This is how I built my new CNC Router with ATC (Automatic Tool Change) and Vacuum Table.
Usable size : 1000x1400mm
ISO20 / ER16 tool holder
Rack with 15 tools
2.2kW water-cooled ATC Spindle (JGL-80/2.2R30-20) / 30000 RPM max
2.5kW Side Channel blower for vacuum.
3 layers MDF vacuum table.
And here you can see it in action milling aluminium :

Congratulations to you Yann, I feel that there will soon be a very big machine ;) I loved your 3D presentation to show how your machine was assembled. As I already knew her, I'm not surprised but I still discovered some nice things, like the rails fixed from below which is a good thing so that the slides are not exposed to chips.

Nice work. I'm really liking the vacuum table setup. I'd love to see more videos on how well the design worked for you and details. I have been thinking the diaphragm vacuum pumps on some industrial water pumps I work with might do very well for the application.
@YannPomarede
@YannPomarede 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think diaphragm vacuum pumps are high vacuum (close to 0 bar) but low airflow? It could be suited if you want to hold firmly small parts with good sealing, but in the case of a MDF vacuum table with lots of leaks, what's most important is a high airflow to compensate for all the leaks. No?

That ATC is genious.. Be careful with those shavings on the cones though.
@YannPomarede
@YannPomarede 3 жыл бұрын
Yep that's a great spindle. There is an air-blast (from the inside of the spindle) cleaning the cone just before grabbing it. I had very few occurrences of a shaving being stuck. Especially while cutting aluminium dry, those big shavings get easily blasted away. I have more problems with wood fine dust accumulating on the cone. If the cone is a bit oily it sticks and I have to clean it by hand.

@@YannPomarede Hmm... Have you thought about a cover from Plexiglass similar to the ones on datron machines? Maybe you could make it so that the cover gets pushed away by the Y-Axis when moving back. That would not require any changes to electronics or pneumatics.

@@Z-add I'm building a vertical mill with ATC right now. I am using a BT30 belt drive spindle cartridge with drawbar and a 2kN pneumatic actuator to release the tools. It's really simple. The tool is held inside the spindle through the pull stud with a big stack of springs. To change the tool, pressure is applied to the pneumatic actuator which compresses the springs and releases the tool. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/odF3hNhzvqurfYE.html

The material's brand is Valchromat. It's a kind of MDF but with more density, more "glue/resin" and a thiner grain. It should be more stable with humidity. It's also more airtight than normal MDF but it's always better to apply glue on the side and bottom.
