Tally Harris Did you have to open a credit card for discount? Or is it a pre paid card how does it work if you have bad credit. I just got a job there thanks!

I had no idea the draw system was used here. Thank you for sharing your story. I was offered a job once in interiors that paid via draw. Had no clue what that meant. Well, thankful for glassdoor because I was like omg no way. Im def going to be mindful shopping here from now on.

This was really helpful since I got a job offer from them recently. I was wondering how the employee discounts work. How much is it (I’ve herd 40% off full priced and 25% off sales) and can I use it on high end brands like fendi and Chanel (at other saks locations as well) ? Thank you

Congratulations on the job offer! 😊 To be honest I don't remember much about the discounts, but I know the amount is different for each product category. I think it's around 25% off most stuff and then like 10% off beauty and shoes. If I'm remembering correctly you can use your discount on the high end boutique brands, but I think again it's like only 10% or so. I'm sorry, I'm pretty fuzzy on the specifics! But I don't remember it being anything too spectacular haha

Does that employee discount include the brand Louis Vuitton? So when you work at Saks, you also can get 25% of when you buy Louis Vuitton?

I have not visited Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC for a while. I am always happy to look at things that I can never afford. The makeup station looks as if there are only models working there. The men look just as good as the women do. The job selection and interviews must be pretty tough.

@@jenyc Thanks a lot :) I live in South Korea so I've never been there yet. But I can place orders through their website so I use it a lot. Recently I bought three of restocked jackets. The problem is all of them were defective in my opinion. For example without tag, detached neck tag by forced, scratches, loss of components(button kind of things). My question is if I file a complaint for those, would I be the one who too sensitive?

On 9/3/22 I went to Saksand when I walked in I said the energy was so different the sales associates were like sharks hawks breathing down your neck you walk right into the department and I don’t know what I want just yet can I please look it’s so uncomfortable being attacked to me in that way. You definitely can tell it’s that type of environment where they backstab you.

In stores w/ just normal regular pay & ur followed around being asked if ur okay. Just be nice even if it’s annoying. & don’t think it’s Bc they’re “suspicious” of u. It’s honestly Bc if we didn’t, we’d get in trouble or talked to @ the very least. Even if u say “I did greet them!”. Managers will reply, “yeah. Only once!” So yea, try & understand those in customer service. U don’t always know what happens to that employee bts & after u leave… 😓

what draws people in to apply at a place with such a horrible pay structure? they just want to work in an air conditioned environment or is there some sort of prestige associated with being a saks employee.

I think a lot of it has to do with being naive. I definitely didn't understand how awful the pay structure would end up being until after I had started working. There's definitely a level of prestige as well, so that could play a part too.

it does help to have it on your resumé. i worked at bloomingdales and they are a lot like saks BUT I get so much interest because it is on my cv. so while i eventually left because of the stress, i am grateful for how many doors it has opened because i used to struggle to find jobs.

@@watermelon520b this is a great point too! I second this - I've gotten LOTS of interest because of Saks being on my resume. I went on to work at Louis Vuitton after this and I think my experience at Saks made all the difference in getting hired!

I know exactly what you are talking about ! I love fashion and when I started working in high end stores ( Bloomingdale’s, Henri Bendels, etc) as a newly certified make up artist, I quickly got disillusioned as it had nothing to do with making other people pretty and empowering women. To have such a high sales goal and to be judged only by your last week’s sale was emotionally traumatizing. Specially for someone highly sensitive like me. I am considering going back to retail and this is why I looked for this video , but hmmm… I might consider downgrading positions just so that I’d be around the environment but not as a sales person.

When you say you made minimum wage, do you mean the federal minimum of 7.50/hr? Cuz 👀👀

Good question! The minimum wage in NYC is $15/hr so that's what I was making

What was your dress code like?

LOTS of black! Had to look polished and professional, but also fashionable -- designer items preferred. No logos or anything too bold. Anything "casual" (sneakers, pants, etc) had to be from designers we sold throughout the building. When in doubt, just wear black lol

I worked for Saks many moons ago. It was at the data processing facility on 14th street that processed all sales, reports, etc. for all the stores. I had an hourly salary that was pretty decent for that time. I would never works in sales there.

It’s very unfortunate that the ppl selling these luxury brands make such piss poor pay. I’ve never heard of this draw method but this is definitely a bad method for motivating employees. & this entire video is why at 43 I work for myself. The first time I’d be in the hole I’d be quitting.
