Really dig the way you explain concepts to clients to build trust, especially when something may seem counterintuitive in the tracking stage, but will actually better serve a final mix!

Thanks! Yeah I've been through it so many times. I know most of the common worries folks may have about the sounds we're making so I try to ease any potential anxiety as much as I can 😊 Also it's just nice to share unexpected stuff that I had to learn the hard way so maybe other folks can pick it up quicker than I did!

Love the overpowered sub to monitor combo. My current TV setup has my JBL 305P monitors paired with a 12" powered PA sub and I LOVE IT. Movie watching is fantastic when I can dial in the low and loud rumble.

Right on! I like to run the sub loud anyway so I'm not surprised with anything that's going on in the low end when I hear the mix on a boomier system 😊

I’ve been using those same m-audio monitors for years. I prefer them to my more expensive jbl’s - without a doubt!

Nice! Someday I'll try something fancier, but who knows if I'll like them better. I've made a career with these.

Not the best idea for everyone in the same room... Theres normally entourage, guests, management, media, video, coming in and out of the sessions.. I did a live to multi session recently and were one room short.. The studio owner was trying to get us to put 2 trumpets in the CR. I didn't like the idea. We ended up putting them into an adjacent writing suite and ran lines from there.. 10 people rolled through that session.. So glad we did that...

Agreed. The new studio I’m building will have several rooms for isolation and guests. This setup works well enough for now…

Excellent. ❤❤❤ What I really like about this, is that you show so clearly that spending thousands of $$$$$ is not the answer to making and producing music.

100%!! Took me awhile to learn that myself... these days I'd prefer to spend my time in the studio vibing with the band and making creative decisions rather than shooting out preamps and dialing in outboard compression lol

Can you make a video on exactly how you are routing everything into the daw using the onyx? Glad I found your channel most stuff on KZfaq is not for live bands and if it is they’re using 20k dollar consoles so keep doing what you’re doing

Thanks! It's so simple with the Onyx... It's a USB 2.0 interface. It will record all 24 input channels to separate tracks in your DAW. They are recorded pre-EQ and fader, so they are basically direct outs after the preamp and low-cut switch. Hope that helps!

Great as always. I just noticed you removed your live recordings! 😮Besides being inspiring, they helped me want to be a better engineer live. Hopefully more people will feel the same way I do about them. Anyway I understand, but I miss them.

Thanks, and thanks for saying that! I definitely may make a new channel for the live recordings to live... unfortunately I had to take them down for the betterment of this channel in the long run.

@7:37 😳🤔🙄🙄🙄 I don't know that it's our job to teach the musicians how to play their instruments. More everything he does is going to be different that the way it's has been previously practiced and performed. I think this is a huge no no, however i have had to tell musicians not to tap or strike the deck s it sounds like a gun going off to the mic... and yes, that really changed his dynamics of doing that song, or the many others that he played live with using only a room mic... which is a be different "environment" than a pro mic setup. I do agree that gorilla grabbing the guitar and thrashing the strings is probably not a good practice for most songs, but if that's how this band jams, then let him do it, besides he's being recorded solo, so let him whale on the strings all he wants if that's how the songs goes... no other mics or instruments will hear it. I sometimes put these guys in the closet or farthest room away from me so they can jam out to their hearts content and it doesn't bother my listening to the mix.

I wouldn't tell a 30 year vet how to play on a live band session (watch my other videos I definitely don't), but Jordan had only gotten serious about playing guitar a year ago and was down for all the tips he could get. He had never even recorded in a professional setting before and I would have been short-changing them not to coach him as to get the best sound and performance possible for the song 😊
