Lave watched "My Cousin Rachel" and now he's telling you what he thought about it. Rachel Weisz stars alongside Sam Claflin in this period drama based on Daphne du Maurier's acclaimed novel. But is it any good?

Saw it yesterday. It's OK. Very beautiful photography and Rachel W is great. I think I would have enjoyed it more if a younger actor played Philip. Sam just looks too dashing, worldly, and mature to play a character who you either have to believe is young and naive or stupid. Since he didn't look young or naive to me, he just seemed stupid. Imagine Tom Holland in that part for instance. The film would feel so different and Philip's arc would seem more plausible to a contemporary audience.

I see what you mean. Have you read the book? Tom Holland is maybe too young though? That would change the tone of the film completely. I liked how Rachel treated him in the film... "go to sleep like a good boy"! Lol

I did not read the book. Tom is a little young at 21 but he gets my point across quickly. Logan Lerman is 25 and would be a good choice as well. Everything I saw in the film just makes more sense to me when I picture Tom/Logan in the role of Philip. I'm curious if people who have read the book and read the Hunger Games series imagined Philip and Finnick as comparable in appearance. Nice channel by the way.

I saw the movie about a year or two ago and I have to say I am still undecided weather or not she killed her husband. on one hand certainly raychels behavior at times seem manipulative and cunning but innocent like a child as is Philip. at the end u realy do not know was ambrose as well as Philpe suffering from a horrible case of genetic cancers and other bad health or did raychel actually kill her husband and lead Philip along. I personally feel like the story portrayed they differences between how men and women approach love and sex. When talking about men and women you might as well be talking about two differint spicies of creaturs which are alike in so many ways but differint ,that are awfull together but at the same time need one another in differint ways to survive.

I think Rachel was guilty because she is shown putting something in the tea and there is mention of a poisonous plant at the estate in England as well as the home in Italy.

I do think you are missing the critical point the movie is making about how women are forced to view marriage in a very rational way by society. They loose an awful lot of independence and the way Phillip expects Rachel to give up that independence on a whim is very telling. In a society where women had barely any rights it was very understandable, that they viewed love and sex very differently. And I think the movie did a great job of giving us that perspective.

agree with you about block busters and "Adventure" films, I swear so-called "B" (""lesser"" pfft) is the new A grade - as in when it hadn't gone to shit yet, and the actors were good at their craft special effects and stunts weren't over the top and overused, so it was simply quality location and acting merged into one! *^ _ ^*) I'd chose that any ol' day really! I need a film that evokes something from within me not some trashy blockbuster or adventure flick. My fave since a little one is "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE" series de 1995 my fave characters are Lizzy & Darcy. Also like Jane for her true nature. Same really for the other two!! ^_^

I hear you. If a film is well written, shot, directed, acted then that ticks all the boxes for me. I'm not apposed to CG driven films but not at the expense of a good story. Thanks for watching and for your comment, it is much appreciated!

I think she died accidentally. Philip sent her to that cliff because he knew she had good chances to fall off.

This movie was a long, slow, piece of garbage with no actual ending or resolution. I'm seriously pissed I wasted my time watching it.

iwatched... it just really irked me that the whole movie you're wondering if she's guilty or innocent, and it never flat out answers the question. I realize that was kind of the author's original intent, but had I known they wouldn't answer the question- I wouldn't have bothered watching it.
