Excellent! Thanks for taking your time with your application. It make sense what they are saying: dont ahow any arquitectural drawing, WE WIIL TEACH YOU TO DO THAT. Like in the old movies: forget all you already know, and let the new come take its place.

Hi Alex, I just came across your videos and I found them awesome, incredibly helpful. Next year I will be in my senior year and I am heading to apply to U of T and UBC to Architecture Undergrad's programs both with a scholarship (will spend my next year time doing as much as I could to get accepted). It would be great if you make videos as well as your portfolios, giving some tips (how to start doing portfolios, find inspiration, abilities to start developing... stuff like that), also essays tips... what kind of volunteers are more helpful to impress...

Hey! Im applying to both waterloo and Uoft and this is really really helpful. I was really lost in terms of how to structure my portfolio and this gave me a bunch of inspiration. Thank you for this

Hey Alex, Congrats, loved your work, especially your sketches. Even the early stages of development of your sketches were interesting to look at and analyze. Just wanted to say though, from the perspective of a U.S applicant, I don't think it's 100% true that schools don't want to see any architectural pieces (I don't know about UofT and Waterloo specifically). It ultimately depends on the school's portfolio requirements but generally speaking, they won't restrict nor discourage you from submitting an architecturual piece even if they don't recommend it. I think if an architectural piece is able to express your personality, creativity, and technical skill, then I don't see why someone wouldn't add it to their portfolio. I had my portfolio reviewed by senior archi students and they had only good things to say about my architecture models. That goes to say, I got accepted to several schools in the U.S. But yeah, that's all I wanted to add (in case someone might be discouraged to add their architectural work even though they worked hard on it). Admittedly though, I don't know how it's like in Canada...

Hey, thanks for the through feedback. It is different in Canada compared to USA in terms of undergrad application portfolios in regards to having architecture to present (after high school). I've been told this by undergrad assistants as well as seen it myself. I do agree with you though, if someone worked hard on it and would love to present it, go right ahead!

Hi alex, two questions for you:) 1. Did you do early apply for University of Toronto? If not when did you applied? 2. On the website it says that no description is needed (i.e no explanations for the images), was is different with you last year or was is the same but you still decide to put description?
@al3xxli
@al3xxli 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jess, I applied as early as possible since I wanted to get it done asap. I suppose it was different because we needed to submit a short description for the art pieces.

Hey Alex, thank you for walking us through your portfolio 😭😭 It gave me a better idea of what Uoft is looking for. You said that you’d walk us through your essay for uoft but I haven’t seen any updates on it. Did you share it somewhere else? I would love to read your essay!

Hi! I'm actually in the process of creating an online course (video series) about architecture applications and will be uploading free snippets of the course onto YT mid-November. Essays take up a portion of the course so you can look forward to that :)

Hey Alex, congrats you got accepted to waterloo and u of t!! I was wondering if you used this portfolio to apply to both! Also, can you use the same portfolio for every school you are applying if they require the same kind of pieces? Like painting drawing sculpting etc. I really like your pieces :)
@al3xxli
@al3xxli 2 жыл бұрын
The first four pieces were used in my UofT "portfolio" since Toronto didn't ask me for a full portfolio but rather had me upload individual images to their application portal where I also wrote a brief paragraph description for each. You can definitely use the same portfolio, just tweak it a bit to suit what the uni is looking for (ie, technical skills vs creativity)

@@al3xxli where can I find out what universities look for in terms of portfolio? Thanks for the help!

@@AH-gy2gx Concept and Creativity aka personality is key, however you also need to communicate that with enough technical skill too. The specifics for each university is subject to change each year though

@al3xxli

Averaged around 95%, the cutoff is much lower at around 83% though, so not a huge issue for most applicants

What were your stats? what grades did u averagely get? Also is it true that school don’t like it when u redo a course in summer school to bump up the grades? (Ex 81% mark I go to summer school and get 95%)
@al3xxli
@al3xxli 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, my final grade 11 (early application) average was ~95% and my final grade 12 average was ~92% Please do NOT retake courses, Universities want to see how you do in a course right off the bat, re-taking is frowned upon.
