size and potential danger - with the largest male, Sam, weighing just under 600lbs. Barry has to be extra careful and considerate when reading Sam’s body language, but most of the time, that doesn’t hamper his objective of making sure his animals are enriched and well looked after.

I agree. Him reading Sammy, and saying "its not a good time" is what seperates good from bad lion owners. If you see your friend or someone looking pissed or unhappy, your not just gonna walk over and start toying with them. I dont mean that in a anthropomorphizing way, just as an example on reading behaviour.

After watching the Tiger King documentary on Netflix, it’s good to see people who run sanctuary’s like this. If anyone seems like they truly care about these beautiful animals, it’s this family. Those are the most humane enclosures I’ve ever seen; especially the amount of land for those cheetahs and lions.

They need to make suits to protect humans that deal with big cats in case of an attack they won’t shred human flesh like butter

No they don't lol anyone who interacts with wild animals should know their body language etc. People make it dangerous.. even wild lions won't randomly attack you if you keep your distance. If you can't tell when an animal you're interacting with is pissed off etc and you shouldn't bother it then you shouldn't have that animal. The problem is people thinking they can push themselves on animals. Some suit wont help anything and that will only make the animals check it out more and want to bite it etc o.e

That’s an amazingly large lion..300 kg is over 650 lbs! In the wild, a lion normally weighs between 400 and 450 lbs. Your lion weighs as much as a Siberian Tiger and more than a Bengal Tiger. Very unusual.

Not really, lions are usually quite bigger in captivity. Because in Africa prey is scarce and heat doesn't allow huge weight.

Aww 🥰 this is my dream! My life would be so fulfilled... I have 2 amazing boys (children) and there my world and they would also love this! I have 5 dogs and there also my little babies but these animals are just so beautiful and unique! We ALL need to do EVERYTHING we can to make sure they stay apart of our world 🌎!!!!! Safe the animals!

Average lions yes but they can get bigger. In the Duba region of Africa lions there average between 550 and 600 pounds with many far exceeding. Reason is the amount of nutrition available, just like Kodiak bears in Kodiak having a crapload of salmon available.

Those are lions...The animals sense the sex of the humans instantly which in lions might trigger on some level hostility towards him for sure, if they dont accepting him as the dominant male up to a point of course there could be a problems.Him backing of from this majestic white lion when he notice his irritative mood shows how good he is in reading those guys.

We really should be thankful for people who do this, others are just killing sleeping lions, leopard, elephant, white bear, etc for trophy. You can see that on change .org there are many petition about stopping trophy hunting and I hope if you read this you can participate in stopping those.

600lbs is unaturaly big for a lion. Its average for a tiger but a large lion is 450lbs.

What are you smoking? Average weight of Siberian tiger is around 400 pounds. Also this lion isn't that big. There was a lion in a Canadian zoo called Rutledge that weighed over 850 pounds.

@@masonhollander5149 what am I smoking? You havent spent any time looking this stuff up. Yea, 400lbs for a siberian tiger if its a female which get much smaller than males. Males average closer to 600lbs and that aside there have been cases of siberian tigers around 1000lbs.

dude they weigh max about 50 to 55 kgs even three of them can't take on a 300 kg lion it's just not about the height Lions are heavier, more agile, razor-sharp claws, canine teeth, powerful jaws, and ultimate stubborn big cats and most importantly they are wild animals build for killing even like a complete clan of hyenas cant take him out that easily

He said almost 300 kg, meaning the lion weighs around 660 lbs--which is not unusual for one that is captive bred. Also, how are YOU gonna tell him what the lion weighs? He is its owner/keeper

Why keep the animals on birth control? Only reason I can come up with is if there is a plan to breed them in the future. Kevin Richardson neuters his animals. Unless they are to be bread later just neuter them... Otherwise good job 🙌🙌🙌

Exactly, been looling for vet who spray dogs through tube-ligation(tube tie) so her reproduction organ stays in but no vet can perform that. I don't know why it should be easy procedure
