if you plan to spray the undercoat on use a REALLY wide spray nozzle. makes the job so much easier

When I did my E36 I used a wire wheel on the grinder to remove any cracked underseal or rust, treated any rusty areas with bilt hamber deox gel, epoxy primed those parts, scuffed up everything else then a final overcoat with U-Pol raptor (You can tint it to body color, it would look sick in boston green). It's a long and shit job but well worth it especially when the car's already stripped down.

Jack might not be loving the Focus but you showed with the Passat that you can take a fairly mundane daily and still make it sick. Chuck some rims and stuff on it, make another little 'Budget Daily' series out of it, keeping it cheap for his sake, and you could make much cooler without losing the practicality.

I’m actually a welder! Sounds like you had the wire speed to fast for the metal thickness or you were to far away from the metal! Weld towards you so you can do the wire placement, 45 degree angle of the tip, slow and stead does it use your dominant hand to weld and the other hand for support and just slide along the surface! Love you boq !! 😘

Just a tip when you use weld through primer when you weld wear a respirator as the zinc in the primer can create toxic gases usually white smoke

Clean shroud Clean tip (don’t want to feel the wire in the harness or torch head) Correct LPM of gas flow Clean workpiece Consistent distance from tip to work piece (around 10-12mm) Consistent with travel speed from arc start to finish. When you’re new to welding, whenever you alter your parameters always practice on scrap before. Do a good 4/5 runs, always want to find the travel speed and ensure the parameters are correct.

Just done the same rear subframe on my 46! Such a good feeling looking underneath and seeing loads of new stuff! Also can’t knock Jack’s focus, I used to have one and made it look what i thought was not bad at the time!

Mig welding is all about being comfortable and keeping the weld pool consistent, before commencing your weld run the torch over where you want to weld and make sure you can get from a point to where you want to be in one smooth and comfortable motion, hope this helps.

I wouldn’t. Most people do it badly and it’ll just rust between the factory sealant and the crap that gets put on top.

When re assembling, pop the new bushes in the freezer for an hour beforehand, will help with pressing them in 💪 keep up the great content boss!

Those pin holes in your welds is called porosity welding its when the gas gets trapped in the weld, it creates weak points in the welds, not good. If you grind it out and redo it in those areas is the only fix some people just weld over them. I think you would get better results from stick welding, especially for thick stuff

A quick tip for mig welding, I find doing little circles as you’re running the bead helps. Sometimes focusing on trying to be still and running a perfectly straight line can make you more wobbly, doing little circles let’s you just focus on doing circles. And it can look like little tig weld dimes once you get the hang of it

Little tip for when you're welding if you see loads of little holes in your welds (porosity) grind the weld out and redo it, if you want the weld to be strong. Loving the bm vids

Tip for undercoating: Make sure it goes on the bottom of the car. Nice to see more progress on the coupe, the barracuda Rick was in was brilliant. Cheers boys

Degrease all uderneath rust primer then underseal, done that on a 2006 mk2 focus st and still looking fresh now 4 years down the line

ICE blasting to remove the rust and crap, leaving a virgin surfaces to apply under undercoatings like zinc spray, wax oil or even raptor. Great content, keep up the good work !!

You need to experiment more with the settings of the machine. I think you might have both wire feed and power to high for that job. Always need to adopt to what you Are welding 😊 Cant wait for the parts to Get freshened up🔥🔥

Practice practice practice is all I can say on the welding front and mess about with wire speed to suit you (just not to slow for the power you got) they ain’t the prettiest welds but they’ll serve their purpose, but yeah practice is the main one get loads of scrap and put it in different shapes different thicknesses etc and stick it together! (Then give that as a giveaway at one of your meets as a trophy lol) Top vid though boys, oh and I did I mention practice

welder looked like it was set on to higher power and possibly to much wire speed, all welding is practice though keep up the good content 👍

Welder was set up with too little wire speed volts sounded good just turn the wire up a touch want it sounding like a your frying a egg and nice and smooth . A good technique is called weaving effectively 2steps forward 1 step back. Don’t rush either and the holes in the weld tend to be either oxygen overcoming the argon shielding gas or dirt on the steel just dig in with grinder then go over it. Wen it’s spluttering and making the gun bounce most likely be too far away, too much wire or a bad earth. And remember, “grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t”😂

Use Upol Gravitex undercoat stonechip to do the under side top quality stuff drys really nice and leaves a mint finish 👍👌

Try dropping the amps a bit on your welding machine, results in less spluttering and cleaner welds. Don't drop it too much, you still need it to penetrate the metal in order to weld properly.

strip underside to bear metal as best you can (get any old underseal off) then..... one coat primer one coat Corroless Glass Reinforced paint one coat Raptor Bed liner + Dynax S60 sprayed inside the sills & every cavity you can access

welding tip, slow as you can, dont rush. Youll get a feel for it and you know when youre going way too low. always push not pull. Get comfy.

I have the same welder as you on that sort of metal id be using no 4 on the voltage and between 3-4 on wire speed, if your right handed steady your right arm with your left hand then flow from one piece of metal to the other they look better than my first welds 😂

Get the upol weld thru primer it's a lot better also I'm welding 10 years now full time the welding is ok comes with time and u should watch some more video on welding on youtube or ask ur friend that did that nice bit of welding to watch the way u welding he will know what ur doing wrong other than that keep it up class project

Push the weld pool as your welding with the mig so that your gas is always covering your weld also the more you grind back the weaker your weld so try keep the polishing pads to a minimum

Use tetraschutz with an air compressor and the gun u can get for it, it dries in a few hours and gives decent coverage and lasts forever and it aint megabux

You will need to put kurust on any rust you can spot before you're ready to prime & under seal to stop it rusting it's proven to stop any further spread of rust. It's the one in the white plastic tub by hammerite 🤟

Personally I wouldn’t undercoat. I’d wipe it all down with Acetone then spray it with Nyalic Leaves a better finish than the thick under seal shite

the only way to get better at welding is by welding. do it as much as possible and you'll get better with experience. Use any advice you can to get the welder sorted out ( IPM etc) and then go from there.
