Here I explain how I tried to start my career, the rejections I had to face and eventually finding a graduate entry level job in HR. Hopefully this will give you inspiration when it comes to your own career story. Some of the examples are UK based, but I think these can be used anywhere!

when they say you're not a good fit, it's always about the way you look and talk. Apparently, most companies regret hiring someone they think is a good fit (they may be lacking in the actual areas they NEED to get the role) as they go on to not be very good. Whenever I got this feedback I would remember what the group of people I would have worked with were like and knew it wouldn't work out. Glad with my team now :)

wow what a story, so glad things worked out in the end. I'm lucky because my degree is in engineering, and that industry has a really strong ecosystem of offering paid summer internships to undergraduates so I finished my degree with 6 months experience plus the qualification. If anyone else here is an engineering student truly internships are so important, and if you can do a Year in Industry as well (my uni didn't offer that unfortunately) you're pretty much guaranteed at least an offer from that company ( as long as no disasters occur lol).

I’ve known i wanted to work in HR since i was in year 10 I find is so interesting how similar our experiences are. I have tried to get into the grad schemes and entry level HR roles for a couple of years also with my masters and even CIPD qualifications. Honestly thank you so much for sharing your story. I'm actually in a similar position as you were. I have a masters in HR and hv about 5 years worth of experience in customer service and have been trying to get an entry level job in HR. Its going to two years since I graduated and still nothing. It can be so difficult and upsetting because I have applied for so many jobs and some of them don't even respond after spending hours on the application form and the rest well I get the "unfortunately" I didn't get the job. At this point I'm thinking if I should keep chasing this career path. *Sigh* but then again the pandemic may have contributed as well. I'm trying to see if I can get a volunteery opportunity in any HR department maybe that would help but that too has been a struggle. Please have you got any advice for me?
@VeroniaSpaine
@VeroniaSpaine 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Janet, I completely get it and the pandemic has really hit the job market so it’s very tough at the moment. Have you maybe tried to go through the agency route? Even if it’s an admin assistant it really helped to get my foot in the door! I would try to include my CV on job sites and contact agencies directly if it was me - so that at least they know what you’re looking for. It may take slightly longer as companies are still making redundancies so it may be a while before they start hiring again. I hope that helps but if you have any other questions then just let me know!

I have been struggling to get the right job too and its been 4 years now. the fact that I have degree and progression at work (which I have gained some transferable skills) still rejected. I even applied for entry jobs and all of them were rejected reason was the same I do not fit on role and that some applicants have work experienced related to the role.

Hi Veronia! Please could you help 🙏🏻☺️ I want to start a career in HR and I’m not sure whether I should start with CIPD level 3, or if I have enough experience, go straight into CIPD level 5. I worked as a manager in a shop for 5 years where I managed all stages of employee lifecycle (recruitment, onboarding, retention, development, off-boarding). I managed all data and kept records on HCM system including absences, performance reviews and recorded conversation outcomes. What are your thoughts? Do you think by skipping level 3 I would miss out on a lot of base knowledge?
@VeroniaSpaine
@VeroniaSpaine Жыл бұрын
Hey! So I’m not a massive expert when it comes to CIPD but I would say if I had your experience I would probably go for the level 5 personally! I’ve been told there isn’t too much of a difference between those levels, so if you think you could still do the level 5 successfully then why not!
