Hello everyone,
Welcome to The Creative Cove. My name is Michele and I am the creator behind this channel.
Today’s video is a last minute one that I decided to film when I came across some free flowers. I usually do my eco dying in the summer and on the bbq but luck had it that I came across some materials and thought let’s try. You will see in the video that there are some success and some failures but that’s what I love most about eco printing. You will always get a beautiful surprise. I hope this inspires you to give it a try. It’s not at all intimidating and you can have fun experimenting with whatever you have at home. You can use lots of different things like onion skin and avocado skin, rusty bits. You an also use other mordants like vinegar, iron water
* I am using alum powder as a mordant.
Happy crafting!

I live in Vancouver and walk my dog and collect plants to print. Ones I've found work the best are rose leaves, smoke bush tree leaves, ravens wing/cow Parsley, and winter health bush. Adding iron to the pot will help plants like fern leave an outline of the leaf. If I'm doing prints on paper I spray the each paper with alum water before placing plants on them :)

I’m now thinking about what I have in my beds and garden that will be blooming this summer and what I can forage along the creek to play with! TY for the inspiration!

We are getting spring flowers here in Tennessee USA and I have some left over fabric from another project. Am going to try this. Loved this experiment. Keep it up. You are inspiring.

Fab demonstration! I tried eco-dyeing last year and results were (sadly) pretty faded and quite poor - I was going to scrap them - but I decided to try drawing outlines of the flowers and leaves over the top (after learning to draw from you!) with black fine liner pen and they ended up being much better. This may help someone else who doesn't get as good results as they hoped. Thanks for taking the time to show us.

What a fun video! I just loved guessing what the flowers would leave as prints (and was wrong each time 😆). - Perhaps you could even have left the fabric alone a little bit longer. I have never done eco printing but dyeing with natural substances. As fabric does not desintegrade or stick together permanently like paper, there is no harm in letting it dry (more or less) until you take your bundles apart. That might lead to sharper edges and darker colours. 🌿

Michele, this is a fantastic video! I love your experiments and the anticipation of you unwrapping each little packet was in cool way, a very suspenseful process :) haha....seriously, your papers turned out beautifully. They will make lovely little gift cards to write, sketch, or paint on. Thank you for taking the time to show us your process.

I think all your papers were successful and interesting. You made this process seem easy and I’m encouraged to try it now. I did wonder though how long you soaked the papers in that alum and water bath?

This was a fabulous video! They turned out beautiful even though not exactly as you had hoped. How long (total) did you leave the WC paper in the alum? Thank you for sharing!! 💜

What if you had taken a photo of the fabric before you took the flowers off. Wouldn’t that be a great digital?
