He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book kzfaq.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

While true, its important to emphasize training takes time, a dog should be farther along in their training than this. This also showcases either a lack of proper consistent,training or an inept trainer.

People in the comment seriously need to chill. Just because you don’t agree on what he is teaching or how he is teaching doesn’t mean that he his methods don’t work, you have to remember that every dog is different. He is teaching his dog not yours. Also just because she is a border collie doesn’t mean that she will react to training the same as other border collies do or what people expect from the breed. He is a professional so he knows what he is doing. I can almost guarantee that the people that are pressed aren’t professional. He might also have different training styles then you. He knows what he wants interia to have mastered by what age and what he wants her to know. He is training inertia not your dog. If you want videos on how to train dogs in general then watch his older videos. This series is showing how he is training inertia not dogs in general. If you don’t agree with how he is training then please go and find someone you find helpful. And don’t leave hate comments. He doesn’t deserve them you’ll are just pressed because you don’t like her training progression. If you wanted to hate then you would hate on something like forcefulness. He is not forceful. He does things right. Hating because you don’t like where she is at with her training is honestly sad.

I literally cried when I saw this. I have a 7 month old coonhound who I adore. He will sit and stay, and walk on a leash and do a ton of tricks when it is just me. But he gets excited and starts putting when ever there is a person or a dog. A neighbor keeps insisting he needs professional training. It was like a breath of fresh air to see a professional having the same issues and showing the process is gradual and not overnight. Thanks for that.

This type of training is not inefficient and both trainer and pup are high energy. They’ll definitely get there. What’s important is that she is building this communication channel with her trainer instead of being scared into it or stressed into learning. Consistency is key. Okay I do enjoy watching Zak's videos but I'm just gonna say this. My dog Scout is an assistance dog in training and he's 10 months old now and knows over 40 commands reliably. He was ignoring people and loose leash walking at the age of 4 months old. I put in hours of hard work and training daily to keep his training up to standards. Inertia doesn't even know how to sit on walks unless she has a 10 minute sniff and gets her barking fits out. Like, I get positive reinforcement is great for dogs but they need discipline otherwise they end up like Inertia. I've noticed, Inertia never gets a correction on her harness (harnesses also teach dogs to pull) or a "no". Zak also doesn't make the commands very clear by saying "can you do a ___" "are you able to ____". Dogs understand best with 1 or 2 word commands, not full sentences. Scouts commands are "sit" (and then a good boy or yes) "down" "leave it" etc. Zak needs to just put in the smallest amount of discipline into Inertias training and he would see an instant change in her. I don't mean correcting her for everything she does or yelling at her but I would suggest walking her on a collar instead of harness and do small corrections for when she pulls ahead and walk in the other direction too. Then when you establish a loose leash walk, reward her for not pulling. Every single dog needs discipline and boundaries. Inertia doesn't know what right from wrong is because she doesn't have rules. If she pulls, Zak lets her pull. If she barks, Zak lets her bark. And when Inertia was a puppy, Zak should've curbed these behaviours straight away

I love your videos! I've been using your videos to help me as a first time dog owner with my now 14 week old puppy. I am interested in seeing videos about how to re enforce good indoor behavior to become more trusting with my puppy. (So far, I've learned a puppy can never be trusted. No matter how cute they are.) I have an issue with my puppy wondering the house. I use a 8ft line to keep her in my sight and prevent accidents. She pulls on the line constantly durring this. she doesnt have accidents with me and generally well behaved. Consistancy with my husband had been tough because he feels the crate and in house line isnt nice. But she almost always backtracks with him in terms of potty training and chewing due to this. He grew up with older dogs that were trained by his parents and generally gets very frustrated when our puppy cant follow basic house rules. ( I've sent him so many of your videos but I dont think hes watched them... tips on training a spouse would be nice). How often should be allow her to wonder ( while watched)? how long is it okay to let her leave her out of the crate( how much crate time is too much)? Should we be letting her explore the house while on a line? Thank you for all your tips for dog training. I would be so lost without your videos.

Hey Zak, here's a game for you. You need a throwing stick and a tennis-ball. Between throws I like to let my dog get the ball while I move it around. The more eager the dog is to get it, the better. This is my favorite game because it's kind of a dance and Marley can win on her own. In fact; every game ends with her winning, the trick is to keep her from winning as long as possible. She developed tactics, and I had to learn to counter those tactics, and she then learned to anticipate the counters, so it's a very multi-dimensional game. It's also a fantastic work-out. I'd love to see you try it out.

Inertia is so cute and she is getting so big! I love your videos. Also, I thought I'd tell you that at 2:03 ish the reason she came was because you said "here". She may have just messed up but if she comes to "come" and "here" then that might be why. I don't know why I just wanted to tell you! Have a great day!! Also, no book plug? No Pet Flow? Are you alright Zak?

I got reccomended to use a Prong collar by a pro trainer. my dog is about 8-9 months and is border collie and husky and doesnt like to listen outside but knows commands very well inside including stay and heel and down. He doesnt listen at all outside and will not eat treats outside no matter how long i acclimate him to the new area and smells. What would you reccomend I do instead of the prong collar.
@AnoraJohnson
@AnoraJohnson 3 жыл бұрын
Fyi, a prong collar doesn't need to be used punitively. It can be used like a flat collar for communication. Small leash movements let the dog know what you are asking. If the collar is fitted and positioned properly, leash movement can be more gentle than other collars. Used this way the collar doesn't inflict pain or discomfort. (I'm not talking about giving collar corrections. I'm talking about nudges. Slow down, turn, let's go, etc) Do what's right for you and your dog.

@@AnoraJohnson thank you , I've gone to many professionals and have spent 100s of hours training since writing that and learned how to use prong and e collars now luckily, I really appreciate your in depth reply :) . A long with other dogs beyond my own using his^ videos and a ton of others who use tools like the prong. I always try to tell people now exactly what you told me!!!

I use a prong collar and it’s changed everything. I had one before but I lost it and omg my dog was a complete wreck when we didn’t have jt because there wasn’t good communication. Now we can do stays out of sight, heel, down, stay, and wait to say hi and to not jump. Leave it skill has also been greatly increased since I had my first prong before I lost it.

Sorry to be "that person" But that's horrible and you are abusing your dog
@clifford2123
@clifford2123 4 жыл бұрын
OceanPaws 04 actually the prong collar is not abuse because when fitted properly(like mine is) it actually mimics a mother correcting the dog. The ONLY reason why people think that’s inhumane and abuse is because all you see anymore is the people that keep it on their dog 24/7, have it fit way to big, and are using it extremely improperly so then you see the pictures of puncture wounds all around the dog’s neck. The prongs are not sharp and evenly distribute pressure around the neck at the base of the skull where it applies the most effective correction. The collar should not be dangling like a necklace and you should be able to stick your fingers in between the collar and the neck. The harness encourages pulling, and the flat collar applies pressure only on the trachea and causes damage(but nobody hears about that stuff). It’s the tool that works best for myself and my dog to navigate the world safely.
@katk7505
@katk7505 4 жыл бұрын
@@clifford2123 using a prong loose and low actually makes the correction more soft, doesn't cause damage. I can't imagine how hard you'd have to use a loose prong to cause damage. Its what i do most the time nowadays along with hooking on both the dead&live rings because my dog doesn't really need the pinch action anymore, but even small pops with flat collars make him gag a ton so i still don't use one even though he really doesn't need the pinching action anymore. Just use a loose medium prong to keep him from gagging, bout as soft as i can get with him actually, because the flat collar making him gag with little pops is obviously worse. Martingale collars also make him gag, and rapidly break his coat off so i don't use those. The only way you're going to get puncture wounds on a dog with a prong collar is if you're using a small one on an extremely large dog that consistently pulls extremely hard despite wearing a prong, or are correcting a large dog with a small prong hard enough to literally lift a 100lb+ dog off its feet, which is obviously abusive and completely unnecessary. Leaving them on way too long can also cause irritation and eventually wounds but that's obviously not caused by corrections.

I notice people sometimes react to seeing a prong on a dog. It's helpful to understand that tools can be used in different ways. A prong collar doesn't need to be used punitively. It can be used like a flat collar for communication. Small leash movements let the dog know what you are asking. If the collar is fitted and positioned properly, leash movement can be more gentle than other collars. Used this way the collar doesn't inflict pain or discomfort. I personally don't like to give collar corrections. I use a collar for nudges. (Slow down, turn, let's go, etc) Do what's right for you and your dog.

My dog Luna has a few really bad behaviours that I need to figure out! 🤯 ...She gets way too excited when people are at the door, walking past our property fence line, and when we're on a walk and see another human/dog. 😩 The common reaction is overexcitement and I get that the behaviour I require from her is a sit, stay, or come but... she just doesn't listen. If I have chicken or something amazing as a reward, and her focus is on the person walking by, my "come" will be ignored because the person walking by is far more appealing. It's all hard work & patience so hopefully we'll get there.

I have an issue where my dog does decent with sit and stay, but she will show her frustration with barking/crying when her stay is preventing her from seeing a distraction she is really interested in (another dog, someone at the door etc.). If I try to wait for her to stop barking/crying, she usually gets louder and more intense. If I just keep waiting, she will eventually lose interest and break the sit. I haven't figured out how to correct this. I want to reward the stay but do not want to reward the barking/crying.

My problem is that my dog knows what we are asking him and still doesn’t do it. He doesn’t really like to do tricks randomly. The main problems we have with him is he licks the dishes in the dishwasher and we can’t get him to stop even when we give his leave it command. Even if we can physically remove him he always comes back or barks like crazy until he can.
