I am the same way with my Johanna and Kerby books. I have almost all of Johanna's books but have barely colored in them. And as far as Kerby goes I only owned Mythomorphia for the longest time. I did one page in it and left it in on the shelf. And not because I don't like his work but because I am afraid to ruin his pages. I just recently was brave enough to purchase several of his books and actually colored a page in Fragile World as soon as I got it. I had been eyeing it forever, love every single page in it, but never had the courage to pick it up. I am so glad I did though. It sent me on a shopping spree for his books. 😄 I haven't picked up Alien Worlds yet, it's not really my cup of tea, but started thinking maybe I would grab it and I could practice my watercolor and Neocolor in it. And then if I mess up I wouldn't care. 😆 I set some coloring goals this year and one of them was to work in my Johanna books. I love her books, and to be honest I really don't know why I haven't picked them up. I recently did a page in Rooms Of Wonder and absolutely loved it. So this year I will be working in Kerby and Johanna, along with a few other artists I have put off coloring in - and I have put off coloring in them mostly due to fear of ruining my books. Which is just quite silly. 😚 Your page in Lost Ocean with the black/dark blue background is absolutely gorgeous! It has inspired me to dig this book out and look to see if anything interests me. It was fun to see your books and hear about your coloring story. Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are no coloring police coming for me if I don’t do a background or finish a page😂. I think we need to be easier on ourselves about many things.

Hi Jordy, I have all the Johanna Basford books and I have never done backgrounds in any of her books. I just colour the picture and May colour a little background area close or within the picture ( like the middle of Mandala’s or wallpaper pages. I love your monochromatic mandala, beautiful. I never burnish my colouring pages as I do not like the shiny plastic look it gives to the page and I enjoy and like my colouring so much more doing my own style instead of following other artists. I do enjoy watching what others do, but then I incorporate it into my style of colouring. I hope this helps you to find your own style and just do you. I only have Magical Jungle by Joanna Basford, because...yes her books intimidate me😅. I am actually getting better with Kerby Rosanes, our buddy colors have been getting me more excited to work in his books.

I did a double page spread in Enchanted Forest last year with a gradient background as well that didn’t end up working out the way I wanted it to either. Oh well, there’s no way to change it now. On that note though, if you’re interested in getting back into coloring Enchanted Forest and looking for someone to buddy color with to get you going, let me know. It is one of my books to finish eventually.

You just need to start a kerby page. You can’t go wrong with them, they are so easy to color. They just “look” difficult. 😊😉
