I have drilled holes in 1/2" pvc and run it around the two sides and back. It is hooked to an exhaust fan suction plate on the side of the enclosure. The holes takes a suction between my grid and the metal backing plate.

Very informative! I am thinking of doing basically the same type of vac sytem for my laser. I just got a Longer Ray5 20W and the extension kit as well as the roller attachment. I built a table in my basement for it and I was thinking of getting one of those zip up plastic type enclosures but I have heard they are kinna flimsy. Since seeing this I think I am going to go this route with some mods to suit my needs! I have a vivosun 4" 195 cfm vent fan that I am going to use for the fan. BTW I have all your jig files that I got off of Etsy! I know they are going to come in super handy! Thanks for all the videos! Guinea hens are your guard chicken it looks like! Growing up in rural Texas on the farm we had about 10 of them! The make a racket when disturbed at night! Excellent alarm chickens!

Have you considered drilling a grid of holes in the bed under the work area to provide for 'suction Hold down' of the work pieces?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Ай бұрын
No, lasers really don't need hold downs for what I do.
@armastat
@armastat Ай бұрын
@@TheClackShack I should of added - since it was my real point - that they also provide smoke suction across the whole work area directly from the back side of the piece. With honeycomb or the wire grid like u have they cant hold it 'down' - it can't create a vacuum seal - but it will hold it (and little pieces cut out) 'still' so they dont move or warp or blow around from such things as the air assist.

Thank you very much. i like your place, your style and your videos. i don't have a laser engraver yet, but i'm collecting a lot of information about it. i heard about the advantages of the airassist and in particular that the lens would not get dirty as quickly. this gave me the idea of an underfloor extraction system. you did it great. question, wouldn't it be more effective to drill a few more holes in the middle, for smaller workpieces?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
I stayed away from anything in the path of the laser, an out of focus laser beam is more likely to start a fire. If the bottom of the box had a metal floor under the holes, then it would work. Also, tiny pieces of cut outs fall down below and could end up blocking the air. That was my reasoning.

I like your videos very informative was wondering if I used my dust collector as the vacuum
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack 2 жыл бұрын
I would make sure not to discharge it into a pile of dust. May be a risk of a flash fire or explosion. Fine sawdust particles can act as an explosive if the air mixture is right. The blower would probably work but careful with the dust

You would have to remove the air space created by the wire mesh and place holes in the middle but that is a possibility. I use jigs to hold things still.

I'm new to your channel, great video! I just got a 10 watt laser a few days ago, and I'm going to do something similar to remove smoke and hold the material down flat. Do you use air assist with yours? I love using eastern red cedar too - live in Arkansas. Some woods make more soot and smoke than others. Woods that make good firewood such as oak and hickory make less soot - and less buildup in the chimney.

New to your channel. I heard about you through Maymay. (funny how things work out this way, huh? The big man knows what he's doing, even when I don't. haha) I am saving to get one of these laser cutters, and I was wondering is it's only specific kinds of wood that will smoke, or does everything smoke. For instance, I plan to use mine to engrave and cut acrylics and basswood for making dollhouse miniatures.. Very sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm researching what I need beforehand, rather than after. My craft room is in my house, so I want to be as safe as possible. Thanks in advance. I'll be watching a lot more of your videos in the coming weeks.
