Good morning Paul I'm new to your channel. What a beautiful garden. I too am trying to plant for wildlife. If you want more mahonias, just chop the top off after flowering and trim the leaves to half, pot it up and in no time at all, you will have a new free plant. Thanks for sharing 😀👍

Although that this video is posted two years ago, it is still a joy to watch🥰 This is my second gardening year and so far may has been my favourite so far to. Everything bursts out into life in nature. Fresh green leaves and early flowers popping up everywhere🥰🌿🌸🌺 Love the song of the birds, sadly I don't have a garden big enough to house some nice, native trees for them. But small/big shrubs and climbers can have a big impact to👍🏻🌿

Hi Paul! Here I am, as promised. :P Really great work! I loved the PIP with the combos of video and stills! So awesome that you saved these to show how they are when in full bloom. Mystery solved as far as my misidentification on the "Dogwood"...you showed the same plant I have twice...Weigela. AND, mine flowers exactly the same as yours...not too many flowers left on it now though. Great share! Excellent edit and commentary!! EDIT: so funny with the phone going off. :P

nate Hi Nate, Thank you for your comment - isn’t that brilliant our weigelas are performing in tandem and yet so far apart and in different climates.so if yours is finished flowering you can cut it back. No finesse - just cut it back by a third all round and you scan enjoy even more blooms next year! I’ll make a gardener out of you Nate! All the best my friend. That phone! 🇬🇧 I've had the saw fly for many years but this year I don't seem to have it. Maybe it's the hot weather but I did have something like tiny black caterpillars on my Eunymous Alata which has eaten leaves and woven fine white pockets all over the Bush so I sprayed it with a solution of washing up liquid. Disposed of the critters but the bush looks a mess. Then have totally decimated some trees on the bypass they look white and ghostly with just the white pockets all over. Thank you for showing us your beautiful garden. It would be lovely to sit in now with a cold drink. Nickname Flea Bane. Grows in every little path join in my garden. I love it.

Your garden is absolutely wonderful. I could live there and sleep outside in such a wonderful paradise. Achillea Mollis (I live in the humid southeast USA) and she hates drought. She is not drought-tolerant at all. We had a year when we were both ill and she got little care and died. I have purchased another, now 2 years old, and it has to be watered frequently if there is little rain.

Thank you Jean and welcome to my garden. Also thank you for the warning on the Virginia Creeper, luckily the one up my shed is a Chinese Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus henryana) which is quite gentle in its growing habits. The other one we have in Britain is the vigorous one (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). I look forward to seeing more of your garden!

Paul, all I can say is move over Monty Don 😉 the apple tree holds the most enchantment for me, and that Lilac in bloom was magical... Honeysuckles vines grow rampant here, but their fragrance so seductive especially as the sun sets after a warm day. The Hydrangea leaves turning red is most probably too much sun....they may be tanning LOL...But seriously you have created a verdant tranquil sanctum that entices wildlife to come and lives their lives in utter contentment...and yes the audio is wonderful filled with song birds tweeting happily....another wonderful video 😍

Thank you for showing us the beauty of your garden, Mr T.! I have got three lilac bushes (white, pink and dark purple), the purple one is at least 50 years old, no idea what the name of it is. It is very big and still going strong and smells amazing. We have to fight with our Virginia creeper, it's extremely invasive. The only sparrow in the street, which nests in my front wall, seems to have lost its chicks but "my" swifts arrived two days ago, it makes my heart sing ;-)

Great to hear from you. You've got some impressive lilacs - I wish they flowered for longer. We love virginia creeper in England, particularly on stately homes and castles. - don't know if I'd it on my house though. Have you seen my Wales video? I feature Penrhyn castle which has beautiful red virginia creeper in Autumn. Does look magnificent. Sparrows getting scarcer here in England (and starlings) but there is still a colony in my hedge so I'm very happy about that. How great you've got swifts - one of my favourite birds. Ultimate flyers! I had house martins nesting under the eaves in my old house - but now I get swifts wheeling about the skies over the house, screeching loudly. You must be so pleased to see them safely back from their African Winter holiday. It's great to hear you love and appreciate nature.

@@paultsworld The v.creeper in your video does look stunning! I do not have it on the walls but it's been trying to invade the garden for years so I have to keep an eye on it. The local sparrow population, in comparison to what I remember from a few decades ago, is practically non-existent but I've read that the figures are slowly picking up again in central Europe. The current nesting situation is my garden is as follows: two starling families plus a homeless starling couple desperately trying to move into one of the boxes for swifts, one family of great tits and one of blue ones, one swift family (possibly two). Last but not least, I've just heard an oriole, I haven't heard it here for years! I hope it's nesting in the nearby park. Cheers!
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
pertelote 45 An oriole - now that is super exotic for us. I’m pleased your sparrows are recovering , they are a bird (along with starlings) of my childhood. I hadn’t had a starling in the garden for over a year, then today I noticed two come down for the fat in a coconut hanging from the apple tree. They we’re taking it away so they have chicks. I managed to get some video of them. We have lots of house martins in England nesting under the eaves of houses, swallows in barns, sheds etc but I’ve never seen a swift nesting. Thank you for detailing what’s happening in your garden - it’s so interesting to hear. The nestbox you saw in my last video was there for the sparrows as they like to nest communally. But blue tits have decided they want it and the sparrows are nesting in the beech hedge. A Robin nested last year in my shed as a piece of the door had broken off. What a great time of year. All the best, Paul

Hi Tim, I am so pleased you’ve enjoyed my videos and thank you for letting me know. I bought the pear trees from a very small local nursery, so I never knew the rootstock. The trees were cheap and roots dodgy but I made sure they would help each other on the pollination front. Sorry to hear about the frost damage - they do blossom while frosts are still likely. Do they have any small pears forming? Thanks again for the encouragement - I have a number of videos planned and am looking forward to the garden progressing through the year. Cheers, Paul

Paul T's World Paul , hi Many thanks for coming back to me. The pear tree I have is a new variety that is self-pollinating, but it would appear that all the flowers have died and fallen off, so it doesn’t look as if I will be getting any fruit this year unfortunately. It might not be frost damage, but time will tell, although I did wrap it in fleece over the winter so perhaps I just removed that too early...I’m pretty new to fruit planting, so I’m learning all the time. On a completely separate note, I see you are a photographer, and I wondered if you might be able to answer a simple technical question about audio if you don’t mind and if you have an email to address it to? I don’t want to clutter this space up for you. I am eagerly anticipating more lovely videos. Take care and all the very best Tim
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Tim, there is a chance if the pear tree is very young it might have shed the possibility of fruit for this year. Some people advise taking the fruit off anyway for the first year or two to make sure the tree puts all its energy into root development - just a thought and grasping at straws. I’d be delighted to help if I can on the audio - just ask here or shoot me an email

Let me know how your rowan responds. I have a second one that looks very thin - it produces plenty of berries but isn't as 'full' as the one I featured.
