Random Gentleman I was always just like "why are the other YoRHa units so useless?" *sees the ending So they were meant to be useless in battle so they could all die, which still makes me question why the same doesn't apply to 2B, 9S and A2

They were not all meant to be useless. Just 2B was actually designated 2E and was far stronger and more advanced than every other unit for the purpose of eliminating them when the time came. Hell she has killed 9S countless times and wiped his memory so that he couldn't find out the truth about YoRHa, since the 9S is the highest-model there is and the natural curiosity implemented into his systems made him extremely intelligent and liable to finding all this stuff out. This is why the commander is so open about everything to him when he asks about it after hacking the main server and discovering all of this; she assumed that 2B would simply kill him again once he returned to the surface. As for A2, she was designed as 2B's prototype and was intended to be disposed of and destroyed once the 2B model was perfected. Instead she found out the truth about YoRHa and deserted.

It's jarring as well because in some side-quests the quest-giver will actually die or get themselves killed after finding out loved ones have died. And here Operator 60 is making a big deal about a rejection: "how can I go on living!?"

Didn't she literally say she wanted to start a family with / wanted 9S to be her son. I'm pretty sure they had this dialogue in the 210 boss fight

@@Laerei Nah, he was already mostly infected by the logic virus and hanging on by sheer force of will past the point that most androids would be pretty much unable to move. Of course, had he been generally more healthy (mentally and physically) at the time, there might not have been a fight to begin with so idk. Ironically, 2A was probably the most stable (comparatively speaking) that she had been in quite some time during that fight, yet still manages to (most likely) fail to save 9S and commit accidental genocide despite winning the actual fight. It's almost like violence tends to make things worse instead of saving people.

Idk if you've played the game/care about spoilers (if you do, stop reading) but it's the mission where 9S infiltrates a few machine "headquarters" let's say, and at the end of the God Box headquarters, he has to fight 21O that's been infected by the virus. But she's not entirely lost, and she mentions how lonely she was, how all she wanted to do was start a family, etc. Really sad.

Well... He is a hacking master, and he fought alongside 2b. He is not good as 2B or A2, but he have some battle experience.

Yes, this is the most likely explanation, especially since models are capable of being mass produced, as seen by the 2E models. Immediately after completing 9S's mission in the third play through, you can return to the Bunker where "Operator 21O" left a reward for 9S in her room. When you visit the terminal, however, she is still shown to be in the Bunker. But, this can easily be explained away through another identical O-model. That said, the rest of the battle-type YoRHa units were already engaged with the enemy by the conclusion of 9S's mission. The only other possibility is that 21O engaged the enemy after 9S finished his mission (essentially, she joined the battle late) and that Operator 21O's personality was changed as a result of her transformation into a B model. However, this explanation is significantly less likely, due to the inefficiency of not having the extra soldier on the battlefield.

@@cacappjfgjhrbjhfhfh there's a reason Yorha assigns B models to watch over them, as essentially the S models were a double edged sword, they could help the mission but at the same time there's a chance they would turn traitor if they found out the truth...whichever way it was the S models were highly dangerous if provoked to the limit. It's the reason why S models have little boy physique...if they had actual adult bodies it'll be like facing a slightly nerfed Adam and Eve, except this time they won't stop analyzing and gathering combat data on you and you have the added hell of constantly being hacked by them mid-fight.

While it was never explicitly explained, if you did her sidequests, you'd understand a bit better as to why she's acting like this in this segment (and also if you've already beaten the game, as there are major spoilers involved as well) Her sidequests mainly consists of 21O having a fascination for human families so she researches them, and her having the idea of starting one in the future once the war is over In doing so, she looks on the android she interacts with the most, 9S, who is also usually seen as a very young android due to his almost childish eagerness and optimism, and starts treating him like her son Of course, she is still 21O, so her attempts come off as very... odd There's also another possible reason why she's so... excessive in "babying" him in this scene _MAJOR SPOILERS!!!_ It's suspected that by this point in the game, this was the last bit of operating 21O can do for 9S, which is the reason for her "babying" him This is because she's already decided to allow herself to be rebuilt/reprogrammed into a combat unit, presumably to take a more active role in protecting 9S who she's decided to view as a son Unfortunately, this backfired horribly, as she, like most other androids, was infected by the Logic Virus, and was manipulated into protecting one of the recovery units in some of the last chapters of the game, forced to fight and attempt to kill 9S, or have 9S kill her, destroying his psyche even further It was during this fight that she explained her desire for a family, though take that with a grain of salt as I never personally heard all this because I usually one-shot her before she ever gets the chance to be a threat I kinda lost my point, but essentially, the reason why she babies him in this scene is because she probably knows she's about to die, an operating unit suddenly rebuilt into a combat unit, where the threat of death is very real, taking into account that she's very inexperienced in combat, this scene would probably also count as her last goodbye to 9S
