In this episode, a conure is only favoring his male human instead of the female and showing aggression to anyone besides his favorite human. Hormones play a huge role when birds tend to only like one person. Learn more about them here: birdtricksstor...

It can be so hard when a parrot decides to favour one persona and ignore/dive bomb/attack other household members! We have got the 60/40 about right with our conures, and our cockatiels are so confident and independent that we almost seem to have a 50/50 even split which is great! 😁🦜

That guy really felt like the sort that actually rather likes that his parrot prefers him and can't see any problem. I think he'll come around when he gets used to it and see that it's better for everyone, but it's interesting to see, I imagine that dynamic is pretty common in your training sessions, sometimes it's more about training the humans than the birds I think.

@@kerrihiggins2106 Honestly, not the best. He still doesn't let me interact much with Kinder, but when we do interact I get bit less. Jamie and Dave taught me to read body language and that was incredibly helpful. I'd say we are at 90/10 instead of 60/40, which is an improvement since he wsnt letting me do anything with Kinder. My boyfriend is very stubborn and still treats Kinder kind of like a dog. So im just doing what I can when I can.

@@mioneconure10 my sun conure bites don't hurt, I doubt that little green cheek bites that hard, my bird loves my wife, but he does bite her for some reason out of the blue, and there is blood.... Really hoping they are hearing what you are saying, and introspective enough to carry it through. Some people like being the extra special person to a pet, and almost feel threatened having to share (have seen this behavior often), can even go as far as the relationship of the two humans ending. Not meaning to be a Debbie downer, just noticed certain characteristics the gentleman portrayed. Most important is they made an effort to get help from BirdTricks, and if they take all you said to heart, both humans and their feathered friend will learn valuable lessons. Wishing them the best!

Can you Please do a video on "dominance theory" in birds! I legitimately just saw someone mention how birds like to sit on your head because it's the highest place and they can dominate you that way, and I am FLOORED. It has occured to me that some people believe this and it's painful to think that they treat their birds as though they're constantly out to fight for "alpha" or some BS.

I think it is so interesting that we almost all want to be loved by our animals and we often forget that they are a beings too and we have to respect their rules and boundaries. Almost like a child who has to learn this. And one can see how hard it is firm him to hear this ♥️ I made the experience that if I ask myself what and why I want something from my animal I find out more about myself and try to give it to myself - like self care, positive affirmation and respect myself and the animal too. This is quiet instand how my attitude changes. 😘 thank you for sharing this with us

Way to shout out the super sexual move on the bird. This was a gentle reminder for me to watch how I handle my little feathered ladies. Thank you for the lesson. It is a lesson that needs to be taught from the moment any person gets a bird or any animal. My heart breaks for the birds whose owners never were taught or bothered to research the effect of their handling and touches. I hope the fellow learns and provides the best life for that bird. What a beauty.

I have a feeling that this guy ( the owner ) actually really loves being the favorite and the fact that the bird hates his partner. I think that he enjoys having the attention of his bird souly devoted to him. He seemed to be super uncomfortable with the fact that the bird was doing so well with his partner. I have no question in my mind that he truly loves his bird, I just think that he doesn't want to share his birds love if that makes any sense.

The thing to remember with these videos is that these people have already taken steps and reached out for help with Jamie and Dave and paid to be in these classes - if they didn't actually want help, they wouldn't sign up. This is also a super quick snapshot of what is a 4 hour class - not everything can be shown in it's entirety and Jamie and Dave do try to focus on the issue when editing so probably a lot of the footage is about him and the bird together, not separate. Also the fact that both of them were there shows that they are both invested in this, otherwise only 1 would have come and just told what the issue was (this happens a lot with consultations). So both being there really says something about the dedication they have. It's also super hard to let go of that sometimes. I know when I got Tango I wanted Tango all to myself since our other bird, Woodrow, was very much attached to my husband. The minute Tango started showing signs of liking my husband I freaked because I thought I would lose him too. Thanks to Jamie and Dave I learned that that wasn't the case and we have established an amazing relationship with both of us and Tango, but it took a while for me to accept that. It's hard and it's human nature to love feeling "chosen" :)

@@tangothebubbypuppychicken526 yeah. Thanks for that. That makes a lot of sense. I wasn't trying to be rude in any way by what I wrote in my comment and am sorry if it came out that way. Just watching this video, and, I could be way off base, I think I felt that the husband kind of liked being the favorite person to his bird. Please correct me if I’m wrong here. I always try to listen real hard and watch for responses and reactions from the birds and their parents. Reactions are the negative side of a response. Respond/responding is positive. @@mioneconure10 I can see why this challenged your relationship. I made mistakes when I first got my conure and he started attacking my husband. I have a bird room and he is never out when my husband's home. It's made a big difference. Because I visit my bird in the birdroom(where he lives with 2 budgies) our relationship has changed to flock members instead of me being his mate. My husband only deals with him when he chooses. We are working on the sixty forty Rule. My husband gives him a favorite treat, that I don't give(through the bars). In fact most of the time at this stage, I'm not in the room because I want them to establish their own relationship. Later I'll put in the equation. I think it will take several months. I will not put my husband in harm's way. I was even going to rehome Milton, which tore me up and my husband saw this and we figured out the bird room.Did your husband learn anything from this workshop or from watching himself in the video. I understand his desire to be special and I can tell you that spending less time with my bird didn't change that part of our friendship. He still loves me to pieces. The thing that is changing as my husband works on developing his own relationship with Milton is now Milton's life is enriched because he has another positive relationship in his life. If he loves his bird, then he should want his bird to be loved by as many people as possible. If he loves you, he needs to give you priority in his life. Love is not selfish or possessive. Good luck!

It's safer for you. It's easy to misread a bird and you end up getting bit rather than the bird stepping up.

This happened at my house. Only loved my boyfriend and hated me. I was the one who took care of it tho! If my bf was in the shower and didnt bring the bird with him, he would squeak and place and I would say"come on Woody" and he'd get on my finger and bite me all the way to the shower, then go in with my bf and act like a little angel! I never let it bother me I thought it was cute.

My conure loves my bf and I but she loves our shoulders more than anything :( she is on the seasonal feeding system and the pellets for bed. Im training on a welded T-stand my dad made (3-5min) (3x a day). Don’t know what else to do! She is a baby about 7 months old.

I also own the beginners training guide, the pellets are the organic birdtricks pellets. I have always been patient with her stepping off the shoulder and making it her decision but im afraid she might go to the shoulder because she knows she will get a treat when she gets off.

She probably won't see this but I need help. My parakeet is not drinking his water, or playing with his toy. He only has one but we will be getting more we've had him for 3 weeks about and I just started trying to train him.. he's placed in the family room and I spend a lot of time by him. I don't know what to do about the water situation oh, and I want to know if the seed I'm feeding him is good enough. Okay that's all.

Imagine, a small toddler, who will eat anything, including rocks, that never learned that biting is bad, and can reach all the places you never want a toddler to reach. And, they wake up at like 8am every single day. I will say though, they sleep for a solid 12 hours, which is unheard of with toddlers😂

Likely depends on the species but more the size. Big birds = big mess. Big birds also have incredible crushing power in their beaks and they love destroying toys made of wood. I love our cockatoo but have been bitten to the bone several times. After a year, I still can't trust her and worry that a reflex response might be harmful.

Hi, so I got a conure and he is the sweetest little thing, love him to absolute bits. Only issue I have, which is very slight, it's as if he doesn't understand how strong his bite is. He'll be fidgeting my finger with his tongue and sometimes he nibbles just a bit too hard. How can I minimize him biting too hard. Love the video, got a sub ❤️

I’m no bird expert so don’t trust me 100% but I’ve seen them do things where they’ll put the bird down immediately when it does that, so that the bird then realizes oh when I use my beak in that way I get put down. But there could be problems in accidentally training biting as the put me down cue so I’m not sure maybe something to think about

I think the bird was nice to the girl because she was someone she that he knows in a room full of strangers. This man needs to reevaluate if he is really loving his wife AND is he really loving his bird? Is he really unwilling to change his diet because Tinder loves the banana pellets? Is it really OK with him that his wife will have "no chance?" It also means his bird has no chance of having good relationships with other people too. He needs his birds affection and validation so much, that he is denying his bird's ability to function without him. What if he was to get sick or die? Then poor Tinder won't be able to function. This is selfish, not love. Sorry, but that's how I see it and I'm trying to change that dynamic with my conure whom I mistakenly set up to be like Tinder. Thanks Dave, I'm going for the 60/40!!!

Do everything you can to keep him off. If he lands on a head, use a treat to get him to step up and give the treat once he's placed on a location you want him.

That was super sexual “thank you” is not an appropriate answer. It’s beastality in a way. And is super gross. You are teasing your bird sexually and it’s not cool. This bird is confused and thinks the guy is his partner. That’s why the bird is unwilling to work with her. It’s not fair to the bird. Hope he can learn to stop stimulating his bird in that way.

@@mioneconure10 I’m so glad to hear! I know it’s hard. It can mentally make us feel good knowing we have a connection with an amazing intelligent creature, it’s so unfortunate that in bird land those things are mate behavior. Because as people it’s our instincts to cuddle and love. Again glad to hear it’s working out well!
