Hi! It's been a few weeks and I am still OBSESSED with this Elfa pantry. It's staying organized! I moved the cleaning supplies to the laundry room and the kids crafts went in our craft room. OUr bread, cereal and breakfast foods have a spot in our kitchen that works, so our new pantry is just for dry goods and snacks. It's working better than I ever could have hoped. Seriously, if you need more storage, Elfa is the way to go!

Cass, that looks beautiful! You make it look so easy, love your ideas. I'm also decanting & organizing my pantry. I like This Crazy Life's suggestion on having a rack on the door that holds all the canned foods, but I can't get myself to put all the pasta in one container. My inner crazy screams, how will you know how much one pkg is now that you've mixed in ALL the pkgs?!?

Eat the quinoa, Cass! It's yummy, you just have to find your recipe. I'm obsessed with it. My favorite quinoa salad has cucumber, red onion, basil, feta cheese, red wine vinegar and lemon juice. Search for recipes, I'm sure you can find something that sounds good. And it only takes 1 minute to cook quinoa in the instant pot!

However, we also built some shelf things 4 behind each couch featured on Do It On A Dime's channel. I added a lower shelf (near bottom outta sight) on one for those attachments, & wish I would've added shelves to all the ones I built... LOL! Hope that gives you an idea or help...

@LivetolearnMama
@LivetolearnMama 2 жыл бұрын
@@ashleighthornbrue1028 I've never eaten it without adding some sort of seasoning. I also toast it in a little bit of oil for a bit until it starts crackling and popping, and then add the seasoning and water. (I like using taco seasoning the most, but it's also really good with other flavors, like garlic or thyme.) I would say that it tastes a bit nutty, but that could be from toasting it. I also usually add less water than it says to on the bag, so it isn't overly mushy. The flavor without seasoning is somewhat neutral, so I tend to go for a texture that I like and seasonings that I enjoy. :)

We put an Elfa system in our pantry when we built our house THIRTY-FOUR years ago! It is still there and we recently replaced a bottom basket. The most impressive thing to me is not only has it lasted so well all these years, but that the new basket fits the older frame. So many things you buy now won’t fit a year later!

I would love to see this system installed in small spaces. I live in a small urban home and there is no pantry except for the cheap pantry cupboard that I bought at the hardware store! Closets are scarce in my 80-year-old home so I have to invent the storage space before I can even start organizing.

The Elfa system is awesome. My craft room is two walls of Elfa brackets and custom shelves - my husband is a cabinet maker so he cut sheets of 3/4” melamine and edgebanded them custom lengths and depths. When we remodeled our house 3 years ago I had him rip out the built in shelving in my 5’ linen closet and replace it with an Elfa system too. What a difference to have shelves the depth I wanted them and also spaced height wise for what I store in there. Home Depot used to make a less expensive version of the Elfa system, but I don’t know if they still do. It wasn’t near as sturdy so I took everything back. No quinoa or chia seeds in my kitchen. Hubby hates quinoa.

Hi Cass. Love how your pantry turned out. That rolling cart system would also be awesome for a craft room. It looks much sturdier than those plastic rolling drawers that the craft supply stores sell. We downsized and moved into a smaller house about 3 years ago and we are slowly getting around to reorganizing spaces now that we know how we "really" live. Our pantry is quite small and was the cheap wire shelving. Things did not move nicely on them. So my husband bought inexpensive pine shelves which we brightened up with white paint. We looked at the height of the items we regularly buy and spaced the shelves accordingly. Since our cabinets are a non-standard size and also smaller, we also wanted to find some room to accommodate small appliances. It's not as pretty as yours but more functional than it was. I have become a decanter now because I was tired of boxes and bags of things and never knowing howmmuchmwss in them. Now we can tell at a glance how much we have and when to buy more. We went to a small split shelf for canned goods and we can store way more and have them in rows like a grocery store. Again for us we always can see what we have and find things. Now I am struggling with my much smaller craft room. Thanks so much for your organizing tips. Hope to see your show back soon. 😊

side note about that cart with drawers you put together - I bought one at Ikea for my daughter's dorm room "kitchen" set up. We put it next to her tall dorm refrigerator (the one with a freezer on top) and placed the microwave on top of the frig. You know food and a kitchen is important to every nutrition major student, lol.

I’m sure there are plenty of other ways to use them but they are awesome for creating a creamy dish. I actually discovered quinoa when my son was diagnosed with Celiac and I needed to find pasta alternatives. The quinoa pasta was actually quite good.

Cass you can totally cook quinoa, it takes like 1 minute in the instant pot with some veggie stock. I soak all my grains in water in the morning and they are ready for dinner time cooking. I have flax seeds instead of chia because I cant digest chia seeds, unfortunately. Flax is a great omega 3 source and helps get your omega 3:6 ratio going in the right direction. I used to be a fellow food teenager, in recovery now as my binge eating/sweet tooth got out of hand!

I maximized my space, and following your many examples, was able to make it functional and pretty! SO glad KZfaq showed me this video (It just showed up in my suggestions). I have Elfa in my laundry and my my kitchen. Mostly I have it because I didn't want to wait a few years for hubby to make shelves. But in New Zealand we tend to not have the choices that other people do because we are small. So while I have the shelves and brackets etc, I didn't even know about the shelf liners and strips to cover the holes or make the shelf fronts look solid. I don't need a cart because it's just on the wall above the bench. I will enquire about getting the extra bits here, but if I can't, at least those are the lighter bits that I could possibly get shipped from overseas.

Btw, I add Quinoa to lots of things, and Chia seeds. My favorite, when trying to get my kids to eat healthier, and still let them think they could have as much mashed potatoes as they wanted. I used one potato (so I wouldn’t be lying), then filled the pot with cauliflower, quinoa, turnips, anything white. When it was all cooked, I mashed it and they ate it and loved it. 😀

Quinua isn't weird, is awesome. I'm lactose intolerant and I don't really like nor can afford plant milk so I drink quinua with apple and other flohrs like maca, amaranth, maize and wheat (it is called seven flours in my country). You can also prepare soups and hot meals with quinua. I hate the taste when they use it in salads, unless it is in a poke bowl.

I love adding Chia seeds to my yogurt at breakfast! Great in muffins as well or even use in place of poppy seeds when making poppy seed bread.

Yes. I have a lot of quinoa in our pantry, but we eat it. We like the taste. It's kinda savory. I soak oats and chia seeds in water overnight. In the morning the water is absorbed. If I want the cereal hot, I pop it into the microwave, then add fruit and yogurt. I love it.

Quinoa and chia seeds are super foods that pack a powerful nutrition punch!! I put the chia seeds in soups, smoothies, and on salads. Quinoa can be used instead of spaghetti noodles or rice. Try it, Mikie!! I think you'll like it!!! Smiles...

Cute and functional pantry! We eat whole food plants based so I know a thing or two about quinoa and chia. Chia is high in omega 3 and can be added to smoothies. I mainly use quinoa in tabbouleh instead of the bulgur wheat (which I can't get in my small town anyway). I hope you try both of these!
