I met James Schefter at one of his book signings. I bought two autographed copies of All Corvettes are Red and talked with him for about an hour because he was at a bookstore that was pretty slow. He was a journalist and not really a Corvette Guy. But, he did a great job of telling the C5 story. RIP James. I wish you were still with us.

Loved your life story and it surely brightened my day! I’m 68, out of high school became a 3rd generation steel worker. The mill I worked in shutdown in mid 80’s. Worked in a motorcycle dealership, raced bikes then we started our own dealership. Took my first flying lesson in 1991. College, the business, and flying was my life and eventually got hired by NetJets. Now I’m retired and watching and reading everything I can about Corvettes, with the hope of getting a C6. And YOU and your awesome videos are a big part of my desire. Thanks all you do!!

Love your Corvette story Lyle❤ My Corvette obsession came at the age of 13. My dad worked at a Chevrolet dealership as a mechanic at the time. One day he came home with a poster from work of the most beautiful car I'd ever seen🧡 It was a poster of an orange Stingray Corvette. Of course I hung it on my bedroom wall and would stare at it constantly. And I would actually tell myself, I have to hurry and start working before the prices of them go up! Seems like they were 30k back then🤔 And 30K was like a million to this poor girl lol. But it remained my dream car. And my dad was always a car guy. But after working on them many years for a living, he was not a fan of Corvettes. And always told me, if I ever get one I better find someone else to work on it. Of course neither of us thought I'd ever get my dream car. But of course I'd joke and tell him if I ever do, I'm going to pull up at your house and make you ride in it. I decided to buy a C5 in 2010. But didn't tell any family or friends. Then I went to my parents house but parked in front of the neighbors house. I called my mom and told her to bring dad outside. When dad seen me behind the wheel of a Corvette, he told mom "That B#*%$ done gone and bought a Corvette!" And yes, I took him for a scary lil ride 😂 So glad I got my dream car and got to take my dad for that ride, before he passed away a couple of years later. I left out many details, but still a long story. But had to tell it ❤😁

Thanks so much for your "Corvette" history!! It all started when I was 6 and a red and white early '60s C2 drove by our house. I said, "Dad, what was that?" He said, "A Chevy Corvette." I looked over my shoulder at the '64 Chevy station wagon in our driveway and said, "Someday, I want to get a Chevy like that red car!". 17-years later I took dad for a ride in our '71 Vette and he had the biggest smile on his face!! We had a C3, '71 4-sp when we got married 44-years ago. a few cars later we got a C4, '86 coupe and drove it for many years. Later we got a beautiful, "built", C6, 2008 Indy Pace Car coupe, which I sadly sold due to changes at work. :( But now we have a C5, 2003 Z06 that was built for track duty. It is too much fun to be legal!! Good times!!

Enjoyed your story. I just happen to own a red Corvette ('88 C4). I read the same book. It was extremely interesting. I also own a black '03 C5. Whenever I'm hauling my grandkids, I fire up the '96 Impala SS. The thing I remember most about the book was Dave Hill's obsession with the weight of each individual part. I also remember that the engineers said that cost wise, reducing weight is just as effective as increasing horsepower.

Wow!!! Listening to your story just reignited my passion for the Corvette lineage, especially getting my fist Vette in 1998. Very few people understand the passion for the car is not to impress anyone, but an appreciation for the heritage and respect for all those who created, fought for and grew the legendary line. And that’s what you show in every one of your videos. Thank you.

What a great life story. Won't go into how I fell in love with Covettes except to say as a sophomore in HS (1971) I worked at a Volkswagen / Porsche / Audi dealership as a detailer. One of the mechanics had a 65 or 66 Corvette with sidepipes. He would take me on some spirited rides and by 1973 I bought my 1st Vette, a 1970 LT-1. (From there to a 1973, 1987, 1995 & 2000) Here I am today on my 6th Vette, a 2003 Z06, millinium yellow. and I love it.

Lyle, this is a great story!! Thank you for sharing it with us! My dad was a car guy and responsible for making me a car guy. But he never actually had a really cool car. The closest he got was a cream-colored '65 Mustang Coupe ... with a straight six (sigh). On the other hand, his brother (my uncle) had a '63 C2 convertible (!! so close to being a split window !!). Later, he had a C4 convertible. Besides the cars, he was still my favorite uncle. A year and a half ago, I bought my first Corvette (C7 GS), and I think of my dad and my uncle almost every time I look at it.

What a Great Story you’ve shared 🙂 Lyle, you’re partly responsible for the pick of my 2012 GS, as a result of watching your web videos. I always been attracted to Corvettes, but the budget and Family priorities made the Vette only a thought. After my retirement, like many folks of my age, the moment was right; my wife and I started to look for that road trips Vette. While considering your various Web advises, one morning I found that great looking GS convertible (very low milage, one owner, right colour for us) and at a decent price. Since then, I’ve enjoyed every rides, I often Thank You in my mind, when I roll that GS in the garage until the next ride. Long leave the King, who thinks he is « just a Dude » !! ✌👍👍👍

Lyle, another interesting read : "In the Rings of Saturn" by Joe Sherman. Fascinating book about the birth of the Saturn Corporation. I'm showing my prejudice but that is the exact car America needs again. Before I sold my 2002 SC2 5spd three door coupe, we rode 305,000 miles together. What a car...dealer had added a moonroof, the aero kit, spoiler package, lowered body and Borbet wheels, the "accessorized package". $21k sticker.

Lyle, thanks for sharing. My first love was my uncle’s Root beer brown 1974 Corvette which was the first year of the new split rear polyurethane bumper. He pulled up in our driveway with it and I was really impressed that an American car could look and sound that good. It was the whole package. Now at 69 I am looking for a low mileage C5, C6, or C7. Your videos are very informative in helping me to decide on the differences of each model. Thinking 2014 Z51 manual with Kalahari leather 2LT. Talk about a needle in a haystack but she is out there somewhere. Thanks again Lyle! Gonna get the book by the way…

As an owner of three Corvettes over the past 20 years, I can relate to your passion. I read 'All Corvettes Are Red' a few months ago and agree it provides incredible insight in the GM culture and politics involved in producing the legendary Corvette. It gave me a much greater appreciation for the C5 and just how revolutionary the engineering was, expanding to the C6 and C7. Amazing how that book and a conversation with the gentlemen in the airport could change your life. Awesome story and thanks for sharing. For the record, your website is the best Corvette forum on KZfaq IMO.

Really enjoyed that Lyle, I go back a little further in time when I saw the 1953 at the Auto Show in NYC while I was still in high school. I was really hoping that it would have the '53 Oldsmobile motor as was rumored to be, however, never happened, Zora Duntov stated later that it was too large a displacement and weight, ergo the '55 small block! DUDE!! I have that book and am only 1/2 way through it. My story is precious to me... I became a OEM design engineer at Ford in 1992. And have been and am still a OEM design engineer here 32yrs later. (different OEM) So much in that book resonates with me. And.... for whatever reason the Corvette has been in my heart and head since the 70s when I was a kid. Today I have a 49K mile 04 Z06 in the garage and I hope to keep it for the rest of my life. With a few mods it's an incredible vette. Runs low to mid 12s, I get 28mpg on road trips, is comfortable to drive, and SOUNDS awesome w/a full exhaust upgrade. IMO GM should have put a cowl induction hood on the Z06's..... Anyway... your story is very cool and thank you! Shalom from a C5 Z06 owner in Ohio

My first Corvette was a second hand ‘67 convertible Corvette which followed with a ‘78 ( got it stolen in less than one week after purchasing brand new) I replaced it with a new ‘79 Corvette. My wife convinced me to sell it when the price of gas started going through the roof. After that I was forced to look at “normal” cars for a daily ride. I’m just short of 80 years old. Still miss each of my Corvettes. Once bitten, it never goes away.

Lyle, always great to hear how YOU and many of us, were first enthralled with the Corvette. My story started in the Summer of 1969 when stationed at the NAS in Brunswick, ME. I was enlisted at that time and on duty when an Air Force dental officer friend of a dentist I worked with, drove over from Topsham AFB in a brand new, 1969 Corvette 4spd coupe. It was a beautiful blue color. He told me " hop in, I'll take you for a ride"...I said, "I can't, I'm on duty "...to which he replied, "gotcha covered". The ride up I-95 (one exit worth) was, needless to say, exilerating. What an amazing car...young people today cannot even begin to fathom how incredibly DIFFERENT that car, in those years, was to anything else on the road. My dream was realized in 1979 after finishing up my undergrad degree and becoming a Navy dentist...the red L-82 4 spd coupe, black interior and Pace Car spoilers, was a dream finally realized. I did read "All Corvette's are Red" and still have the book on my shelf. Thanks for making it available to others, it is an engaging and well researched documentary. You are very right, the Corvette is a survivor. ( I laughed about the yellow C3 with side pipes...I tried a pair of chrome Hooker headers on mine for a while...what a sound ☺️)

I fell in love when I got to look at it up close! In junior high our science teacher, Mrs Well had a new 68! I remember standing next to it as it rumbled! I was beyond hooked! My love for Corvette started when I was 8 and accompanied my father to a Chevrolet dealership to have his 1953 Chevrolet serviced. A salesperson gave me a Corvette promotional items and my love for the Corvette began. I have owned 5.

I was 16 when the C5 debuted, and already a diehard Corvette fan! I bought the book and read it cover to cover in a matter of hours- to say I was obsessed was an understatement! A few years later, my mom surprised me with a trip to the National Corvette Museum and a tour of the assembly plant at Bowling Green while we were on a family vacation. Years later, I lost my hardcover copy of the book during a divorce. Fast forward another decade and a half, and I ordered a paperback copy. It’s still on my desk at work due to the inspirational nature of the story. About a year ago, I became the proud owner of a red C6, and it has lived up to the dream in every way! We’ll be driving it to south west Florida this summer, so I hope to stop by and visit the shop on our way to or from Fort Myers. After that- we’re off to Bowling Green for a dream photo op…

Great story Lyle. This was fate and meant to be. I'm very fortunate to have found your channel, which have saved me thousands in repairs over the past five years. I also own the book and hits close to home, since I worked at the GM Tech Center in Warren MI from 1981 to 1987. Great post sir!!

I love your story! As an owner of a 2000 C5 I couldn't resist as I heard stories about all the fighting over the C5.

Great story. Thank you for sharing. All Corvettes Are Red is a great book. My Dad was not a car guy as such...but he was an open wheel racing fan....and his best friend was not just a car guy but a Corvette guy....We used to store his hardtop for his white 1964 fuelie in our garage. I was 5 when they asked me to go with them to get it serviced. One ride down our street as he nailed 2nd gear with the top down I was hooked....one day I will have a white fuelie.

My first ride in a corvette was 1967 in a friend’s 1958 corvette……what a blast that ride was. Skip forward to 1972….I had just returned from a long vacation in Vietnam thanks to Uncle Sam and another friend had a 1963 split window corvette..that car was Fast!! Drove a 1972 corvette that a friend was trying to sell me for a couple of days in 1985…..just could not reach a good price on it as it needed unite a bit of work. My C-6 convertible has been with me for quite a few years now and I love it. Met an “older” gentleman at a gas pump in Abilene Texas as I was filling up and he was driving a new C-8 which was fully loaded…I asked him how he liked the engine in back of him and he said it’s ok but I have a few other corvettes to drive if I get tired of this one. I asked him how many corvettes he had and he said this C-8 is my 23rd corvette and I never sell any of them. Crazy Old Man!!!! Should have followed him home to go thru his big barn full of corvettes……..
