Don't know if anyone said that before but a woodworking friend of mine told me a trick. You can buy boards that are supported by plywood that's glued at 90° to the rest at the two ends. This way it can't bend with the fiber of the wood. You need to know the size of the boards though.

Great job! They look great. I, too have taken on (and finished) numerous projects that have required multiple “revisions”… My only observation is that it would have been great if you could have put it all together with an internal hinge so the metal piano hinges wouldn’t distract from the overall look. Overall, looks great & it’s always satisfying to figure it out & overcome!!
@BroBuilds Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. At the time I was concerned that the screws from an internal hinge would have torn out of the MDF over time. So instead of screwing into the edge of the MDF, I attached it this way.

Hm....I'm wondering if the problem is with the old wood frame rather than the new wood your using for the top.
@BroBuilds2 жыл бұрын
That is definitely possible. I'm sure the old frame wasn't perfect. But the warp in the new wood was very obvious, and fixing that made it fit pretty closely.
@2012isRonPaul3 жыл бұрын
should have put the hinges on the inner side of the lid, so that only the rotation part would have stuck out?
@BroBuilds3 жыл бұрын
I felt like the screws might crack the MDF from that angle, so that's why I went down from the top rather than into the edge. I agree it would've looked better the other way, but I didn't want to risk it! 🙂
@David-sc4hi3 жыл бұрын
Came to suggest this also. I seen a method where you dowel into it first then the screws go into the dowels and it acts like a rawl-plug. But either way its a good looking job and fulfils the intended purpose. So its a win.
@BroBuilds3 жыл бұрын
@@David-sc4hi interesting! I would have never thought of that, but I can totally see how that would work.

Definitely not a critique, you did fantastic work. Just a question, out of curiosity. Is there any way to make those hinges look better and not stand out as much? Love your channel, and all of the content you post. I hope to be as handy as you some day!
@BroBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can put the hinge strips flat against each other (closed) and place them just sticking out of the crack. Then attach the hinges to the lid by screwing INTO the edge of the lid. I worried they'd split going into the edges like that, so I did it top down. But if you get better wood fire your lids - solid boards - that'd be the way to do it.
Hopefully we'll finish up the pizza oven project and get that video out within a week or two!

I thought about hiding the hinge in the crack, but was worried the screws would tear out of the MDF if I screwed them into the edge - which is the only way I could think of to attach a hidden hinge and still allow it to open upwards.
