19:28 (the acer) you need to take a few good inches of the top of that soil and get some good compost or well rotted organic material in there and a few good handfuls of slow release plant food too. Erm..Maybe you might need to repot it, quite possibly, but this would definitely be a great short term boost for the acer! And you would definitely notice vast improvements - fast..and vast ha! 😊
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Nicola - yes you are right. I've been reticent to take off a few inches because it's pure root - but maybe it would be worth doing so and hope the acer doesn't notice 😀. Maybe I'll try and find an even bigger pot - as you say that would be the best solution.

Hi Yvonne, great to hear from you. I'm pleased you enjoyed the lily beetle segment - I try to look on the bright side - doesn't always work! The watering was difficult in April/May but now we've had plenty - the water butts keep getting topped up. It was a bit extreme last week but generally the weather is quite temperate. All the best to you - let me know when your first signs of Spring arrive!

Holy cow! I truly don’t know how you’re pulling these masterpieces out of your property...mind blowing. 🙏🏽 Definitely Phlox, but I’m no gardener. “Vera” bit was funny. I have a 7-yr old blueberry bush out front...at least 1K berries on it...just barely starting to turn in color, so the net was reinstalled. Funny bit about the bugs getting down and dirty...funny audio adds. 😂 Pergola looks great...bummer about the need to repaint. I too take care of our letter carrier...Don Grandmaisson. Great work with saving and reincorporating the previous footage. 1 tip: slide the Lift down on the footage from the newer camera to match the saved footage...use your eyes, not the scopes. 👍🏼 Well done Paul! Thank you for the tour!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Hi Mr.Paul just have question - how can you start lace up from cutting. Thank you very much I really love your garden
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Khay, take a cutting about 6 inches long - preferably one that looks strong without a flower. Remove the lower leaves - leaving just two leaves near the top. Reduce the top leaves by about half if they look large. (ie cut half off) Cut the bottom of the cutting off just under where the lower leaves were. Put in a small pot - preferably a terracotta one. Use normal compost. You could place a few cuttings round the edge of the pot. Water it gently and leave in shade. Don’t let it dry out. Good luck. It’s very satisfying when they “take”

@paultsworld

That’s a really good question! I think I have a December video which shows what it looks like then - but the first frost has only just happened by then so it’s like a long Autumn till then. January & February are the real Winter months. Days very short - dark by 3.30. Clearing up and maintaining trees etc. preparing beds for Spring. Plants can be planted during the Winter as my sandy soil doesn’t freeze. By March Spring flowers are flowering, so the cycle resumes.

Hello Paul, First of all, can I say what a lovely garden you have !! The clematis you have in the pots can I ask how and when do you water and feed them because I have similar pots and clematis but I must be doing something wrong as mine keep getting mildew I cannot seem to get the watering right. I have subscribed to your channel as you have great content and a lovely calming voice.
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Welcome to my channel Joanna and thank you for your lovely comment. I put a whole watering can over each clematis once a week so the whole lot is soaked and water is draining out of the bottom. In the Spring I take off the top 4 or 5 inches of soil and replace with manure or my own compost. These clematis are montanas and generally don't suffer with mildew. Which type are yours?

@@paultsworld I have two one I have no idea what the name is the other is "Duchess of Edinburgh" I think I might not be watering properly I forget for a couple of weeks then give about 1/4 of a can of water then maybe a week or so later and so on. What about a feed or does the manure feed them ?
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Manure is a great feed - I suppose the mantra "feed the soil" rather than the plants is a good maxim; however I will use bone meal and chicken pellets. Mildew can be a sign of under watering and clematis do like a lot of water - I tend to really drown my plants and then let them dry out for a week or so. Duchess of Edinburgh is lovely - I find those beautiful, early clematis difficult to grow in my garden for some reason.

Great informative vlog Paul. I wonder if you're bill Mackenzie is the same as my little lemons? Unless mine is a dwarf version. I'd like to ask why you have chicken wire at the base of your lace cap?
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
I had a look at little lemons and the flower heads look identical - I think you're right Carolina - little lemons is the dwarf version. Ha, the chicken wire - one word: blackbirds! They dive into everything I water because they reckon moist soil is where the worms are, so they dig around and throw the compost out - goes all over the patio. Good job they can sing for their supper. 😄. Makes it difficult for me to mulch the beds - the blackbirds spend all their time throwing it onto the lawn.

I'll see if I can find a picture - not sure if I've photographed them. Most churchyards in England have a yew tree - we only count them as 'ancient' when they are older than 900 years. There's one in Crowhurst, Surrey (south of England) that is thought to be 4,000 years old. Google: 'Crowhurst Yew, Surrey' as it's got quite a story.
