Today I show you my favorite pedals by Ibanez. Though known primarily for the Tubescreamer, there is a deep well of amazing effects that these guys have made over their long history, and these are the ones that really get me pumped. In the comments tell me what your favorite Ibanez pedal is and what you think about John Coltrane's Blue Train album.

That is 100% no shit. I had one when they were new. Tone Report did a review of them in a used gear spotlight & the price for them went up 50% almost immediately. I've been meaning to pick one up for about a year now (price was reasonable). Had them on my watch list but the money has always gone to other stuff. Just looked. Josh inflation has struck again as it did for BBE & Behringer.

I own a DE-7 for years without even have tried to use it. It was a "leaving job" gift and I was not aware of what good things could come out of this. After years non-playing guitar, I discovered it in it's box and plugged it in. Tried to use it in an "old school" way, I mean in front of all other pedals as 70's guitarists used it in front of their overdrived amp, and mainly turns pots never over 1 or 2. This was a revelation. Now it Never leave my pedal board. Switching between Echo/Delay is really enjoyable to. +1 MrOrange.

Hi. My first ever guitar pedal was the Ibanez AD-80 Analog Delay bought for over £100 in 1981. It was my 16th birthday and my mum asked me what I wanted. I was into Dub...King Tubby etc so I said an echo pedal. We went to the local music shop on Holloway Road in Islington, London and she bought me the AD-80. I still have it and love it for so many reasons, one of them being my mum is no longer alive but every time I look at the pedal I'm reminded of her. Another reason is that when it goes into self-oscillation it can take your ears off...in a good way. Thanks, Bill

Bitches' Brew is the first jazz record I ever got into, and still one of the only ones. There's not enough creepy jazz out there and that album had a sinister vibe all the way through that I dug. The guys from the band Congos used to have a dark jazz combo that played around the Phoenix area in the early 2000s and I loved that stuff, I just wish there were more people exploring dark / ambient / atmospheric jazz.

My favourite Ibanez pedal is the DDL, a very warm and rich sounding digital delay pedal that came out in 1985. It was part of the "Master Series", in between the 9 and 10 series. It's been with me ever since and it needs not shy away from comparison with ANY other delay pedal!!! "Blue Train" is a masterpiece, and I am glad that you recommended this Jazz album! Just too many people (guitarists) have an aversion to Jazz because they never had the chance to listen to some REAALY good Jazz records. Btw there are as many different Jazz genres as there are in Rock...just my 2 cents.

The RC99 Rotary Chorus is an underappreciated gem. I don't know why more chorus pedals don't give you a delay time knob. That knob alone gets you in the ballpark of so many classic chorus sounds. Plus you get a wet blend knob, and inverted-phase stereo output. It's so good.

Honorable mention for the WD7 Weeping Demon wah. Best wah on the market today. It’s a noiseless optical wah that has a great EQ section with adjustable lows, highs, and Q all with tone lock knobs. It also has the option to bypass the on/off switch and instead you are able to turn the effect on by simply moving the pedal. As soon as you lift your foot off of the pedal it turns off. You can even adjust the latency between when you lift your foot and when the effect turns off...or just use the traditional on/off switch and you’re able to get your cocked wah tones. Super versatile and great sounding wah.

How about the Ibanez Soundtank DL-5 Delay? Brad Whitford had one in his rig for years because he couldn’t find a delay that was as warm and natural. They’re super cheap to buy because the foot switch breaks so easily and easy to retrofit with a more durable switch. The Ibanez Soundtanks are an overlooked bargain that require some TLC but can be easily modded to sound great.

Great concept on paper and absolute killer looks. But I always found the low end of the sweep range massively weak and disappointing. And unlike analog wahs, there is no easy way to shift the range. Also, unlike all my other toneloks, the WD7 does seem to suck out tone even when it's off.

No love for Ibanez's 'Weeping Demon Wah' ?! It's a pretty great piece of kit and it's so solidly built it might be nearly indestructible! Tbh, the only drawback is it's so bulky and heavy I can't use it on my gigging rig!

Nice to see your choice of tube screamer: the TS7 really stands out! BTW, the 7 series is my favorite collection of pedals, period. The Fuzz FZ7 was my first pedal and it is a cute little machine of mayhem. It never goes out of my bass board.

Blue Train is the first jazz record I got into as well. I had a job as a line cook in a vegetarian restaurant and one of the other cooks used to play it all the time (Miles Davis' Kind of Blue as well). I think these are excellent entry points into jazz for a lot of people because these styles (hard bop, modal) are definitely more accessible and less intensely challenging to the unfamilar listener than straight on BeBop that a lot of people think of when they think of jazz (and often find too offputting). The melodies are simpler in general and there's more emphasis on song structure than soloing over lightning fast chord changes. But that's not to say it's unsophisticated or easy listening. It's challenging nature is just more subtle I guess. I'm not a serious jazz aficionado really but a few other albums I love: Thelonious Monk - Alone in San Francisco (the version of "Blue Monk" from this is familiar to a lot of people) Charles Mingus - Ah Um ( contains "Goodby Pork Pie Hat", probably Mingus' most well known and oft-recorded composition) Ornette Coleman - Shape of Jazz to Come (cornerstone of avante garde, not to everyone's taste, but "Lonely Woman" and "Peace" really very accesible tracks) Duke Ellington - Money Jungle (Ellington was still innovating as this surprising, sensational record shows) John Coltrane - The Gentle side of Coltrane (Another early jazz discovery for me, a collection of his most sensitive and moving ballads)

Great video Josh, here in the comments to drop some jazz albums that might be useful and or interesting to the non jazz listener. Dizzy Gillespie - After Hours Thelonious Monk - Misterioso Cannonball Adderley - Mercy Mercy Mercy Wes Montgomery - Boss Guitar Miles Davis - Relaxin' Brecker Brothers - Heavy Metal Bebop Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life Wynton Marsalis - Black Codes Wayne Shorter - Atlantis Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music Brad Mehldau - Largo Horace Silver - Song For My Father Warning! Listening to jazz may include symptoms of: Unbridled scatting, excessive use of the word cat, onset of a goatee and beret, minimalist pedalboards, mild schizophrenia, an aversion to 1 & 3, P S Y C H I C A B I L I T I E S, loss of friends. Call your doctor today if you think jazz is right for you! Stop using jazz if you experience chronic tinnitus in both eyes and or salivating of the mouth when tritones are sounded.

I have an Ibanez stereo volume pedal on one of my pedalboards. I also have a 10 series Digital Delay ii that gets occasional love. I had several Ibanez pedals over the years, mostly 10 series. I had a compressor that was basically a Ross but Ibanez branded. It had the 8 series enclosure but instead of the square switch we are used to seeing it had the typical switch found in all pedals up to when Boss came out with their relay based soft touch switches.

That orange Overdrive is brutal. My first four pedals ever were 9-series that I bought new. The SD-9 Sonic Distortion, FL-9 Flanger, and AD-9 Analog Delay. And a CP-9 compressor. I didn't "get" that one, and traded it for a tube amp, but the other three were responsible for every sound I got between 1983 and 1995. The SD-9 is still far and away my favorite.

My Mostortion is the foundation of my pedalboard. It can make strong distortion when required, it buffers the chain, it moderates the roar of the Beano Boost placed before it, it works as a clean boost! (with Level up and Distortion down) and it can replicate my Marshall 30th Anniversary's crunch channel almost exactly through its clean channel. I endorse 100% its ability to simulate a tube amp. In fact a Mostortion is all you need if some cruel person forces you to go directly into a PA.
