Check out my outdoor cherry head enclosure as well as my chameleon enclosure set up in my backyard. I have a small backyard but tried to make it as functional as possible for my pets while still keeping it nice. I have the entire backyard on a automatic misting system as well as an automatic water bowl for the tortoise. Still more modifications to come so stay tuned and subscribe.

Very nice enclosure I really like it, I have two Cherry Tortoise too and I live in South FL too Sunrise exactly. I have a question, As you know here rain a lot and sometimes per days, How do you do to drain the water form the enclosure, Do you have a special drain system or just some holes in the bottom?
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 3 жыл бұрын
@ Fernando Briones thanks! The enclosures have holes in the bottom which allow the water to drain properly through the substrate to avoid the flooding and it has worked great for me.

I like to know how you built the Box. And type of plants inside the tortoise 🐢 space
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 4 жыл бұрын
@ Q tee Harvey, I don’t have the video of this build out process but I do have a video of another tortoise enclosure I built out coming out Thursday with many similar things I used for this one if you would like to see. But basically for this one I made a frame of pressure treated wood, after making the frame I used the plywood to enclose the box in the front, sides and back. I left a gap in the front bottom of the cage, so the plywood does not completely seal the floor, I put river rocks and that creates and easy area for water to drain out. I used clusia, prickly pear cactus, ferns and various grass species. It was all sealed for protection.

Curious to know how you built your tortoise enclosure. Might be looking to get one soon. Are you going to breed them when they get of age/size??
@tacltogether

@Mathew Cheadle honestly just made a very oversized planters box with the same substrate mix used in my other tortoise table build. I’m hoping they do breed in the future.

Generally, on cherryhead red foots, does the coloration get more intense with age or does it wash out eventually?
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 4 жыл бұрын
@ja92css it all depends on the tortoise some more than others but if you keep them nice and clean they’ll always have nice coloration too them.

When you travel do you leave your them? How do you make sure that they have enough water and food?
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 4 жыл бұрын
@ cha aguirre when I travel I do leave them in their enclosure. Their water bowl is on a automatic timer that refills with water twice a day so they always have fresh water. In regards to the food, before leaving I leave them a good amount of food and in their enclosure they also have edible plants in which they can eat. If I leave for a extended period I have friends and family that stop by to feed. Even though tortoise can go for pretty long periods with out food.

Hi. I just got a tortoise but I’m not sure if it’s a Redfoot or cherry head... how can I tell? It’s a hatchling
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 4 жыл бұрын
@Arshi B congrats on the hatchling. It’s kind of hard to tell at first, some of the areas you can look at are the head coloration, usually red foot have a yellowish head as they get older the cherry head have red. Also you can look at the legs coloration as well. It may take some time for you to really be able to tell as it grows. The care is essentially the same so you should be good there.

Hi. I just bought my 11 months cherry head today. Curious about the range temperature. Google say is 75°-90°. Buy my seller say is 30-40°
@tacltogether
@tacltogether 4 жыл бұрын
@DeeRealThor1211 rich cherry heads are very hardy species of tortoise and do very well. Optimally you should have them within that 80s-90s temp. Make sure they have a basking spot as well as an area to escape the direct heat. But they can go up to low temps for short periods of time of night times get a bit chilly where you are. I’ve seen them be in the 50s for short times with a place to hide and they are fine. But definitely shouldn’t be all the time should usually be with that 80s-90s F. Hope that helps.

@ Krystian I’m glad to hear my video helped. Generally they grow about 11-14 inches as an adult. They grow very quickly for about the first 5-10 years then start growing more slowly after. They are great tortoise to have as pets because they are very hardy. Expect them to be around for a long time in most cases they live for about 50 years in captivity 😁
