This little capsule has made life with ADHD interesting over the past month. With ups, there are downs that cannot be avoided. Just because you medicate doesnt make you weak, it shows your are aware and taking the necessary steps to gain control of your illness/condition. Dont let something so small define you. It's there to help, not hinder. Never fold under the criticism of those who dont understand you. Let's be understanding and encouraging vs discouraging.

Wanted to give an update if that’s ok. I’ve been on Vyvanse now for about 2.5 months. It has worked the best so far for me. Coupled with OT( Occupational Therapy) techniques like keeping a schedule, trying to eat better and exercising regularly it is where I have found my balance. I’m also autistic which makes it challenging as the two are always battling one another (ASD vs ADHD). It also lets me know when certain approaches need to be readjusted. The most comforting thing is knowing I’m not alone. Others are going through similar situations. Having individuals raise awareness like yourself gives us all strength. We rise by lifting others up. Thank you for lifting me up indirectly when I needed it. Anyone out there that is struggling, know you don’t have to do it alone. Although our condition(s) don’t go away we can do away with the things that don’t work in our favor. The hardest part for me at times is still advocating for myself but I do it. It’s a better world than I already knew it was the moment I finally got to see the blades of grass. Cheers everyone and keep pushing on ☕️

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it’s not a one stop shop. Not all meds work for all people, and not everyone experiences the same side effects either. Adderall and Ritalin suppressed my appetite and gave me major insomnia something fierce, but I don’t experience either one of those symptoms with Vyvanse, even though 99% of people report those side effects. Overall, each person is different. Meds may work for some and not others, it really just depends. It’s a trial and error type treatment.

I study sports, exercise, i also have adhd, and we learn alot about energy and how to best to utilize it in different settings. My advice if your feeling tired is to look into the increased metabolism that stimulant medication gives you, which will change the composition of your intake and output. Anaerobic exercises will take more effort as the blood pressure, heat and lack of fuel effect you.

Before you take any medication, know why you're taking it. If you're looking for codependency, you will have different effects. It's all about the mind. I’m in the process of getting diagnosed for adhd (predominately inattentive type). I have a referral just have to call and make the appt. Anyway, there’s a very good chance your binge eating is because of your adhd. Or at least a huge contributor. I’ve been a binge eater most of my life. People with adhd produce less dopamine. We seek things that increase dopamine very quickly, immediate satisfaction. Delayed gratification is something most or all of us adhd-ers struggle with. I made a decision about a month and a half ago to change my ways. My binge eating. My body weight which is about 80 lbs or 36 kg too high. My testosterone levels which are probably way too low (getting tested for that too), among other hormones. I’m changing everything. I recommend lifestyle changes to support your dopamine levels. It could help with the Vyvanse. Omega 3 with high epa can be very helpful.

I have been on Elvanse (the UK version of Vyvanse) for just over a year now. In my early stages, I didn't deal with nausea but I did deal with extreme paranoia and intrusive thoughts. It was horrible. As I adjusted, these symptoms stopped. I was overweight before, was addicted to food and this really helped my addiction. A weight has been lifted and this medication makes independent living possible. The only thing I really hate about Elvanse is its dulling effect on my creativity. I get writer's block, my speech and articulation are impacted by this medication. I wish you the best, Jay.

Hi. I'm in my 1st month of taking Elvanse. I've noticed I grind my teeth more, bleeding gums and if I don't have a goodnight sleep I have like a nervous shake running through my body the next day. This has only been going on the past couple weeks. Other than that I'm fine with them. I hope it all subside.

Interesting. I still after taking it for many weeks get a lot of hyperfocus (can't easily stop doing an activity when doing it), lack of motivation to do stuff as I'm living alone, unless stimulated by others or something other than myself and for my own good/needs, possible difficulty passing stool, but other than that it's been amazing on 30mg. Been taking Paroxetin for depression and anxiety too but it's possible it hasn't made any positive difference on any dosages. More on Vyvanse: Anxiety reduced by a lot. Depression etc. much more rare. Appetite suppressant not as bad as at first. 2 nights in the beginning were sleepless. Now I sleep well. Take melatonin 1mg, 1h bf bed and get up at 7 instead of 13/1pm. Trying to be 100% without refined sugar permanently.

I've been taking Vyvanse for 3 years now the worst symptoms for me and I still have them to this day are nausea and I'm not sure why some days I don't have it but other days I do. Also I am irritable and get hotter than usual like flushed being out in the sun. Vyvanse has changed my life for the better but it's a love hate relationship. I hate the fact that I take them. ADHD isn't fun though and some days I break down over how frustrating it can be. Thanks for your input and being real. I realized that living by a strict schedule on how I treat my body and my mind helps. But I also am aware of what I'm putting in my body and how much sleep I do need without feeling those symptoms. Also what you said about the cotton ball feeling I only ever got that when I was on too high of a dose when I found the right dose for me that didn't bother me as much but I know exactly what you're talkin about. I was legit feel my upper lip sticking to my teeth LOL

I was dignosed as a kid and took ritalin until i was 12. I've been unmedicated for over a decade. Obviously this led to many issues over the years with quitting college and job hopping. im 27 now and finally got insurance so i decided to try medication again. Took it for less than 4 weeks on for 5 days and off on weekends. I started taking it (20mg) working night shifts at my job. The 30 minute drive was plenty of time to kick in and it lasted the full 8 hours. I had alot of issues with it. Here goes first thing i noticed was that it was much more difficult to interact with people and my tolerance for smalltalk was lowered. I had dry mouth and throat almost like i was choking. Loss of appetite didn't happen much past the first week. But I had difficulty focusing on thing up close like my eyes were crossed. I looked forward to the comedown for bowel movements though😂😂😂 that was my favorite part. Over the weeks i started to feel anxiety towards the comedown and serious almost inescapable depression and irritability throughout waking times as I would sleep until the evening when I would have to pick my wife up from her job. I was short with her and found it hard to change my facial expression or speak in anything other than monotone if at all with people. Im going to mention this to my doctor but definitely didn't like it. Stopped taking it a week ago to recover. The depression and anxiety and intrusive negative self perceptions are mostly gone but the withdrawal headaches were killer for like a day. I work on a machine so im constantly going back and forth with a new problem almost every day I love machine work so im pretty engaged and focused on production as a result. I don't think I needed it for work. But I do want to get my pilots license and It would be a waste of money if i can't sit down to study or get myself, my apartment, my life more organized. Which is why this test run was necessary. The whole reason I wanted to try it was to improve my life at home and be able to clean my apartment like a normal human. But not at the expense of being a half dead grumpy zombie around my wife with no energy to even talk.

Thanks for sharing Jay. I’m on vyvanse for binge eating (don’t have ADHD) and it really helps. Have been taking it about 3 weeks now. Total dose no more than 50mg/ day. However, I’m a fast metaboliser and it lasts 5 hrs at the most so I’ve been taking it twice a day but even with that I can’t get full day coverage so may try x 3 / day ( same total dose). I must say I’ve had some of my best sleep ever on this. Previously I suffered from insomnia but I sleep so well on this. BP has been an issue for me so I’ve been monitoring it at home and it’s now settled. I think I would be scared to work out on it though due to risk of increased BP and pulse rate. Oh and I agree my urine has been very dehydrated. I too don’t like the thought of having to take this but at the moment it outweighs my life binge eating so I will carry on.

I also feel the exact same way as you do. I’m a gym rat, it’s where I have always gone to cope with my racing mind, and channel all of this energy into lifting and pushing myself. I’m 1 week in with Vyvance. I’m 35 and it’s my first time agreeing to take something for my ADHD. I’m very into self exploration, breath work and meditation as well. The very odd thing for me is that I actually have started eating MORE? I’ve struggled with appetite since my 30s, so maybe this is settling my mind enough to focus on eating?? Sleep has been rough so far, and it isn’t a miracle drug that “makes” you get off your ass… that step is still all on me! Racy heart, anxious-like feeling, clammy hands… will this evolve/change/or balance out do you think? Anyway, thank you for the video man, it’s great to see another adult male be open and truthful about mental health and give an honest testimonial about a medication. 🔥🤙

I just quit vyvanse bc of the side effects you mentioned (not bc of you mentioning them - I couldn’t handle them anymore.) The excessive sweating, my heart raving for two straight hours, lost so much weight that people around me asked nervously if I was ok. Turns out I’m just not right for stimulant medications 🤷🏻‍♀️ so we’re about to start a non-stimulant. This has been a harder diagnosis than I expected.

I feel very concentrated, still get distracted very easily, but im able to think deeper and retain info better. No haze/foggyness like i had, and studying sessions today was more productive. I am anxious but its hard to tell if its the medication or the thought of expecting change/symptoms, none the less im anxious. Im very agitated for some reason, very jittery. Ill keep updating

Currently have been on Vyvanse for 6 weeks (started on 30mg and upped to 50 currently). I experience none of these side effects. I sleep fine, my bp is normal, resting HR is still my norm at sub 60, hitting the gym with normal gusto, but I also feel like the wanted effects are minimal. I worry that I’m going to end up on the top dose or find out that it just doesn’t work for me at all. This is my first ever ADHD medication so I really don’t have much to compare it to either. All this said, the first dose felt awesome (focused, happy) and then I had a 48 hour headache from hell. After that.. its been pretty chill tbh.. really hoping 60 brings that focus back because i don’t know if i have the patience for all these doctor visits
@joewillgo

Same here, I find the goal with the medication is to have some mild focus. Having no sides effects is usually a good sign that you are on the correct dose. (as long as you find yourself being able to focus to some mild degree) Like I can always tell the difference on my focus on the days I do take it, and the days I skip a dose.

I was diagnosed with adhd at 24. Now at 32 I decided to give adhd medication a shot. I tried Concerta name brand 18mg for a week and had to stop. I already have always had insomnia but with the Concerta I was awake the entire night and if I did by miracle manage to fall asleep I would have horrific nightmares. Then I also noticed increased anxiety and ED. So after a week I stopped taking it and that same night I did not have nightmares and the ED went away completely two days after. I feel like I wasted $413 to just get negative side effects as I did not notice any better focus. I actually felt more anxious and even even hungrier than I already always am on top of the nightmares and ED. Glad as soon as I got off it everything went back to normal as I was worried. I would like to try Vyvanse but not if it also causes ED or nightmares. Have you had any of those two problems? Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hey Jay, thanks for the honesty brother. I've just been diagnosed and have taken Vy 30mg for 5 days. It seems to allow me to focus for maybe 3 hours, then I feel a anxious and my hands sweat (which didn't happen on the regular). After an hour of that I feel back to my regular scatterbrain. How many mgs are you taking and does it last longer for you? Thanks!

Devo II begin with 30mg, it only lasted about 4 hours (for me) then I went to 50mg, lasted 5 hours, then 70mg is the best for me which is the max in the UK lasts me about 11 hours I’d say, and you said you get anxious on them and those are probably one of your side effects like for me it’s loss of appetite, sometimes feeling weak and bad insomnia etc. I would say if you feel better about taking more Vvyanse and you feel benefits from it I’d ask to go up to 50mg and even more 70mg if needed. My physiotherapist said the vvyanse I’d really good ask it smoothly enters the body’s system rather than Adderall just hitting you like a truck. I said so many things probably my ADHD is playing up lol at least that some sort of help lol

Huh, interesting. I really love hearing from others about their experience, because everyone reacts a little different, but more importantly, because I consider it "collecting and building knowledge". Example? I've been on Elvanse for some time now (dude, I have adhd, I'm happy if I know what *season* I'm currently in, so don't ask me for details, ok? 😂), and I've had several side effects like gum problems (because apparently I should drink more), or being shakey (super high doese of adrenalin) if I don't eat around taking the pill, or hair loss. But listening to you I only now realized that since I take it, not only did I stop craving sugar and binge eating - I also stop sweating. No joke. I have had problems using screens for literal weeks and had absolutely no idea why. I mean, being an overweigh female it was nice to finally not have to hide my armpits in very lose sleeves. But now that you said it made you sweat like whatnot, I can see that it might be the elvanse. 🤔🤔 /sigh Another thing on the list of "wait, I do/have that??"

Unfortunately my affair with vyvanse has come to an abrupt end after only 1 month. After taking only 40mg which I’d previously taken without any issues, my blood pressure sky rocketed to 168/103 which really scared me to the point of driving to the emergency room. It stayed high for several hours. I will never take this again. Makes me wonder though if the capsule contained the right dose.

Like you pretty much get exhausted. I’m a black woman so honestly mental health is not really talked about in black families. They usually think you’re acting out or just won’t address it. So naturally you fight your whole life without the help you need until you take it upon yourself to reach out. And that’s where I am now. I’m 28 and started taking Vyvanse for ADHD and BED and this is week two. Everything he said is exactly my experience. You can’t rely on the pill only you have to want to be better as well. I journal and I also go to therapy once a week. Do what works best for you.

It's quite rare to feel sleepy, but ADHD medication can slow the brain down. This can lead to a calm mind and body, but for some it just leads to being tired. If the dose is too low or too high you could feel sleepy.
