My EASIEST Thailand Visa Run | Chiang Mai to Laos

Looking to do a Thailand visa run? Check out how we completed our Thailand border run from Chiang Mai to Laos.
We hired a private driver through Sea Fan Car Rental for 4,000 baht. It's about 4 hours to the border so you should plan on this taking 1 full day. You'll need 50 baht total for the shuttle buses across the border as well as $40 USD or 1,800 baht for the Laos visa on arrival (if you have a US passport).
There are plenty of Chiang Mai visa run companies that will take you to the border and back, but at 1,890 baht per person, it just made more sense for the two of us to hire a private driver, determine the time of leaving and stops, and just have more space in the vehicle.

There's going to be money involved in any kind of visa run you do out of Thailand whether it involves flights + hotels, or busses / ferries / boats. I decided my money was best spent getting it done in one day.

Not to nitpick but some people might understand you wrong. You're doing a border run/border bounce. Visa run is when you go to a nearby country embassy and make an actual visa, you are given a visa exempt.

You are correct. However, I feel that most people group these into the same category and don't some hairs over the technicality.

a renew is near 2000 baht what's a point of doing this, additionally you waste time and paying for laos visa, you end up paying 4x the price compared to a renew. genuinely curious

You can only renew visa exempt once which I had already done as I had already been in the country for 60 days. Since I wasn't ready to be done with Thailand, I needed a new visa so I did a border bounce.

@@uniquetraveladventuresHi, thank you for the information! Do you know if you can do a renew for a VOA? We will be entering with a VOA (although we thought we would have an e-visa - that we didn't get 😢 - long story) but we need an additional visa for another 14 or 15 days. Thanks
