It's like one person reminded that biracial doesn't have one look! Most of us have been programmed to think that biracial automatically mean light skin, light eyes, and loose curls. I was ashamed of myself being from the Caribbean where there are many biracial people, even in my own family, and yet I still had this mindset of what biracial should look like, silly me back in the day.

This is lovely to see. My sister and I are the ONLY non biracial kids in our age group in my family. Translation, this 4c hair and this Brown skin is quite out of place at Christmas parties lol. Biracial and Brown beauty comes in all colors and textures. We are all beauties and part of what makes us so amazing is how unique black beauty is!! I literally just showed my huband your video and we were both like I love her hair!!! Any more natural hair videos because our hair is the same texture. I'd definately follow. You made me miss my twa. Rock that natural and kept being awesome

Keke J Those of who you are saying her hair isn’t 4c need to stop and realize the difference between TEXTURE and CURL PATTERN. You can still have 4c hair and it be a different texture, causing the hair to look different on different people. There are some people with 4a hair that’s silky texture and some people with 4a hair that is kinky. The girl with silky hair will obviously have way more defined curls. I didn’t see any curls or coils in her hair that would make her 4a or 4b??? The hair typing chart has nothing to do with texture and everything to do with curl size. Every girl with 2a-4c hair will not have an identical head of hair. It will look completely different or similar on some people.

I also hope that you don’t concentrate on growth but more so on healthy hair. Healthy is good hair. Properly detangling your hair and knowing your porosity so that you can proceed with learning how to moisturizer your hair is a good start coupled with weekly deep conditioning. Your hair is going to grow but just don’t rush this present experience. I miss my twa. 😞

Her hair is definitely 4c. Not all 4c textures look the same. Nonetheless, you look amazing! IMO I think Camille Rose Naturals has great products for type 4 hair. My favorite is her curl love moisture milk, you should give it a try. Plus if you don’t like a product Target lets you return it with your receipt lol. Anyways always remember that your journey is your journey and It’s all about trial and error. Good luck!

And that's the standard for 4C, the curl pattern EXISTS but it's appearence is so TIGHT as to appear *undistinguishable.* Kia is right. Product makers need to come with a way to SAFELY loosens the pattern *without relaxers and so it doesn't cause that hydral fatigue.* It would encourage more 4Cs to STAY natural if they could SEE their curl pattern like everyone else.
@KiaSafia
@KiaSafia 6 жыл бұрын
Dolores Byrd I’ve seen a lot of 4c women get their hair to show some type of coiling with the max hydration method . I believe the hair just needs to reach that mark of hydration to visibly see the pattern of hair. I have 3c4a and when I deep condition , or clay masks , and use oils and butters to help hydrate my hair my coils show so much better . That’s y I believe KZfaq some is crappy because WE see all of these ppls hair types and we wonder why it doesn’t look the same , and the answer is simple we may have the same hair type but just a different porosity or density making our hair feel different or appear different but we are in the same curl pattern. Like a lot of 4c women I’ve seen so many and their all so different and feels different. And my goodness I never thought 4c would feel soooo soft my grannies hair was exactly that. We are so caught up with hair texture we forget the health of our hair and if we get the health part up then just imagine the appearance of the hair !!

First of all you are absolutely STUNNING. Secondly, I have 4c hair and I love the Shea moisture coconut and hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie and the curling gel soufflé. It leaves my coils defined and so does eco styler gel but I usually experience flaking with the gel. You’ll find out what your hair likes and doesn’t like as you experiment with products. My favorite way to wear my short hair is with the part on the side. That’s definitely my go to!

I absolutely love this! First off your natural hair is beautiful, the short hair looks amazing on you. Secondly, it's nice to finally see someone I can actually relate to on youtube or even just in general. I am also mixed, my mom is white, father is black but I am very fair skinned with extremely kinky, curly hair varying from 3C-4B. I grew up in a small, predominately white city where no one looked like me and hairdressers would turn me away. I went natural maybe 7 or 8 years ago and I turned to youtube for inspiration and help, and although I am well into my hair journey, I look forward to following you through yours and it's nice to see someone I can relate to on many different levels.

I know it may be stupid, but it sucks feeling like no one else is like you. I always felt like i wasnt enough of this or too much of that. Like i should have had another type of hair. I don't really like castor oil (I know scandalous) and I wouldn't encourage you to rinse your hair out daily, dampen it if you're styling but not rinse. A water based leave in conditioner at night, deep condition weekly and be gentle with your hairline and ends. I like Camille Rose Natural fresh curl, Aunt Jackies curl la la, tgin honey deep conditioner and I add hydrolised wheat protein from green beauty once a month (she has a KZfaq channel). For styles i secretly try out stuff I see on Pinterest and for advice I like nappyheadedjojoba, green beauty, naturallyhigh and naturally curly.com- all have KZfaq channels and those girls have long healthy hair. Take your time, be patient and trust your intuition, nothing I do may work for your hair.

Your hair looks great! :-) I'm transitioning too but am scared to do the big chop so instead have been cuting off the relaxed ends slowly, i have about a 9 months to a year left to go :-) We have a similar hair type, so it will be soo interesting to watch you on your journey. On days you don't want to straighten your hair you should try some of the soft and free curl activator moisturizing products as your cream or leave in. I've found although they are designed for s curls, they have such a high humectant ratio that they maintain moisture easily on type 4 hair.... The downside of this is that it is virtually impossible to straighten your hair properly with these products in as the hair is too moisturized. Well done again for doing the big chop, it really suits you!!! ;-) x

@NatelegeMalene

No probs :-) Hope you like it. I've just checked out the ingredients and the first two main ingredients is water and glycerin, that's probably why it's soo mosturizing. It makes sense in a way, as people with s-curls want their hair to always be hydradated, hence the creation of the product ;-) Here's the exact one that I was talking about :-) www.amazon.co.uk/Sof-Free-Vitamin-Panthenol-Activator/dp/B004P8CHM2/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4DZQ9HQS4AYMKPYX2YS3 Looking forward watching your hair Journey, Nat :-)

I love your hair. This will be exciting to see how much your hair has grown next year. Here's a few things I've learn while having kinky coily hair: 1. Don't over use conditioner, it can make hair mushy and could potentially break the hair. I would suggest following the directions on all conditioners. 2. A good Protein deep conditioner (mielle organic) is helpful, after you use it, you will get that "snap back" effect from your coils. 3. The hair will feel dry, but that's normal. Type 4 hair will not feel like type 3 hair. 4. In your journey, if you feel your hair isn't doing what it used to do, then it could be from product build up. Check out Green Beauty's channel for remedys or tips. 5. Single strand knots aka fairy knots may show up, but it comes with having type 4 hair. 6. Professional trims once a year are helpful. 7. Your hair will grow no matter what product you use. As long as you have a healthy diet and being gentle the hair will flourish. 8. Washing and combing in sections will help out when the hair gets longer. 9. Finger combing can be helpful before you go in with a comb. I wouldn't recommend just finger combing. 10. As the hair gets longer, keeping the hair stretched will help retain length. Even though I said this, I think you should do what's works best for your hair ❤️

Beautiful!! 🙌🏾💖you should find out your porosity level (if you haven’t already lol) by doing the hair porosity test. You take a strand of hair and put it in a cup of water. If your hair sinks to the bottom, you have high porosity hair. If your hair stays on top (like mine lol) you have low porosity hair. This can help when buying products for your hair. 😊

When I first big chopped- I did what you did- just cut. And I still had a lot of relaxed ends though. I had to go a barber to get down to the natural part and to even it up. If you decide to go that route- they’ll cut off some more length. But don’t freak out! I promise you it will grow back very quickly!!! Keep us updated! I’m excited for you!

When I big chopped all I did was the Curly Girl/Mahogany Curls method, which was just to apply DivaCurl one condition as a leave in. It’s kinda expensive but it’s THE BEST thing to do for your hair for especially after a big chop. Oh and get yourself a wet brush, it’s the best thing for type 4 hair. Any type of paddle brush or even wide tooth combs will BREAK BREAK BREAK your hair. Good luck girl, you look great already!

You and your hair are gorgeous! ❣😍💗💕💖 As you mentioned, and this happened to me too, after the cut it took me time to learn what my hair was like fully natural and at a shorter length. Like you, I loved my hair after I cut it too, but there was a learning curve. I eventually got my hair cut by a professional and that helped. Then I let it grow out into a style that I liked better. Now l am at a stage where I am completely comfortable with styling my hair. Although I appreciate all types of hair, On me, I like my hair most the way that it grows out of my head. Cheers as you move forward on your natural hair journey! Thanks for sharing your experience with us❣❣❣

Your hair looks beautiful and so fluffy. I love it!😍it takes time to figure out what products your hair will like. It all depends on your porosity and sometimes density of your hair. I’ve learned that throughout my journey.

Also love how you cut it as well. Lots of people just go at it n it comes or uneven n patchy. You def went through very careful sections n made sure it was all uniform! 👍👌 great job love!!

I've tried a lot of different products during my natural journey and found that Hawaiian silky curl activator works best for my 4b/c hair. It moisturizes my hair like you won't believe. If you don't like the regular curl activator, they have the dry look one as well. Good luck with your journey.

I think your idea is great! putting oil on your scalp with a plastic cap at night is known as the greenhouse method. I did that while my hair was really short & I swear it’s the only thing that helped the back of my hair grow!!! I had one little spot that was always short & that did the trick.

I wish that I had the chance to enjoy my hair when I big chopped but as soon as I did cut my hair my mom scolded me and put my hair in braids for a year saying it was a protective style but that really damaged my hair because that's all I did. Now I'm learning to actually take care of my hair in it's natural state. Good luck to you

I just did the big chop to and OH BOY! The first day it looked horrible.... The second day it started to curl here and there... The third day curls former everywhere! I put oil on at night, rinse in the morning and condition it then I use curl cream and gel and finger curl.... Its a learning curve that's for sure... Just bought the Deva Curl No Poo.... Haven't used it yet, but yeah... I'm feeling you... This is not an easy transition but the reward is great if we can get thru it.... Good luck to you....

Your afro is soooo bomb! I love the side part! I have 4b/c hair too, and I find that my hair holds styles without gel. You might find that your texture continues to change/settle in, now that you have cut off the ends, and continue to deep condition, moisturize, and seal your virgin hair. The key to growth for type 4 hair is moisture and low manipulation, since the most damage is mechanical damage done during styling kinky/coily hair. Most type 4s find that they don't need to re-wet their hair every day. A good deep condition, followed by leave-in moisturizers and seal (oil/butter) on wet hair should hold moisture for several days. If you're finding that the moisture won't penetrate, you might be due for a clarifying shampoo. As some have mentioned, it's mostly trial and error, and you just have to listen to your hair.

Back when I big chopped I used Alikay Naturals during my 1st year and it did wonders for my type 4 hair. As it got longer I have had to change my products. I am currently using Shea Moisture products at this stage in my journey as that is what is working best for me now. But look up Alikay Naturals and maybe give it a try. And definitely watch other KZfaqrs on how to style and manage your hair. The best KZfaqrs to follow would be NaturalMe4C and BlaklzBeautyful (start with their earlier videos). These ladies were a game changer for me in my natural hair journey. I do not have 4C hair but more on the 4A/4B side but their tips worked great for my hair. Good Luck on your journey! And Congrats, this is beautiful!!!!!!

Good for you!! I big chopped in June 2017 and never felt betta!!😊 I'd like to recommend getting started on a deep conditioner once a week - I absolutely love the shea moisture manuka honey & mafura oil dc. The Main Choice four leaf clover line is geared toward type 4 hair - these products can be found at SALLY Beauty Supply.👍

im mixed race and i have 4c hair, everyone thinks you have a loose curly texture. it can be so frustrating at times. first of all your totally gorgeous and you look great with a short cut. invest in a steamer and once a week steam with an oil of your choice and your hair will grow like crazy. (i have crochet braids in my profile pic btw)

I got mine from ebay for £45 it called ozone steamer. if i had more space i would probably get the free standing ones they have in salons as they are much bigger than the portable one. to get you hair steamed in a salon its usually £35-40 so it works out cheaper in the end. thank you so much for the compliment, i will be watching your progress :)

Also oil locks in the moisture so you should spray water and use a cream then oil instead of dry but using it on your scalp and massaging it will help stimulate growth, ive been natral for 2 1/2 years

I am from Zimbabwe and have 4c hair and it is exactly like that, it gets kinkier as it gets longer as the natural oil travels a longer distance, and with relaxed hair my hair used to look exactly like that, omg, I hope this isn't rude but your face could pass as a white and so it's like I have to look at your hair to remind myself.. Lol...which I am loving.. It's like two things mixed, it's uncannily awesome, you represent both your parents immensely. Yea no doubt it's 4c, and when I put moisturisers in mine, or leave ins it shows the curl pattern better, yea 4c has a curl pattern too.

I hope your journey goes super well! I’ve been trying to maintain my natural hair since my BC back in 2015, but it’s tough because I still have yet to figure out my pattern and what works for my hair 😓 It’s always so dry and frizzy no matter what! I’m also mixed, but my mom is mixed and my dad is black so my hair is wild with different textures. I suggest testing out DIY oil mixtures for your hair and scalp to help with keeping your hair healthy and moisturized along with deep conditioners and daily scalp massages. Curls Coconut and Blueberry milk has done wonders for my hair so far so you can try that with your LCO or LOC method. Lavender and tea tree oil in a carrier oil of your choice can definitely help too! Good luck!!🍀

Hey girl! Just like you I'm mixed and have 4c hair, also used to wear my hair relaxed for almost 8 years (thanks to Neymar, the soccer player, I'm brazillian by the way), but when I went to college last year I cut it all off, like bald, as a man I felt it was the easiest way to get rid of all that hair, who get time for that tho. It's been 7 months now, we are in the same length and I'm also trying to find the right way to style it, for now finger coils work the best since my hair is reaaally thick and dont need a lot of products, but the length is starting to get in the weird phase. I'm loving to see your journey, I can't imagine how difficult it must feel for a woman to go through hair transition and really hope you find the best version of yourself with your natural hair just like I did! It feels really liberating! Right now I'm waiting for my hair to get longer to start playing more with all the ways to wear it! YOU'RE GOURGEOUS

It looks great, and suits you 100% If you need a good detangling conditioner, the one I love for my 4c hair is Brazilian Keratin Therapy. Its in a brown bottle and is one of few conditioners that literally melts into my hair. Another tip is to keep your hair trimmed. Our ends are always in a state of breaking, and to retain any length whatsoever you have to trim, more so for 4c girls than anyone
