Something You need to know about me is that I have a secret love of mechanical workings! In a different life, I would have chosen three different jobs potentially… One of them would have been a diesel mechanic. ( you have to watch to learn the other two)
I am so jealous of the understanding and know how of mechanics. Follow along as we tear into this Detroit series 60 engine to rebuild it from the ground up!

This is what its all about, friends helping friends. Jim shows how much this is second nature to him with the quick & efficient tear down. Really cool to find the engine was a virgin. the old 8V71 screamers used to get about 300K before they went sideways, but I still love them. The best engine to turn diesel fuel into noise. Be kind to us & show us the inside of the liners please. Thanks for sharing

might seem like a fool suggesting a merch idea and my budget really can't swing it..... but I see a collab hoodie with cox Deisel name on the front like his shirt with the veteran on the sleeve but on the back.... the Kenworth and wild w west. tactical lettering but cowboyish west barb wire and Kenworth and a cow mixed in. if it works out and sells good think of me.... id take a 4x hoodie.

my favorite motors, one of the easiest to work on. i changed a turbo on one out in middle of mountains by rogers pass one night arond 3 am. changed a broken oil pan on a 379 pete in a snow storm out in middle of the prarries on a oil lease, i have no idea how many starters i R &R ed on one in all sorts of places. dropped a set of cam bearings into one, with a new cam. worst of worst was a water pump down at the boarder at sweetgrass one night. got my ass chewed cause the antifreeze puddle. but was not my fault the truck sat leakin for a day before i got there. doing a front timing cover inner gasket on one was worst job i did to a ol series 60. only say one thing glad i donot do it any more. now if i ever change a starter on one it will be more than i wanna do. if i get to, I gonna send ya a box. think you will find use of what i have in mind of sending you. did you get a new grain trailer and cattle pot?

I'm not a trucker. However, if you want to do something good for the newly built engine, then invest in a parking heater (Webasto) with a timer that preheats the cooling water. They use the timer to set when they need the truck. They then arrive at a truck with the engine preheated. This increases the service life of the engine and minimizes its wear and tear costs. Unfortunately, I don't know whether a "Green APU" also preheats the engine. But it would also be a good investment for your business.

O rings are now made out of co polymers and shrink or dry out enough that they look good but they allow oil.deisa gas or other liquids or fuel by products like exhaust The same is true with air conditioners by turning air conditioners house models or vehicle models there's oil added to what gass they use in each unit

Not many guys could set up the rack on a two stroke like the old man who taught me how to do it, almost an art to doing right. The only way that engine could have that much blowby is if they put undersized pistons in the cylinders, and I doubt that very much. Just too many miles on it for sure. 750 sounds about right, I was lucky to get 550-600 thousand out of mine but I drove them hard and all out from day one after the break in period. That one soundtrack reminded me of Canned Heat back in the day. Time to pull the crank with the cam and send them off to get turned so after you put front and rear seals in it that thing will be ready for rebuild time. But I would reseal everything on the front of that engine as well with new gaskets, just so all the engine components have been gone through and rebuilt down to the water pump as well as oil pump. So that way your starting over with a new engine from to back. do ti a few times it just becomes second nature to us.

Jax it all comes down to work ethic we have it but most don’t care in my mind I buy a kit with X amount of stuff I should get X amount of stuff not W and not Y the roper stuff cause I pre buy parts months even years in advance to doing a project cause I change everything I make it new I refuse to buy new anything it spreads the cost out I buy when money is plentiful and when it’s slow I fix I put a bypass centrifuge oil filter on my 7.3 liter and I had it sitting on a shelf for 6-9 months and a weird shouldered bolt was missing from the filter kit the company I bought it from eventually sent me the bolt but it’s a pain to explain why it’s been so long I did film opening kit as to show the seal to the box being broken my point being we shouldn’t have to do that it should be there sorry got rambling BigJon
