How did I record this?
__________
Please enjoy this video made using my Razer Phone and Nikon Eclipse E200 Student Microscope at 20x, 40x, 100x and 400x (2x, 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives). When the video zooms in (around 40 seconds), the Razer Phone is recording at 2x magnification, I don't know if this is comparable to an image presented at 800x magnification, but it looks great!
Contents of the video
__________
Visible is the nucleus of each epithelial cell as well as bacteria (the numerous and dark blue speckles on many of the epithelial cells). I tried to move the fine focus knob to show details at various depths. Hopefully it inspires you to look at your own cells one day!
Wet mount technique
__________
We learned how to wet mount our cheek (buccal) epithelial cells in BIO173 during the first semester of Biotechnology at Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Now in my second semester, I'm doing it at home.
This is one of the easiest wet mounts to perform, it requires a blank slide, cover slip, water, methylene blue and a toothpick.
Scrape the inside of your cheek gently with the toothpick to gather cells, then swirl the toothpick in a drop of water that has been placed on the blank slide to liberate your cells. Finally, add the methylene blue stain and correctly place a cover slip on top.
You can buy methylene blue on Amazon!
__________
I purchased an AmScope SK-6 Vital Stain Kit (which includes methylene blue) from Amazon: www.amazon.ca/...
