@@VehicularDIY Hey man, I just bought a 135i, I am not mechanically inclined. Nor have the tools. Should I try to find them and do it myself? Or take it to a mechanic? You think I can trust a mechanic with this? What exactly should I ask them and tell them to get it like yours? Thanks!

Your side to side slack in the shifter that you had before you installed that rod comes from worn out bushings. The E9x manuals uses a series of bushings within the gear lever system. There is even a ball-socket bushing at the end of the gear lever stick. By replacing all those bushings you will have an extremely solid shifter with zero slack/play. Will feel just like brand new. I know this because my E90 had the same issue but with far more slack, and once I replaced all those bushings there was virtually zero slack and felt like a whole new car afterwards.

@VehicularDIY

Yeah I didn't want anything too hardcore, I like the stock feeling and throw but I don't like how when you go from 2nd to third you have to be deliberate at times to get it to engage smooth. Now it just slots in and feels more mechanical but just like an enhanced stock setup.

Super helpful- been debating short shifter as had on Miata speed and loved it but think this is a better alternative to tighter up the shift. Appreciate all you share - it’s unique and unexpected, and well done.

I fitted UUC motorwerks DSSR's to my E36's years ago, perfect fit, positive feel, better feel when shifting up or down, takes lots of sway and unwanted movement out of both directions, definitely recommend these 100 percent 👍

Yeah or the latest 8 speed autos are pretty awesome, nearly DCT shifts without any herky jerky resonance in the drivetrain at times. I liked the 6 speed auto in my E90 and really like the 6MT now but the 8 speed auto in the M340i is insanely good.

Cool, thanks. My 128i with the sport pkg is really low to the front bumper lip. Bit of a pain when jacking. I use some low angle plastic wedge ramps up front just so I can get the pump jack under the front jack point. Some scissor lifts would be a nice improvement!

Anyone that did this upgrade notice a difference? Just observing I think that shifter linkage is the same thing the RTD shifter uses.
@daveshiroma
@daveshiroma 3 жыл бұрын
The problem is you’re shifting wrong. The springs will automatically select the gear of you just “angle” towards them. You grab the shifter by the top, not the side. Top of the shifter in the center of your palm, fingers to pull, “heel” of the palm pushes. Down and back, diagonal up, straight back, diagonal up, back slightly to the right. You should be able to shift without looking in one smooth motion. No “gating”. Hope that helps. Try this with the car off and eyes closed.

What about the shifting arm/bracket that the shift lever goes into? There are 3 bushings in total holding that bracket, do you think they could be the cause for the remaining side-to-side play?
@VehicularDIY

Hey brother what is your opinion on having the dynamic autowerk turbos and your stock exhaust? I only ask because I too have an OEM+ setup where I plan to upgrade to stage 2s in the future, but retain the oem exhaust. I don't have primaries but I kept my secondaries and oem muffler and I find it's the best daily sound. Do you think it will cause pre-mature wear on the turbos because of their claimed restriction? Thank you.
