the 2nd Gen Syclone project is coming along, and this time we build its engine to prepare it for a new life under the hood of my fastest, best handling, and lightest truck I've built. While I do like the idea of staying original to the syclone concept and doing a turbo V6, I just can't stand how they sound, plus I have an engine that's perfect for my needs.
some rare drivetrain parts to make the 2nd gen syclone AWD system work

You can get v6s to sound like v8s if you know what you're doing. 90% bolt on kits don't do that. A straight 6 you can't get to sound like a v8 or at least I haven't been able too.

I worked in a very large 24 bay shop. Each bay had its own pressure washer. Both hot and cold water. It was so nice being able to steam clean an engine bay before doing any major work. I was the guy that did all the big jobs. Engines, transmissions, clutches. Most of my work was extremely dirty so having a pressure washer on hand, ready to go at the flip of a lever was fantastic. I actually hated working at that shop. It's too bad because it was set up very nicely, money was good, management was the absolute worst i ever encountered working as a mechanic.

Thats crazy ! I remember when these trucks first came out. I was in Pennsylvania at the drag races and General Motors had their booth set up. They had both the Syclone and the GMC counterpart on display. It was the first I had heard of this truck. I should have bought one brand new when they were a reasonable price. I just couldn't pull the trigger on that deal. I couldn't justify the price, even than, because I could easily put a small block in an S10 at a fraction of the price. I've built 5 small block S10s. This is the one truck I kick myself for not buying. A good one is worth an absolute fortune now.

When I was doing bodywork full time I loved my Matco cordless tools. I had the 3 in variable speed polisher, 1/4 impact and a 1/4 ratchet batteries were all interchangeable with each other and they hold a great charge.
@ryurc3033
@ryurc3033 24 күн бұрын
So 3/8 impact wise, ive had a snap on for about 6 years, and it has been nothing but a pain. Replaced once under warranty, "rebuilt" once on my dime, only to get it back with the same problem (they blamed the battery even though it worked in every other tool except that one) and finally, after much back and forth they gave me another one that worked, and its been good for the last 3 years. But if i had it to do over, I'd probably do a Milwaukee, but only after watching the torque test channel to find out if the quality is still up to par.

Your so right about 400 flywheel hp being nothing to write home about but I've built many of those 5.3's for penny's compared to a SBC with all the goodies, many with injection and a half dozen with carbs they leave a SBC in the dust for penny's and will give a BBC a run for their money. Good catch on the pushrods and rocker wear, I always replace worn rocker body's like that and add a trunion kit and a set of lightweight pushrods, sometimes I add a set of LS6 springs. My current daily driver is a '68 C10 with a cammed 5.3 with long tubes and a 4L60 I converted from 4wd to 2wd and it doesn't have to apologise for anything on the street. My current project is a stock 2009 4.8 Swapped into a '88 S10 with a messaged T5 and a 3.42 posi. All it has is a TBSS manifold and a 90mm throttle body running a set of reclocked outlet LS6 exhaust manifolds with a homemade 2.25 into a 3" exhaust, yup, it looks like fun. We'll see how long the T5 lasts but if it's as much fun as I think it will be a cam and a TKO will be a no brainer.

As you know, any time you see a oil issue where something looks like it was starved of oil, you should replace the oil pump, the oil bypass, spring andy oil galley seal. And you could have pulled the heads and put better head gaskets and A. R p headbolts to help with the boost later and just leave the ring gap issue alone. But also for a truck like that, it would have been nice to find AL92R. A 6.0, aluminum block marketplace. You can get them each for about eight hundred dollars

@MrBenstero
@MrBenstero 24 күн бұрын
Depends on your goals for the truck. For street driving and drag race a turbo will be better. For lapping a supercharger will be easier to do as you don't have to deal with turbo lag out of a corner and you get the horsepower exactly when you hit the pedal. A centrifugal supercharger like a procharger would be close to a syclone while keeping the throttle response of an NA engine.

@LawrenceTolman
@LawrenceTolman 23 күн бұрын
No, spark timing and the tuning process has nothing to do with setting the cam timing. I degree the cam so I know/verify that it’s installed where it should be or where I want it to be. To me, it’s a step kinda like checking your oil after filling it. You just want to make sure it’s correct.

Fo your new engine have AFM or DFM in it. ?? I heard if you get a late model LS 5.3 or 6.2 you need to replace the cam and remove these systems to make them work bulletproof. Asking gor a friend.......

I guess if you are not going to boost that motor then whatever but you are there and a set of head gaskets and bolts if you are into that or if not just reuse them but I'd check the ring gap if you are going to do anything and you can inspect it an clean it up make sure the oil ring is not all gunked up
