What my aiming dot looks like on targets! There's so many options for types of aiming reticles, dots, fibers & pins for archery. Each option gives you a different "sight picture" when you are aiming on the target. Some options work better for some people than others. Much of this comes down to personal preference and that will come with trial and error. In this video I show you what my pins look like on the target downrange and how I have settled on a certain size to give me the look that lets my subconscious aiming work the best.

Good information John. With all aspects talked about, seeing and thinking about the process.

Thanks John, the concept of a black dot with another colour (I used orange) was a game changer for me on Fita targets. My bad eyesight now work so well with this, thanks for your advice!

John, this reminds me of our conversation at the top of the lift at Park City for the Nock-on shot at the elk. I hit the 2" sticker you placed on the 99 yard elk, and you asked why I wasn't super excited about it... my reply was, "my .010 pin is bigger than the 6" ten ring at that distance. We both know how lucky it is for someone to hit a 2" circle behind a 6" dot..."

Great content again, and something I will be having a go with in the future. However right now I am going to be starting your School Of Nock for target panic and have watched episode 1. My main struggle is that I ca t even get the dot anywhere in the gold at all (shooting in the UK). Everything freezes low right on the 6/7 line and its driving me insane. Hopefully the season on target panic will help me out.

Have you ever tried using a lens with no dot or pin at all ? ...... I use an 8x lens (30mm scope housing) with no dot or pin and found that for me it helped with reducing target panic, if I have a dot or pin then my mind wants me to keep it perfectly in the middle and freaks out when I can't do it, one day while shooting in the rain I went to wipe the water out of scope lens and the dot came off so I kept shooting for the rest of the day without it and I noticed that I found it a lot easier to just line up the circle of the peep, with the circle of the scope housing, with one of the scoring rings on the target face, basically a circle in a circle in a circle. ..... just curious if anyone else has done this or tried this and also found it to be helpful in reducing their target panic ?

Interesting. So you just center the whole target inside your scope?

Yeah I’ve done this too or used and open circle for an aiming reticle. I think it works better and keeps me from trying to peak behind the pin

Yep, just the same way you keep your peep and scope housing lined up, you just do the same with the inside of your scope housing and the rings on the target face, a circle in a circle in a circle, when all three circles are lined up you're good to go.@@JerseyMiller

@@stevewood1969 what kind of scores have you been able to shoot with this method? Have you adapted it to nfaa field?

@@JerseyMiller I'm an Aussie, we shoot FITA/WA Field over here so not sure how that compares to American Field, but yes it also works for Field. ...... I just typed out a really long response but it disappeared somewhere ? lol

I am used to shooting at a distance of 50 meters and an object with a diameter of 4 centimeters. When, after that, you see a yellow target with a diameter of 16 centimeters, it seems larger and easier to hit, but when you actually shoot it, the results are worse than expected. This is a paradox.

I know you said you like to focus more on the target then the pin. Is this the same in 3d/hunting scenarios? I feel like when I look at the target and not the pin I get some very wild groups even though the shots feel like a good surprise release. I do seem to have more double vision when using this method. When I burn the pin on the target I get better groups. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on site picture on hunting and 3d. Pin vs target as the main focus.
