Thanks Brian, I love the channel, I use chordify. It's like a jam track play along. For piano, uke, and guitar. Shows chord diagram or just the note if you already know chord. Free but can do more with paid version. Rock on!

Simple Drum Loops - Loopz (Free version) - but the free version only goes down to 55 bpm 4. Multitrack software - Bandlab (Free version) - 4 Track

I can warmly recommend Yamaha Chord Tracker. Import any mp3 song (non-DrM-protected), analyses it and presents the full chord sheet to print or play along in real time. Accurate, sophisticated chords, - magical! Like taking the paint of the walls in a room and putting it back in the paint bucket.

HUGE fan of ASD! +1 Tempo and Guitar Toolkit. Chord is another good one. I would also add Fretuoso for learning the fretboard and Ultimate Guitar for tabs and charts. One major one that you missed - your phone’s ability to take video. Listening to yourself is great but video also helps you to catch flaws in technique!

I have loved the spark amp. Great tones and sounds for practice. Well worth the investment. I have used Chordify on certain songs to speed up learning f curve. I am an experienced intermediate player and I often don’t need the app any more but sometimes it helps when trying out new material

Great channel Brian! Oolimo is also good for finding and analysing chords. Transcribe! is also excellent for slowing down, looping and changing the key of songs - it can be controlled with a foot pedal which is pretty handy, or footy as the case may be. The pedal buttons are fully customisable with the software so i have one button set to stop and go back to the beginning of the looped section, another to start playing and a third to increase speed by 10 %.

‘Transcribe’ is my alternative to Amazing Slow Downer. It’s also excellent. 👍🏻 I think the act of transcribing a song is a powerful learning tool (ear training, progression ideas etc) ... but I’m too lazy to do as much as I should 😂

Two guitar apps I use all the time are Guitar Gravitas (chord finder, scales, tuner, metronome) and Tonally (Circle of 5ths, Modes, Songwriting). Great video though, thx!

Id recommend "Smartchord" chord search, reverse chord search. and many other tools. I primarily like it because it will display the chord fingerings based upon your tuning, I find it extremely helpful because I normally play tuned to all fourths.

That app has everything! I don't use the tuner or metronome on it, but all of the other stuff seems to be very complete and well organised.

I put a "Pop-Socket" receiver on the side of my acoustic so I could attach my phone. It stays there when I play and I have access to all the resources of the internet, tuner, metronome, recorder app, tabs, lyrics, stylists, instructional vids, etc. It works GREAT.

I use iPhone timer for my finger stretching excersizes and voice memos is brill for sponateous compositions. Audio Stretch is perfect for slowing down a song but keeping the pitch or vica versa.

I'm sure you are aware of KZfaq players that allow slowing and looping ? Your channel is by far the best guitar channel for my brain here on the googletube BTW. The Dickey Betts video has opened a ton of doors for me! and finally at 45 I can see the triads on the GBE strings.... should have done that 20 years ago... but nobody told me LOL... and the 6's are all right there too.... you have blown my mind

Two apps I use frequently to jam with and helps me learn songs are Chordify and Ultimate Guitar. 🎸

Same here, I love Chordify, its the best £14.88 I have invested (£15 discount for the first year, it renews @ £29.88) I especially like the ability to apply the Capo

smartchord for android it has a chord builder and reverse chord finder. And tons of other great stuff. One of my favourites is the tuning selection it has tons of different tunings for guitars mandolin etc ....Worth a look and there is a free option or you can get the paid bundle which has everything in it. I'm not sponsored just a satisfied customer. I also use an app called Chordbot which I use for building jam tracks to play along to. You can play along with your own virtual band!

I would add Guitar Practice to this list (for iOS users). I single handedly designed, built, and published it to help myself learn guitar and thought it would help others. It randomly picks a common chord progression and then randomizes CAGED chord shapes along the entire neck. This allows you to easily jump into a practice session to work on those hand positions and guarantees that it will sound good. We all know it is way harder to practice random chords when they sound terrible together! Too often I just wanted to practice some chords and spent way too much time figuring out what to play instead of actually playing. Hope this app can help other beginner/intermediate students who can only squeeze in short practice jams. Happy practicing everyone!

I use Easy Transcribe. It takes KZfaq videos and they can be slowed and looped. A great tool for practice and learning.

Not an App but hardware.....the foot pedal Vidami allows me to start and stop ANY KZfaq video hands free. Also slow down the video 4x. Also loop a section you choose. Also reverse or forward segments in 5 sec increments.. Unbelievably great tool for my membership to Active Melody..

Onsong. You can do a lot with this. For instance you can take your sheet music from your lessons and import the backing track then practice the song with backing track. If the song is to fast well use the amazing slow downer and change tempo then reimport to play against the slower version. I use it Everytime I practice.

Another great thing about Onsong is if two or more members of the band have it, you can scroll to another song in a set and it'll update it on theirs simultaneously.

I used the timer app, but recently downloaded one called Multi-Timer. Free with ads, but I paid the $5. You can set up and store multiple timers. I have 1m, 5m, 15m, etc. depending on what I am doing. So, 1 touch to kick off timer, plus you can run stopwatch at same time. Great video, man.

ASD. Amazing Slow Downer. Best app Ive ever used. All sheet music. Stores my pdfs of songs to practice on the go. Once I learn the song, no need to reference it again but it is great for organizing by song name, band, playlist etc.

@@practicerepo they are 2 independent apps. If i use them together, I see the tabs on the All Sheet music app. Simultaneously I will play a lick or sequence with ASD until I don’t have to look at the pdf. Very portable. My hard copies of songs that I transcribed, copied or copied/ improved covers 3 volumes, each one over an inch thick. Hard to travel with or even find the song I am looking for.

I used to make hard copies, but I rather have something digital. SO. . .I convert the text/lyrics/chords into a png then turn that into a mp4 (lyrics/chords and embed the music) then just upload them to YT. So if I was to go to a friends place or a get-together - or even travel outside the country, I can just go to my channel and I can play everything from there. Come check it out if you want. I'm not a pro, but I do what I can. I fix them up as I go along and get better. I made a index in discussion section (a 100 songs at a time) this also works as a backup incase I have a hard drive crash, which happen to me before. . .everything on my channel is shared. @@practicerepo interesting method. I didn’t go this route for various reasons. I am overseas and some times I am where there is little to no internet. I like the idea that YT lets you slow down the playback without changing tone but I use ASD for looping licks or son sections til I get them memorized. Also when I did my Word collection, i also limited the editing to two pages, so if on hard copy, I could use a music stand and not have to flip pages. I converted each individual song to pdf so I have this as a backup if the app is discontinued. I see One Headlight is 3 sheets long on your file. Harder to see but it also depends on your screen size. I only use ipad mini. With All Music, I can touch once to flip pages. The last app I had could auto scroll. Any method is great as long as you can learn, share and enjoy. Play on!

I’ve been using SessionBand for a couple months now. Both their Blues and Jazz apps. While their Blues app. is kinda’ limited after a bit, just a simple 12-bar, you can’t beat it with a stick. Mock me if you like, but the Jazz app’s are great for blues progressions too. You get to use the diminished chords from that, into your progressions and before you know it, you got some great uptown 3:00am blues to play on. I haven’t regretted the money spent. All for the price of a cocktail, you can’t go wrong.

Coming from a keys and drums background a lot of this is new to me and this is very helpful. Keyboards often already have features along the lines of what these apps have I guess, constantly listening to playback of my practice has been invaluable so I can see how important it would be for guitar. I like Gap Click for drumming but I think it would be useful for anyone.

VLC is free and you can slow down and loop to get it right. If that doesn't do it I get the tab and almost always figure it out. I've learned things like a two step bend with vibrato at the end. The first note on the first solo on LaGrange. Just that took me about a month to get it right.

Right - tuning... I tend to use either the Boss tuner app or a thing called Panotune, which is good for checking my bends on the harmonica... and it looks good - very ‘steampunk’! My other totally indispensable tool is the Yamaha Chord tracker - which allows me to find the actual chords used in a piece of music I’m learning... and makes it easier to transcribe into my own songbook. I have issues with metronomes (I hate the tick) so I use a little app called Loopz which gives me various styles of drum loops to practice against - feels far more ‘alive’!

I have the gibson app in 10 weeks I am learning rifs,licks,bending strings,solos,chord changes and now picking, I'm learning music alphabet the whole fret board all positions were all the keys.and alot more in 10 weeks. I was on a different app for beginners. The gibson app really pushes my hard but I'm learning really fast.

Thank you Brian, I’ve been practicing so much on account of the shutdown(s) every new wrinkle and scrap of info is appreciated. I just purchased the ASD app and I was under the impression the Slowdowner integrated with KZfaq. I have YT premium and have been jamming along, studying lesson content and learning solos from non-stringed instruments and such (I’m a bassist). I haven’t seen a thing on the app referencing KZfaq save a folder from which to load YT material that has been downloaded. Not exactly integration, am I missing something? Was I mistaken about this functionality? Thank you in advance & BeSafe, E.

Hi Brian, its like ASD but Riff Studio on Andriod (not sure if its on IOS) is great for slowing down tracks, looping and swiping to rewind etc. Last time I looked it was free

Would one of these apps, or is there an app that would pick out the lead parts of a song and tab them? Like, if I wanted to learn the lead to Johnny B. Good opening riff. (I know I can find that particular riff on KZfaq but there are so many more songs that are not on KZfaq) Brian, I'm a member of Active Melody and I love it!!!

I use GuitarTuna app. I think it was like $12 for the upgrade which unlocks alternate tunings for 6 string as well as 12 string, bass, ukulele, banjo. Has ear training games and playing games that you have to use your guitar.

@@activemelody great video, because it opens the room for people to share their best apps. Jake Lizzio from Music Signals Studio on youtube has also made a video on this topic a while back and there was one app that I find absolutely great, it's called "fretastic" and is made for free by a friend of his. Its a simple yet effective visualization of scales and CAGED-boxes on the guitar neck. Since this was not included in your list I thought it might be worth a mention. Have a good one y'all!
