Cookouts have not been the same since my friends and I got air fryers. They're small enough that we all take them to each other's houses, plug in wherever there's an outlet, and have ourselves a fun cookout where everyone makes something. Let me tell you, when you get 4 air fryers in a house, you can't believe how much great food gets cooked and on a table in just 30 minutes.

YAAAAS! This is why I have 2 good sized airfriers and 1 mini airfryer. If I want to do 4 pieces of chix... it's 25min at 380. I start that in one of the larger airfyers and then 10-20 min before it is done, get my sides going in the other one. The mini is my travel variety, for taking with me and making a quick snack/lunch while on the road, cause I have a solar battery it works off perfectly!. But...i love the idea of potluck with the larger airfryers! Thanks for the idea!!!

I really like your air fryer videos. I'm 76, live alone and stopped cooking a number of favorite foods because I hated using my regular oven. I bought an air fryer a couple of months ago and everything is back to having great food, cooked perfectly in less than half the time. To those people that complain about how hard it is to clean an air fryer, I only say _How often have you cleaned your regular oven_ ??? How about the odor of past cooked food? I will mention another godsend for single and couple food management. Vacuum resealable storage bags. I bought one over a year ago for around $30. I buy bulk food, seal portion sizes in vacuum bags and pull out a meal's worth when I am ready to cook. The vacuum pump is a little hand held, usb rechargeable unit, the bags are washable, last for months and *NO FREEZER BURN* happens. So I buy 2 pounds of bacon, I split into weekly portions, wrap them in press n seal and freeze them in vacuum bags. No freezer burn, and saves me money. About cooking bacon in the AF, no frying odor and NO grease covering the walls and NO SPLATTER! The last thing I'll mention is a real necessity for AF cooking: A meat thermometer. The type with a folding probe attached has an added bonus when used as a substitute toothpick for testing baked goods testing for internal state of dough being cooked thoroughly. I wish the KZfaq AF community would include internal temps for safe "doneness" for foods like chicken and pork.

They are merely tiny convection ovens. Instead of 66 to 76L they are 2.5 to 10L. They have about 50% the power of a full size oven even at thst size. They do not waste as much time and energy when heating up, and do not leave unused energy when cooking finishes, because they have a lot less metal. Traditional ovens were designed for families of 6. Modern households commonly consist of 1 or 2 people or expect great variety in cooking. A 2.5 to 5L oven can do the job.

Another great reason for having an air fryer is the amount of space it takes up. If you live in a tiny apartment or life on the road in an RV or wanting to go camping (that has electricity hook up), then the air fryer is perfect. And you touched on it a little in doing smaller portions, but I live by myself and won’t do a lot of big batch cooking for meal prep, so being able to cook tiny portions for just myself is perfect for the air fryer.

This is such a game changer for me, as I have a disability that makes it so I can't physically interact with it. Air fryers are an absolute game changer for heating and reheating cripy things (also, fries are def the #1 thing that goes into my airfryer). But Ovens do have their place, especially if you like to bake. The more finicky things need that slow, stability of an oven.

I agree. I view seemingly hot trends like instant pots and air fryers (or toaster ovens w/air fryer function) as just another kitchen tool. Mind you, I can see the toaster oven I just bought tonight completely replacing my actual toaster, for the simple fact that I can't cut bagels perfectly in half worth two hoots. So if I use a traditional, cheap toaster to crisp up an unevenly sliced bagel, the one half that's cut too thick is gonna get stuck. I could get a toaster with larger slots, but...I like the idea of toasting a bagel by laying it flat on the small cookie sheet of a toaster oven. This leads to using big bagels as the foundation of...mini-pizzas. I can see, therefore, using the air fryer function on same toaster oven to cook me up a nice portion of homemade fries, without burning myself. That said...there *is* something to be said for the delightful aroma of a biiiig batch of cookies or a biiig roast turkey coming from a big oven. And I like to try to incorporate all my kitchen tools and appliances in my cooking as much as possible. I guess that's kinda how I roll...😅🤷‍♀️

Here's a quick tip on preheating oven if you dont already know, put it on broil first. After a couple of minutes then put it on the temp you want and chances are it is close or already at it. I'm not necessarily a nay-sayer when it comes to air fryers, but I think I prefer them in the form factor of a toaster oven that has a convection setting. It won't be a perfect replacement for every role you mentioned here (especially things like the basket shake) but it affords you the ability to use a 9x13 baking pan or a quarter baking sheet to do more traditional cooking and still without having to heat up your big oven.

You've changed my mind...I was thinking of them as another huge gadget rarely used, but our family has trouble with the deep fried chips and chicken in restaurants, and I'm not going to start deep frying at home because it feels wasteful of oil. But to have homemade tortilla chips and fries for the family would really help since it's way less oil, and it'll stem inflation's tide. Roasting chicken to make bone broth would be easier, too. And pouring off schmaltz is easier with this than a huge roasting pan! I have to admit it's also more logical to use in Texas summers than the oven heating the whole house, too.

Nice to learn how to replace the darn gas oven I have been forced to use the past few years. Thanks for letting me know! Those off-gassing chemicals make me sick. As a former RN with a life-long commitment to preventative health and teaching others health tips, I just wanted to share some health info for those that care. One thing to be aware of when purchasing these, is the coatings used. From google: "Is the coating in an air fryer safe? Unfortunately, many of the best-selling air fryers today have non-stick coatings that may contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. This class of chemicals, known as PFAS, can cause severe health problems." I saw it is best to use stainless steel, ceramic, and other non-toxic lining choices to avoid a dash of toxic chemicals as a "seasoning"! I stopped using my non-stick cookware in the 1990's after learning how the toxic chemicals leach into the food. I was working on reversing abnormal liver function tests to avoid a transplant. Consuming more toxins meant more of a toxic burden for my damaged liver. They have changed the composition of teflon to make it less toxic, but then it is usually another decade or so before they know the harms of the NEW man-made chemical formulas! Best to use the "Precautionary Principle" and wait to see the toxicity that develops over time. So I just purchased a stainless steel one. Thanks for the tips on how to use it when I get it delivered!

My oven conked out a few years ago and I switched to my toaster oven. But then I discovered air fryer heaven! I have one that is mini oven style but it has the rotisserie with a basket attachment and a basket that I can shake and 4 different racks! And other attachments that I can’t think of right now! They all came with the air fried “oven” when I bought it! I can do everything you are showing plus a full rotisserie chicken (my personal favorite) and so much more! Plus I can cook 2 (sometimes 3) different dishes at the same time! Of corse they have to cook at about the same temp but with a little adjustment on cooking times it has been working out great! If I were asked I would say get 1 of the medium size basket style and one oven style with the extras and you will make your family of 4-5 very happy eaters! And healthier too with less oil in their diet! I really like your videos and can’t say thank you enough! I’ve learned a lot from your insights!

Air fryers are total game-changer. It is now almost exactly one year since I bought mine. My brother had one and we used it to reheat food for my niece who we had to send to the annex room because she suddenly tested positive for COVID. I was blown away by how good it was, and bought one the next week. I have only used my 'big oven' about three times in the last year. I actually bought the Instant Pot with the Air Fryer lid - perfect for making stock.

I use a black and decker toaster over which has convection setting basically making it an air fryer and it fits a 1/4 metal sheet pan with rack so I don't even have to flip most things halfway because of the rack, it cooks top and bottom evenly as well as catches any drippings. Only downside is the model I have doesn't have great timer settings, it just counts down from 30 min once it reaches temp so I set a separate timer. I love making chips in there, especially because it's so hard to find chips cooked in avocado oil.

Greetings from New Zealand. This is such a fabulous video, thanks! I bought an air fryer a couple months ago, because it is such a cost saving over the oven (especially for a single person). I didn't realize how versatile it was. Using the air fryer, along with the microwave and the slow cooker, my power bill has dropped substantially (no other changes to power use have made). As an added bonus, the oven makes an excellent extra storage cupboard now.

As a Chef, I love the air fryer. Admittedly at first i was sceptical but went ahead anyway. I got the Cosori 3.75 like the one in your video as I am now on my own I reasoned that would be all that I’d need. I’ve grown to love it from the start and just wish I had bought a double drawer one just for convenience, but I guess I’Il just buy another maybe larger or a double like I wish I had bought in the first place. In these times in the UK when fuel is over the top expensive they still would work out cheaper to run than a conventional sized oven. I love your videos Chef. Many thanks. All the best to you and yours. Rab

As a chef, I think they're absolutely pointless. It's literally just a fan oven, but the compact size and humidity issues inside just mean that it dries things out a lot more (granted, it bakes things in about 75% of the time of a standard sized oven). They have no place in a working kitchen, and any self-respecting chef or even home cook should probably avoid them unless you're really in a rush. I'm guessing you're probably a line or short order chef.

@@glassonion8358 You will never see these in working kitchens, unless it's some Gastro Pub type place, or a Cafe. @@teeaymusik9811 indeed. I also think that having the blast of air coming from above the heating element helps blow most of the spatter back down onto the food. I have only heard of fire risk related to using parchment paper without properly securing it under the food. Eg preheating with parchment in the bottom (it can fly around in the "wind" and come into contact with the element and ignite), or using too much so the parchment comes up the sides of the basket, too close to the element.

The handy accessories are helpful, for taco shells, kabobs, baking cakes and casseroles, etc. Also, I've heard from another KZfaqr that has given a year or two of recipes and has worked with Cossori company also, that there should not be aerosol spray in the basket because it does something to the material in the basket. I spray food while in the bowl and season it.

@tamaratafoya9466 Aerosol spray should never be sprayed on nonstick pans or cookware. Cooking sprays also contain lecithin, which is an emulsifier; dimethyl silicone, which is an anti-foaming agent; and a propellant such as propane or butane. Over time, the lecithin in the nonstick spray will cook onto the surface of your pan, build up, and become nearly impossible to remove.

But my next living space will have a kitchen of its own and it would be pretty cool to replace it with a brand new air fryer. Mine is like ten years old at this point, I still remember totally denouncing air fryers when they first came out I with so mad that it was just a little convection oven. But they really truly are amazing. The first time I used one I was completely converted. And I was so adamantly absolutely intensely against them. Maybe it depends to what extent you're cooking one-off meals? I tried using my roommate's air fryer several times, and it's great if you just want a meal or two out of it for special occasions, but I usually cook 4-6 meals worth at once so an oven tends to work a lot better for my meal prep routines. I've also found the flavor of air fryer foods to be noticeably blander than other oven/fried food, causing me to compensate with sauce/dressing (trading a little oil for a lot of salt). Maybe it's just me, though?

I use it every single day, often 2 or 3 times a day. I almost never use my oven or microwave. In addition to being an airfryer, it's a toaster oven, I can bake, broil and even cook a small rotisserie chicken. It cooks absolutely everything for me except large roasts. I've also never tried steak. Hmmm... While I don't get the "shake" feature of the basket style airfryer, the basket trays give significantly better airflow, so it's not needed as much. Also, I adore the fact that I have now consolidated 2 appliances into one!

We don’t get Cosori air fryers in NZ, so after much research I purchased an Instant Pot Vortex air fryer. Since it has two shelves, it’s great to do fries on one shelf and chicken strips or wings on the other, and swap the trays around for even browning. And I don’t preheat it, so it takes max 10 minutes for smaller items. It also makes great cheese toasties, fruit crumble and heats up leftover food very well. I’m yet to experiment with baking buns, bread or cake. I know a KZfaq person has baked rum cake and it looked very good. Air fryers are definitely a good investment, especially for one or two people.

#3 Just to expand on this point, I did some very rough estimates and I think I will be able to make back the cost of my Air Fryer in about 19 months in energy savings. Details: Oven: 90cm 920w convection oven. 25 min pre-heat time at 200c. AirFryer: 6.7L 1500w. 2 minute pre-heat time. Cost £58 Air fryer cooking times can range from 50-80% of the oven times in my limited experience. As an example for comparison I will use cooking frozen breaded chicken fillets everyday. Cooking time is 25 vs 15 minutes. Oven: (25+25) /60 * 0.92kw = 0.767kwh * £0.34 = £0.2607 * 365 = £95.14 Oven: (2+17) /60 * 1.5kw = 0.475kwh * £0.34 = £0.1615 * 365 = £58.95 £95.14 - £58.95 = 36.19 £58 / £36.19 * 12 = 19.23 months

I made cupcakes in my air fryer the other day. Silicone molds work really well in there! They never worked for my standard oven

@@bookswithatwist-vanvelzerp9262 yes that should work, i would recommend lining them with actual cupcake liners so you don’t make a mess haha 😂 for me that method worked best

Always hated air-fryers because early on they were advertised as a replacement for an actual fryer, rather than a fast small oven. The more I watch you, the more I am warming up to them

I like to think of it more as a replacement for my microwave, or what we all wish the microwave would be. Since I got my air fryer there's very few things that I would rather do in my microwave than the air fryer.

same here, I hated the idea and thought of it as health extremism. that was until I saw videos of it being used as an oven. now it's my oven for 90% of usage.

I use mine for frozen snacks, like mozzarella sticks, fries, etc. Also the small pack of cinnamon buns and a few cookies from a larger pack. It allows me to limit how much of something I eat so I dont overeat or consume a full snack as a meal.
5 foods I only cook In the air fryer.
