Ah I love "meeting" your dad. I'm a contemporary with him. To hear him consider how people around the world searched for meaning and found (and still find) connection in music... what a fine gentleman your father is, heart, soul and mind. Thank you for sharing a bit of your dad. And yes Santana is incredible. Thank you Sebs.

1969 Santana performed at Woodstock, blew everyone away, and all the gente in California and East L.A. took immediate notice of a new icon performing a mix of rock and latino sounds. It was electric! Have loved every one of albums ever since. He brought his Tijuana background and merged it with San Francisco rock...and the rest was history.

As for your brother sharing his experiences "finding" the music that many of us grew up on, or enjoyed recently, is a pleasure to watch. He feels what the various artists are telling the world. Your sister-in-law adds a lot to the channel too. You're lucking having such great men in your family.

I'm in my 60's as well. Our generation was exposed to so many diverse genres, sounds and artists; I still hear it through the lens of my youth, but now with a much deeper appreciation for the way it continues to be relevant today. There's a lot of wisdom in you dad. And for him to share just a tiny bit with us in this video is such a gift! Music has been a human connection for millennium. One tribe sharing with another. Then one city with another, and then countries. Now music is universal, or at least planetary. I'm gonna have to rewatch the video with your father-in-law. Refresh my memory of his wisdom..... 🏃

Your Dad is very interesting and what a fascinating life he's had. I love your Papá. Growing up Chicano in CA, I grew up from a child with Santana in the background of my life. It's the music from our barrios with that Latino sound of our parents with the Rock of those of us born American. This music was a key part of our unique identity. To me Santana is the soundtrack of being Chicano. From the lowriders cruising the Blvd to the parties at someone's house to my older brother smoking those funny cigarettes with his friends as I listened to the music in his room, feeling all grown up, to Sundays in the park, Santana was always there. The first concert I went to was Santana. Santana will be played at my funeral, that's how I came in and that's how I'm going out.

That was an excellent video, thank you for that. I am around your dad's age and can relate to everything he was saying. He is so right, seeing Vietnam on tv every night and seeing the horrors of that...every young person wanted a different world and not more of the same, and the music that grew from that is still some of the best music every conceived, in my opinion, which I think is what you've been learning from your excellent channel. Peace. (btw, Black Magic Woman is originally a Fleetwood Mac song, written by Peter Green in the days of FM long before the famous version of the band that everybody knows. You might enjoy looking up the original of BMW also)

Your Dad is so profound with his knowledge. Too often we don't take time to share moments like you just did, with our parents. The music of yesterday carried a lot of meaning, missing from the more modern sound. Probably why I'm not a fan of much that has come out since 2000 to now. You could get lost in a different time when you hear "old school" music. I gravitate from the 1920s and 30s swing era to the beginning of the 1990s, and I love Opera. When my kids grew up there was a huge variety of music played in our house. My son became a self-employed DJ because of the variety he enjoyed. He even did gigs for Senior Citizens because he could bring back memories in their life, just by the music he played for them.

Thanks for sharing this time with your father. He is a precious man and has so much wisdom to share. May I suggest that you get a small recorder, am old so I guess you would use your phone, to record him sharing his memories and perspectives on growing up, and the history during that time. As a nudse, I have had the privilege to care for some of the last WWII vets. Many opened up about their experiences serving during that time. Often I would hear stories they had never shared with anyone. I always relayed these stories to their families and encouraged them to record, or write down their stories. I encourage everyone to find a way to ask the questions they are curious about and record the stories and answers. We are losing the best repository of history to age and attrition. Really enjoyed you and your dad!

I'm in awe of peoples determination to carve out a path that they designed; and to stick to it no matter what obstacles are in the way. I really love the early footage of Carlos Santana's band, including his keyboard player Greg Rowley (journey's first keyboard player). What rape music and what a great way to tie in all this together through the love of music. I found this particular channel yesterday and have not gotten off of it, I love the emotion and the honesty I see on this channel it brings me to tears. I'm very emotional when I watch some of these channels and don't mind seeing other grown men feeling the same way and getting the same emotion out of what they see and hear. Enjoyed your conversation with Dad. I am of the same generation as your father and feel fortunate to have grown up in a marvelous musical era. I was 12 years old and living in Northern New Jersey along the New York state line not far from Bethel. I did not attend Woodstock but numerous people in my area did and this one of a kind happening made a huge impact on me. The organizers of Woodstock came to the realization that they were in over their heads and reached out to a west coast promoter named Bill Graham of Fillmore West for help. He agreed if he could bring a new band from San Francisco with him named Santana. "Soul Sacrifice" released a new Rock/Latin Jazz sound on America that I have been enjoying for decades. Carlos Santana has provided us with an endless wealth of great music thru his bands and numerous collaborations with other artists. "Mr. Lucky" and "The Healer" with John Lee Hooker comes to mind. Have seen him live over a dozen times and always leave with a great feeling. Always a very diverse crowd filled with a feeling of camaraderie and fellowship. Mr. Santana is a master guitarist who puts so much feeling into every note which is expressed in his numerous instrumentals like "Europa", "Flor De Luna", "Samba Pa Ti", "Bella" and many others. As you can tell, I could go on forever about this living legend but suffice it to say enjoyed your Dose of Carlos! Hope to hear more along with some Simon and Garfunkel, Carpenters, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, WOW, did I mention I grew up in a wonderful musical age!

I'm 62 & grew up in LA and Marin County listening to Santana. I am glad that Carlos did not follow in his father's footsteps of playing Mariachi. I would recommend listening to the original version of this song. It was written by Peter Green and released by his band Fleetwood Mac in 1968. Treasure the time you have with your father, Sebs, because as I found out it can't be recovered. Peace & long life to you and yours.

I actually was about your age when Woodstock happened. I knew most of the music that was played there and both my sweetheart and I loved Santana. I'm looking forward to watching both of you with this song and group. I still have my Santana albums - started with records, tapes, CDs. I was 13, the American airlines were on strike. My mother worked for Pan Am and we took a flight that landed us in Guatemala. Half of the US flyers were also there so it took us about 4 days to get from Florida to Guatemala to California to see my older sister. I enjoyed my sister and her family but it was so cool to see all kinds of things that I'd never experienced before. Thanks for sharing your dad with us. What a treat!

I'm in your dad's "age group" and was absolutely captivated by listening to him. Thank you so much for sharing him with us! My dad was a proud graduate in Tulane in New Orleans. And finally, I now see where you get your good looks from! Thanks again for a really special experience.❤

I could listen to your dad talk about the time and music and culture of that era forever. His perspective brings me much food for thought. I am just a tiny bit older than your dad and I too remember the first time I saw that movie about Woodstock. I remember seeing the Vietnam War on tv, the hippies, all of it. Muchisimas Gracias por los recuerdos.

Here's to requesting your dad to be on the show more often! Why did you wait till he was leaving to put him on? Anyway - that guy singing and playing the keyboards is Gregg Rolie BEFORE he went and started Journey with Neal Schon who was also in the band. The drummer is Mike Shrieve and the Bass player is David Brown. Also that song is a FLEETWOOD MAC song that Peter Green wrote. So much history wrapped up in Carlos Santana. The band Santana got their break because of Bill Graham’s Fillmore West where Santana was considered a "house" band of sorts. Bill thought so much of the band that he brought them to Woodstock. Even Miles Davis wanted Carlos to be his guitarist.
