Not just an amazing artist but a true class act. Every interview and retrospective I've read from writers and collaborators and mentees gush about how generous and great he was to collaborate with. The artist who has brought me the most joy in comics. His art just makes me smile.

Replying to my own but just needed to list a small sample of my favorite covers, specials, and spreads in addition to the great ones listed by Omar: 1) special cover for Absolute CoIE. Probably my favorite cover ever; 2) Flash 15-17 for start of his friend loebs' run; 3) underrated FF run and in particular a giant sized poster he did "Accent"; 4) TNTT First Three Years poster, as always level of detail is mind blowing; 5) a huge collection of fan art he did at conventions and on request, just amazing stuff that he did for people and at such a high quality -- lots of Wally and Grayson and Titan fan service at the highest quality

I’m glad you’re doing this. George Perez is a legend. I put him up there with Jack Kirby as one of the all time great. Great man and kind to his fans. There are a lot of great comics he’s done but my personal favorite will always be his time on avengers with Busiek. That art still blows my mind. It just sucks he’s been given such a horrible condition. All I would want to say is thank you George. Your work really helped me during a rough patch in my life and growing up. I apologize if I sound sappy but it’s the truth. I wouldn’t have gotten into comics if it wasn’t for folks like George and their work.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of George's diagnosis, so this video is much appreciated. What non comics fans don't get is the fact that comics and their creators can touch a reader on a deep emotional level. Thanks for your story Omar. Did you know that the JLA/Avengers crossover was delayed in mid run due to George giving himself tendonitis from drawing a double page cover with every member who had ever been a member of each team, due to the level of detail he put into it. What a true artist

I’ve never read a story with art by Perez. I’ve only heard his name by you, you always speak so highly of him, and reading what everyone says about him, he just seems like a great guy. I’m getting choked up watching you talk about him it’s clear that he’s a hero to a lot of people. It’s now my mission to start reading the books he’s worked on. Such a shame about his diagnosis I lost my uncle to cancer, and friends to it too. It’s an awful thing, and I respect his choice of not seeking treatment, I feel as though I would make the same choice. My heart goes out to him his family and his friends, and all the fans.

I didn't hear the news about George Perez until watching a Very Gary auction, and it really is heartbreaking. He's the artist I grew up with on Avengers, FF, and New Teen Titans and it was incredible how he could draw so many characters on the page of these team books, but always with total clarity. By every account he is also one of the nicest human beings in the medium and has been for decades. He is a real titan in comics and gave so much to the medium, I just hope he knows how much he is loved by fans and fellow creators.

What I love most about Crisis on Infinite Earths is that it has the cosmic scope that defined every crossover thereafter, it's a new beginning, but it also paid homage to everything that came before. A lot of recent crossovers could gain to pay attention to the original. Now I know that Marv Wolfman was the writer but part of me is convinced that last aspect of homage, where nearly every DC character is featured in the crossover, even if in just 1 or 2 frames, is a reflection of Pérez fervent wish to draw as many DC characters as he could. I was going to suggest a reprint of the absolute Crisis on Infinite Earths, so he could sign copies of it in one of his last public appearances, but I've never read Avengers/JLA, it would perhaps be fitting for both Marvel and DC to reprint it while he's still alive, although I do think the timing is very tight. At least let's hope there are no more delays in the Absolute Wonder Woman by him, he wrote it so it would also be fitting to have that available as an option.

I'm still blown away by how much detail George could put into a monthly series at the height of his career, not only with his art but also co-plotting many of them. I love the way he bravely made the announcement with such grace and help give us fans time to prepare for the inevitable with such beautifully moving retrospectives of his career such as Omar's wonderful homage here.

THANK YOU! I was saddened to hear about Mr. Perez yesterday. Growing up he has always been my favorite creator. I was blessed to be able to meet him and get multiple issues signed, and even a couple blank cover sketches! I great creator, and even better human being. I do hope that he is able to have one more live even appearance as he stated, and I can only hope I will be in attendance. He is, in my opinion, maybe only second to the team of Lee and Kirby in comics royalty. Thanks again for creating this video honoring Mr. Perez.

Thank you Omar for sharing this very heartfelt video with all of us. It’s clear how much George means to you both as an artist and an inspiration to you as well as a human being. 🙂 Often times as we fans view the creators that we follow as rock stars or god-like beings whom are seemingly untouchable and they’ll be around forever. Unfortunately; past few years have been a stark reminder that these creators are only human and they can leave this world at any time. One could argue that all of whom were taken away way before their time. 😕😔🥺 My heart thoughts and prayers go out to George & his family & friends during this difficult time. 💭🙏📿

I’ve been reading comics now for well over 55 years. Was fortunate enough to grow up in a time where great artist seem to be a dime a dozen, and at the end of the day his art stood out amongst everybody else. He was truly my first favorite artist that I would absolutely pick up a book because his name was on it. He’s the only reason I ever picked up a wonder woman book, the only reason I stuck with it as long as I did. He’s an amazing talent, and more importantly than that he’s an incredibly kind human being I’ve seen him a few times at different cons, he was always incredibly nice each and every fan there. God bless you George Perez this is the season for miracles let’s pray for one.

Wonderful tribute to a comicbook legend thank you Omar. My list mirrors much of yours. JLA/Avengers Absolute is one of those "if my house was on fire, book to run out the door with". His Avengers with Busiek is my favorite Avengers run and one of the few series i triple dip formats on as i love it that much. Always have been a fan when younger (his amazing covers and interiors) but being so young i was too green to appreciate and follow artists, until i got older and bought Infinity Gauntlet 1 which blew me away and made me a fan of his ever since. Every time you mentioned a book I said "oh yeah, I love that one." In my opinion his wonder woman run is the definitive run (no run is better). He's shaped the modern pop culture for decades to come. He's told stories that bring awe in inspiration in equal measures. He has inspired those working in comics today. He will always be a part of us. Never met the man myself (wish I did), but I have no doubt his passion for comics far exceeds mine. He told stories of heroes that inspire. Does that not make him a hero in his own right.

The Heroes Return Avengers and JLA/Avengers books introduced me to Perez, but my favorite story of his has got to be CrossGen Chronicles #3. An extra-sized one-shot issue featuring Renaissance-style merchants sailing in airships and dodging the occasional sea-monster. Great stuff, very different from the standard superhero fare, and perfect for Perez's pack-the-panel style. To bad it hasn't seen print (Meridian Volume 2) in nearly 20 years...

Great selections. Me, I couldn`t pick a single Perez work because everything he drew was seemingly perfect. I`ve been a fan of his Creatures On The Loose # 33 way back in 1975. His work already had great page design & kinetic energy to it. His later work became more polished especially his grasp of anatomy & perspective. His faces always portrayed the proper emotion & he knew how to pace the books just right. When I got back into comics after a short hiatus from the mainstream in the early 80`s, his Teen Titans was one of the first books I latched onto. His Wonder Woman was incredible. JLA/ Avengers is a Marvel and his Brave & The Bold with Mark Waid is under-sung. He`s pretty much the perfect comicbook artist. A master storyteller with the technical skills that make anything he touches legendary. A damn good cover artist to boot. It`s cruel that a man who`s given us decades of joy & will continue to for new readers was struck with such a disease but who ever said life is fair.

My first exposure to the art of George Perez may have been The Avengers: Korvac Saga, an amazing story. I'm glad to own the OHC of Crisis, the 3 WW Omnibuses and the trade of JLA/Avengers and other amazing examples of the great man's work. You're right, the news sucks. But he eventually leaves us with an amazing body of work. ❤💔 Take care mate. Much love to you 👍👍

Back in the early 80's when he was at the Creation Events comic convention at the Disneyland Hotel. I think that was the first convention that I thought to take a backpack with a comic box inside so that I could take a few books for the artists to sign. For Perez, I took 20+ books with me and I don't remember if I gave all of them to him at one time but he signed them all and was more than happy to do it. Conventions, back then, weren't like they are now with lines so you could just walk right up to artists at times. But, what stuck with me after that show, was just how nice he was. Super friendly. All artists were pretty cool but he exuded positive vibes for sure. I completely forgot that he did X-Men KS Annual 3. I should have had him sign that one as that was one of my favorite books back then.

You know, this might be your first video in which you are "presenting" multiple books and I like them all, even those which I have never read, because of Perez' art!! :) Only about one year ago I have visited again a comic book shop here in London after a very long time. The good thing was, that I could look inside some books as well and I have looked into one of his Wonder Woman TPBs and that was when I have decided that I should give a chance, because at that time I have never read any Wonder Woman before! So I bought all 3 Omnibuses and I have read them super quickly at the beginning of this year! Wow.... super loved it and I could immediately feel a big step down after he stopped doing the art in Vols. 2 & 3. Just like nobody could do that Diana face as he did!! It's like Byrne's Superman face! Once you see it, you will always recognize it when you see it somewhere! Then thanks to this I have also decided to buy The New Teen Titans as well, fortunately he was working on this for much longer. Again, the same, I have never read Teen Titans before, but I loved it so much and was really sad that they have canceled Vol. 6, I cannot understand why, because for me the level of the stories and art was still very high in Vol. 5. His art is definitely one of my top favorite and I also bought his latest book from Marvel about his career!

I first encountered the work of George Perez in Avengers 141. It wasn't long before he was also drawing Fantastic Four and he was doing Man-Wolf as well. His name on a books credits meant an instant buy. Followed him to DC when he went there even though I wasn't really a DC fan. He was a huge part of my comics reading experience growing up. After years away from comics I sought out that Avengers Omnibus with Kurt Buseik on the after market paying way too much but I didn't care, it was George Perez and it was worth every penny. Shattered to hear of his diagnosis and it'll be a dark day when he leaves us.

An artist and Gentleman in a realm all his own, this is a wonderful tribute video, I always come back to his panel of Thanos snapping his fingers, in that panel George Peréz perfectly captured the unleashing of Godlike power with the simplest gesture, truly a master-class

Thank you for this. Mr. Perez is among my favorite comic artists, along with Jim Aparo, Jerry Ordway, and Dave Gibbons. My first Perez comic was New Teen Titans 16. At the same time he was illustrating the covers of JLA, which were amazing.

Thanks for this rundown of Mr Perez’s work. Off the bat, completely agree with your point on not needing to know identity and race of folks-man their stories made these guys monoliths to me. The work they did made these characters who they were and made me care about them. Sorry, droned on a bit.
